For those complaining about audio, which I very much understand; this was produced in 2002 and they most likely don't have the ability to adjust the narrators volume. But they learned from this and in all following seasons the problem is solved.
Why! If the air speed indicator on the Captain's side wasn't working right at take off, why did he rely on it and ignore the Co-Pilot's air speed indicator? Turn off autopilot and fly according to the working air speed indicator.
100% captains fault. Why would you not trust the first officers gauge when it has been working from the start. The stick shaker is a 100% guarantee you are in a stall and must take those actions more serious than any other.
There's a couple of things that've always mystified me about this one. 1: They took off using the FO's airspeed and had no problems, which _should've_ been an indication not that "both are wrong," but that the _captain's_ was wrong. And 2: why didn't they call for a ground speed reading to check and verify before flipping breakers? Sure, ground speed isn't going to be a 100% match, but it'll tell you which of the indicators is correct, shouldn't it? And they should've been close enough for ground radar (primary, since secondary runs off the transponder which, iirc, usually runs off the captain's indicators) to have been useful just after takeoff, so... why wasn't this an option to consider?
The audio is atrocious. Good thing I know Spanish because the voice over was impossible to make out. Great episode though. We have a lot of mud daubers here in Florida so every time I see one now, I'll remember how they had a hand in changing aviation history.
Tragic crash : Great show , Possible for newer episodes not yet uploaded on here possibly like episode ( Independent Air Flight 1851 or like Japan Air Lines Flight 123 Content collapsed ) ??
if there is aproblem with the cockpit indicators prior to take off shouldn't they abort the take-off and have the mechanics check out and repair the problem for safety sake?

Perhaps one of the other free services that allow you media on demand will do a better job curating videos with a higher production value - one more in line with your obviously reasonable expectations. *GROW UP*
Utter incompetence. Power plus pitch equals performance. All they had to do was put wings level, level attitude, plus set cruise power. You then wait 30 seconds for the plane to settle and then check which airspeed indicator is showing a reasonable value. It's really basic stuff and they failed to get that right.
What’s going on? I’ve been clicking through videos and suddenly I can’t find a video where the background sound doesn’t entirely drown out the narrator entirely?! It makes all the episodes unwatchable. Is that the point? To punish us for watching on TH-cam?
The Captain was clearly a fool And maybe the industry should consider whether they shouldn't say Chek already at 60 knots, so they could stop without problems
No manned submersible can go as low as this unmanned one that visited this 7,200' depth? Those that have visited the 35, 800+ foot depth of challenger deep would disagree.
I'm not a pilot, but, as I understand it, V1 is always the point of commitment to takeoff unless something extremely serious happens that absolutely prevents the possibility of flight, such as loss of power in both engines. If I am understanding correctly, in this event, the pilot recognized that his airspeed indicator was not functioning prior to V1, when he also learned that the first officer's airspeed indicator seemed to be properly functioning. If I am correct, he committed to takeoff prior to V1. When V1 was achieved, nothing had changed, so he continued his takeoff, even though that thought sends chills up and down my spine.
@@melissalsmith883 V1 is the speed where if a pilot were to abort the takeoff they would not have enough runway left to stop the plane. After v1 is v2 at which the speed is fast enough the plane can take off even if it had an engine failure, that’s when they rotate for takeoff.
Come on, after few episodes you learn that v1 is the speed that implies take off, because there is not enough runway to abort. V2 as well is the speed that guarantees the climb even in case of one engine failure. Aviation is secure because it is a long sequence of procedures, not improvisation like driving a car. In fact AI is perfectly suited to get control ASAP
How could they definitively prove that it was the pitot tube if they never even recovered it from the ocean? That's a poor conclusion if I ever heard one.
I know the volume was low, but it said they were on autopilot, and autopilot uses his airspeed gauge exclusively, so they know the problem was with that one.
In order to stop all of the complaints, is for Mayday to STOP with the click bait the old episodes from old seasons, and start posting NEW episodes from NEW seasons. I understand that not everybody hasn't seen these old episodes from old seasons. That's not why people are complaining. What they're complaining about is that when you click on a thumbnail, and you see words that'll make you think "this is a brand new episode". But when you click it, it's the same episode you seen before. And you feel disappointed. For you, it's a delight. But remember, this same episode and ones like this are also in the playlist if you want to see it again. But believe me, there are newer episodes they don't post on TH-cam. For me, I would like to know about Southern Airways Flight 932, not 242. I want to know what happened to Eastern Airways flight 981( the one that incredibly handsome Greg Feith worked on). That show is STILL on the air. They're not fooling nobody.
About the sound issue: Who is editing this video? Nobody? Maybe you hired a new editor and they're not really skilled? Doesn't someone higher up vet the finished product for problems? Anyway, somebody is failing at doing their job.Had to use captions all the way through and your recent vids had the same problems. Its annoying enough that i might unsubscribe.
Mayday your sound is more background, i can barely hear the narrator on a few of your shows lately. Please fix!
I've noticed the same thing but also on other channels. Is this a TH-cam problem?

Why is the narrator's voice pushed back so far and music has taken over? 😊
Dialogue's volume is too low

Great questions
These pilots should have never been in a cockpit
46:07: that’s the same sound as my alarm clock. I fell asleep listening to this and then was abruptly woken up near the end of the video.
😂😅

I dont...so it was very hard for me
The audio in this episode is all jacked up
Audio levels are a real issue for you guys making these videos, huh?
Abort is my first reaction to the gauge malfunction while still on ground. The captain is 100% at fault here.
Exactly I was thinking. Solving problems is easier on the ground than in the air...
At 37:00 the autopilot taps out and says “I’m done, you’ll got this, I am heading home.”
They shouldve rejected takeoff or TOGA for emergency. An inaccurate speedometer is not something to ignore
Tragic. Prayers for all.
Spanish comments are louder than the voiceover translations. Cockpit noises override your narration. The sound quality on this one is really bad.
Audio issues are so bad that 16 minutes in, I am not continuing.
Weren't these made for tv originally? How is the audio quality so bad?
Why the Captain keep looking at His SI, when since the beginning He knew His was defected?
At the first sign of trouble, pilots should cancel autopilot and fly the plane. And have analog instruments as backup. Things a computer can't affect.
Agreed

Someone mixed the audio incorrectly.

The sound levels of narrator, background music and other aspects are all out of balance.
