Remarkable behind the scenes reporting. This is the type of video and audio you wish the major media guys would air - but they never do. Thank you so much.
Juan...this is very good information. I thank you for taking the time to explain and show. I am a 911 dispatcher for fire/ems in tucson arizona . some of my crews are working on the camp fire at this time. I would ask you to thank all those you showed in this video for their service at helping to keep my crews and all the other ground crews safe with their hard work. If not for those crews, my firefighters would never get some of these recent fires under control. They are a wildland firefighters angels.
Exclusive Access ! Great video Juan . Amazing to see such large planes making tightly maneuvered air drops . The pilots make it look alot easier than it is for sure.
That DC-10 nose landing gear was a pleasure to build and over haul for these guys. I now feel proud to be in the aviation field knowing Everytime this aircraft takes flight it's doing good. And my hands contributed to the success of this team.
Another great report, Juan. You are the most valuable resource for the Camp Fire. Nobody has the access that you can get. This report should be a National TV.
Thank you, sir! I just went from complete ignorance to reasonably well informed about how these large tankers work, something that has always impressed me but I really knew nothing about. 18 minutes of impeccably researched and well written (and presented) documentary journalism will do that for you! Consider me subscribed.
I am a Canadian [ Alberta ] caught Juans great reporting right at the start of the Oroville dam failures and have not gone a day without thinking about what he will report on next You Sir are a amazing person !! I truly wish there wasn't so much bad stuff to report though and I would be entertained by his airplane adventures ,His motorcycle trips ,History and of course his wonderful family . Good on you Juan Your work is history in the making .
Fascinating stuff Juan - props to these guys and wow, turn-around time is impressive. Some superb stills... and your footage too is great. My heart goes out to all the victims and the amazing firefighters. Excellent reporting again Juan, thank you.
Thanks for this Juan, The average guy like myself would know little of the hows, whys of such an incredible operation without your knowledgeable reports. Everyone to a man is doing a superb job, the aircraft crew , dozer guys etc, all of them. Thoughts of course for the too many lives lost; how many more would there have been without these professionals.
Awesome, Juan! God bless all those who are fighting those fires...and all those who are having to live and deal with all of this. Good luck to you all! Keep up the best reporting in the nation, please!
Thank you Juan for a detailed explanation on how mixing is done, learned something new and kudos go to the pilots, ground crews in saving lives and minimizing property damage, graceful birds are still impressive thank you for sharing and the good Lord keep the crew safe
Thank you Juan (captain) Brown for the insightful reporting on the way the ground crew works to keep these behemoths purring & back in the air to fight fire ASAP! At the time of the Rim fire I lived about 3 nautical miles from its western flank. I have pics of tanker 914 dropping retardant.
Awesome report Juan! Love the behind the scenes look at how these operations take place. Have been following all your reports on the Camp Fire closely. We are keeping all those who have been affected by these tragic fires in CA in our thoughts and prayers. Please keep yourself and family safe!
Why is this channel not bigger? Juan does a fantastic job on any subject he covers. Facts and facts and facts. Many thanks to you Juan. Stay safe out there !
Years ago when I first heard they were using 747's and DC-10's for air tankers I thought "That's insane, flying big planes that low," but it's incredible how skilled those pilots are. I was watching them from my roof fight the Nunn's fire last year. Amazing.
Thanks Juan. Super cool vid. Air tanker pilot has always been on my list of "that would be cool" jobs. Lots of hard work in a compressed time. It takes a lot of skill to fly a DC-10 or 747 down to 150 feet AGL. Especially so over hilly or worse terrain. My palms sweat just thinking about doing that.
Awesome Juan, appreciate the tour. Godspeed to the fire fighter effort and prayers to all those families that have lost everything, even their very lives. Tragic.
At the same time this was happening, another fleet of air tankers was dropping above our house during the Woolsey Fire. We saw 2 DC-10 aircraft, flying out of San Bernadino, a DC-8 and at least four BAE four-engine jets flying out of Lancaster. The turnaround time was incredible, and they were very effective in stopping the spread of the fire. I was really impressed with the piloting as well, dropping so low. There was a pilot aircraft, a small prop plane, that led them to the drop zone and painted it with a smoke drop to let the tanker pilots know where to dump. They must have done 100+ sorties right in front of us. I'm so grateful we have this resource here in California.
Excellent coverage Juan 👍 I notice those young men working with the dry fire retardant none were wearing a mask hopefully that stuff won’t be too bad for their health or lungs. The last picture of the fireman standing on top of the ridge watching the fires burn in the distance illustrates the immensity and hopelessness of the situation. Thank you for your great work From Texas
Excellent video Juan. Glad you were able to get a close up of the reloading. Lets hope they can get this monster under control very soon. Thanks for sharing. regards from the UK
Seeing it from a distance looks easy and fun, but of course the hard working men and women behind the scene, and the pilots too, deserve a round of applause. Keep up the fantastic work saving our communities, forests and infrastructure.
Wow--seems like just last week you had 2K subs & I was enjoying the soapbox derby videos. Great job as usual, and thanks! Hope your home continues to be ok.
For "real" news this is the go-to channel. The stuff on TV is just entertainment and commercials. Not very satisflying or factual. Keep it up Juan. Much respect for what you are doing.
Thank you so much I did enjoy that, can`t get enough of that jumbo. hope the pair of them can get enough down to spare Oroville and the dam, understand that conditions would not allow them to attack the blaze before it hit Paradise, Hope after everything is under control that all stakeholders can get together and figure out a way to deal with these fires in the future.A good start would be to have a look at the cause factors and mitigation measures involving native Americans and others, that you so beautifully articulated in a previous video. stay safe and god speed to all involved in this effort.

A great, informative no BS video! Thankyou for showing me something I had no idea about previously, the low tech, no CGI, no crap presentation is really appreciated, the thoughts of Australia are with you at this time, we know all about fires as well.
I ran tanker bases all over B.C., and Alberta. From building tanker bases from scratch, to Mixing powder, and full resource management. Hard, hard, but fun job. Thanks for all your efforts, ladies and gentlemen. Please be safe.
When these guys are flying 16 they make their turn out to the east and pass almost directly over my house. I had wondered about their capabilities. Thanks very much!
I have spent my whole life working with my hands and you can feel Juan's respect for the people who do the grunt work!
Dunno why this popped up now on my YT home page, but I don't regret it ! Great work !
This has to be the best reporting on these giant jet tankers that I have seen anywhere. Great job Juan this is a fascinating view of the operations.

Excellent example of high quality independent media coverage. Great coverage, fascinating, and pertinent. Thanks Juan.
Wow! Impressive video! What a great reporter, pilot, father and husband. God has blessed you!
Juan, superb job as usual. You are the best technical reporter on TH-cam. Please don’t ever stop!
Great behind the scenes footage, combined with first-hand knowledge.
Juan, that was one awsome report on the California fire. Thanks

Thanks for the great instructional video!
tubehound8 I noticed the lack of respirators and hearing protection on some of those workers also...

Awesome Juan ,love seeing those big 747's taking off.
If the Captain of a Triple 7 is impressed, I am too! Great report Juan!
I thought JB _is_ a 777 pilot...?
He is. Or at least he was!. Maybe all he's flying now is the little Champ.
If it’s the same Juan Browne, he landed a 757 at LAX with one engine with 154 souls on board. I believe it was American Airlines back in 2012 or so.
EXACTLY the story /report I was lokking for ...HUGE thanks ....Australia
