  • The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has used Global SuperTanker Service's Boeing 747-400 for the first time to fight a fire. The SuperTanker is a former Japan Airlines aircraft that's been converted into a retardant-dropping air tanker. Adrienne Moore of CBS station KOVR-TV reports.

    • @Sugarsail1
      @Sugarsail1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      it's totally ineffective...when the wind is blowing 50 + mph they can't fly and you can't stop the fire anyway..it's all a show for politicians to the dumbed down citizenry to make them feel they're being saved. If they built homes out of steel instead of plywood, we'd have no need for Calfire at all. Also the insurance companies benefit from homes burning down because they calculate that risk into their premiums, but when a fire occurs they always declare a state of emergency which liberates state and local funds to cover damages not covered by insurance. Thus the insurance companies can use massive fires to justify high premiums while avoiding paying out settlements knowing the government will pick up the slack.

    So much BS and red tape around this aircraft if they had 10 of these in service flying 10 hours a day these fires would be put out fast.

    • @Sugarsail1
      @Sugarsail1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      nope, the fires would still destroy the place, no amount of aircraft can stop fire when the wind is blowing 60 mph. It's futile. The answer is not suppression or prevention, it's acceptance and preparation. Try building steel frame homes instead of ones out of plywood...that's a start.

      The Il-76 firefighter is a regular Il-76 transport with two large tubes in the cargo hold. It carries 13.000 gallons of water/retardant. Installing the systems takes an hour and a half. And when it's not needed to fight fires it can go back to normal transport duties "on a daily basis". Talking about cost efficiency.
      The one used in Chile (nicknamed there Luchin) is property of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Not a private corporation looking for profit.

      Sometimes, when you fight a 30 round AR with a 1000 round LMG, there is a likely chance he 1000 round LMG will win, which means, it can fire 100 rounds without reloading. Whereas the AR can only fire 30, and has to reload every 30 round burst.

    Not all forest fires are bad that’s why they probably didn’t want it extinguished. Fire is a natural part of the life cycle of the forest and it’s trees. It’s only bad when it gets close to developed areas and structures.

    Dear California Bashers, the FEDERAL Forestry Service has to approve of the use of these planes to fight fires, so don’t blame California if they aren’t used.
    They seem like a great idea to me, but I’m not a professional in this area. Here’s one potential problem: 747’s aren’t very maneuverable - especially when flying through smoke close to the ground in hilly areas with crazy air currents. A crash in a populated area would be really, really bad.

    For all of the amount of kids that you don't know any airplane or firefighter and how to measurement of a water tanks and how many you need to be wasting how much had to be with you again and had to be with you again and again and again if you want to listen to it very carefully then be like a come up with your own ideas and do not cheat of anyone else because if you cheat that means you're liar so if you want to design of a different aircraft tank it is your choice like I said so many put a type of aircraft is a prototype to come out because I have to be safety safety safety safety prototype come out testing second safety third and then the fourth one will be approved this new aircraft that's it you don't have to cheat you know you just have to understand
