      I been told that you should always switch your auto stop start off, as why it may save you fuel, it can lead to engine damage is that true with my Mercedes?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Martin, no that is not true.
      Engines that have start/stop technology have been designed with that in mind.
      Turning your engine on and off on a car that doesn’t have start/stop technology will of course do this but cars that have start/stop technology have starter motors and components that last 3-4 times longer to compensate for the extra starting.
      There have been many reports showing that if you are stationary for longer than 7 seconds, then it is worth using Start/Stop. You’ll actually gain miles per tankful and reduce your emissions in the process too!

    Hi Nick. Great and helpful tutorial like always.
    I have a few suggestion, what you might consider: remote window close and open. Somehow, I'm not been able to work it out how does it work....but apparently is should. Also you can demonstrate the auto windows and pan roof closing when detects a rain (sprinkle a little water on the windscreen). And one more tip: unfortunately I was able to lock my car with an app and left the keys inside. This is not the best feature as when I opened it with the app and I didn't opened the door within 20sec the car locked itself back but the app was showing open (keys inside). But luckily refreshing the app solved the issue and was able to unlock it with the app and get my keys out.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mr Westcliffe, thank you!
      If you’ve got Remote Window open and close it should work however if it doesn’t I’d probably suggest getting in touch Mercedes me support who might be able to help remotely.
      With rain and the roof I’ve covered that one here on tip no 3: th-cam.com/video/0znuEg-V8Do/w-d-xo.html
      Unlocking and locking always take a few seconds or so and might not work immediately afterward, you might have to wait up to 30 secs before sending it again

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey apostolos, if i recall compact cars don’t need adjustment due to the type of headlight used in them.
      You can be 100% sure to be on the safe side and double check with Mercedes (they can check on the chassis number or Reg) but I’m fairly certain they don’t need adjustment.

      @@npoleary Hey Nick thank you for getting back to me. I thought this will be the case but I do get lots of complaints from oncoming traffic especially from truck drivers. It looks like that the multibeam LED doesn't really detect the other drivers as it supposed to do. My registration number is SV70 KHE in case you are able to check that for me. Is that reprogrammable or am i doomed?! 😊

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Apostolos, it depends on the situation on the road, Multibeam LED is just an assistance system and obviously can’t detect every situation on the road. One limitation is that it can’t take into account the terrain differences in height, so if you’re going travelling up/down a hill this could dazzle other road users.
      If you don’t think something’s right though just ask your local Mercedes to check it out. 🤓

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thank you!
      Keys in Mercedes are just a main and a spare, this no way to program them to profiles, it’s not something Mercedes do.
      In Mercedes when you get in the car, you select your profile on the screen. Having it this way allows up to 7 users instead of 2 as you’ll be limited to the number of keys.

      Try this, with the engine running, turn the lights knob to position P.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey RafaelCY, sadly no way to turn them off permanently but there is a work around…but you must remember to put your lights back afterward!
      Basically when the engine is on and the lights are set to AUTO, turn it all the way to the left and select one of the P modes as George said above.
      When the engine is on, it’ll switch off all exterior lights. When the engine is off, it’ll utilise the park lights.

      Hey Korjiro, really sorry I wouldn’t know for sure, it depends what lighting system you have on the car and where’s abouts you’re based in the world. Sorry I can’t tell where anyone is from on here.
      If you’re based in the UK and you do not have adaptive full beam at nighttime (also known as MULTIBEAM LED), you won’t need to adjust the lights as they meet the requirements.
      Double check with your local Mercedes though as they can l check your spec sheet 🤓

      If you check with Mercedes they can let you know for sure (they can check your spec on your car and let you know)
      However I’m pretty sure you don’t need to do anything on Mercedes compact cars. The legal requirements should be met when driving on the other side of the road.

    Thanks, Nick. Love your videos. Is it possible to install LED headlights (or turn signal, etc.) into a non-LED 2019 GLA250?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you! I would have thought it is possible…but before you go down that route, it’s very complicated and can be very expensive.
      You’ll have to do your own research though, (sadly dealers won’t do it as they only sell or fix cars per their original spec).
      To cut a long story short, I used to own a Vauxhall and that had halogen lights, but to install LED’s officially, they require new headlight housings which was very expensive. You can’t just put LED bulbs in as they scatter light in the wrong way and it’ll fail an MOT due to dazzling other drivers. Annoyingly further still, upgrading lights isn’t easily supported but the government and the MOT tests so the only way to do it is replacing the entire housing.
      Replacing headlight housings and possibly wiring for LED’s would costs thousands. But if you do go down that route you’ll have to chat to garages that specialise in that sort of thing.
      Sadly I’ve never done it so can’t recommend any, sorry!

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Terry it’s not just temperature that affects range it’s where you drive.
      To achieve that that range, you’d need to be constantly driving at speed with very little stopping.
      Most optimal speed is between 30mph and 50mph.
      Of course if you’re driving round town, it’ll be less than this and most likely due to traffic, you’d be stopping a lot more.

      There are so many factors involved though with driving and working out your mpg / electric range.
      Things to factor in are your speed, use of climate control and of course ambient temperature. If you’re on a motorway travelling at 70mph, this isn’t the optimum speed to achieve the max range.

Then you’ve got things for remote starting a car on Mercedes me available in the US but not in the UK. And then things like Dashcams in cars, until very recently in the UK wasn’t allowed for “inbuilt systems” from factory.

      Hey I’d love to but you’ll have to chat to Mercedes for that sort of thing. Specs vary throughout the world and quite often throughout the year so will be different.
      If you don’t want to chat to anyone, have a look at their brochures on their website, that’s where I get all my info from 👍🏼 it’s different for each model too! 😅

    Hello. I just tumbled on your channel and find your videos very informative BUT I need your help: Just bought a used but extra clean 2007 SLK350 and I would like to know how to have the speakers located behind the driver and passenger to work as the sound system says SURROUND in the controls but without any buttons or other controls to adjust it ????? Thanks.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Patrick! Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos!
      Yes I thought this too but in an SLK and SLC, there are only two speakers in those cars because there are only two seats. I thought the same when I drove one last and was playing around with the multimedia system. The perforated holes at the rear are not speakers and I guess are ventilation or something?
      You can confirm this by going onto your speaker settings and looking at the EQ menus where the Fader settings are. There is no option on that model of car to send audio to the rear (only left and right) because there aren’t any speakers in the back.
      Hope that helps!

    I have a Spanish 2023 GLE with LED High Performance lights. I’ve been told by my local Mercedes garage that I have to change the headlights in order to import it to the UK. However, as you’ve mentioned on the video they are meant to be flat beam.
    When I look at the beam pattern it’s isn’t perfectly symmetrical and I realise that driving in the UK legally with the lights unaltered is different to the legal requirements for importing the vehicle.
    My question- do I really need to go to the expense of buying two new lights in order to import the car into the UK.
    NB/ rear fog already done.

      Hey timothyreed455, ah very nice!
      Really sorry I wouldn’t know what specs are like in other countries, only thing I can suggest is to chat to Mercedes but it sounds like you’ve done that already.
      I know of course in the UK, there’s an MOT test and each country has their own “safety on road test” and their own thing they check for.
      Sorry I wouldn’t know on that one, I’d be suggesting to chat to Mercedes as they’re going to be the ones who can offer guidance.

    I live in the UK. Great video. I have a question. The switching of the RST TO LSD does not work. When I change the setting in the dash menu on my 2022 Marco Polo with ILS it accepts the change until I turn the ignition on to drive. I get a message “de-activated” & the dipped beam icon disappears. I have tried this while in France & at home. Nobody I have spoken to at 3 dealerships can explain to me why it is not working. Just wondered if you could provide some advice please. This is so frustrating. Is there a 2nd line support at Mercedes. I have looked on most forums with no luck to resolve. Thanks Nick.

      @npoleary  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Neilstirling919,
      Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
      That’s not a fault, that’s just how Intelligent Light System works.
      Basically if you set the lights to the opposite side to which you drive on, some functions will not be available. All models with ILS will be like this, you can see the snippet in the manual here:
      “If you set the low beam for driving on the right or left, the display will show the Inactive for left-side traffic or Inactive for right-side traffic display message on the Lights submenu instead of Intelligent Light SystemMore. This display message will appear only if the setting for driving on the right or left is the opposite to your vehicle's national version.”
      I would imagine that the newer V-Class that’s been announced by Mercedes might have a newer light system which may be able to do both left side and right side traffic. Only seen the announcement so far, so will have to wait to see the specs and pricing for the newer one probably next year now.

      @@npoleary Thanks Nick. I think I have my head around this now. When setting the lights to the opposite side of the country version I have it will only avoid dazzling other users on the road but will not do the complete ILS functions,ie: change the lighting when cornering or detect other vehicle lights etc.
