The ones with new adaptive LEDs will probably have the option. Many basic LED light don’t have it. The advice about breathalyser is very confusing. Probably best to have them for £3.
@@TheWorldListens Yes. Most xenon and LED lights have a more or less flat beam pattern so there's no need to bother with the deflectors. I have never used them, and never had a problem. They just become a sticky mess to remove after baking in the sun for several weeks.
CRit -or clean air certificate needed for certain places in France. A spare bulb kit is recomended as driving with a bulb out is a fine. Speed camera detectors are banned so switch that off on your stanav. Reflective vests must be to hand b4 getting out of your vehicle.
Thank you for this really informative video. I have to go to France at fairly short notice and you have told me all I need to know to be properly prepared.
Very surprised you couldn’t change those headlights through car settings ~ I could even do that on my (2017) Mk3 ST3 Ford Focus with Bi-Xenon headlights for driving on Right ! Don’t need them on my current (2023) Mini Countryman with LED Adaptive (Matrix) headlights ~ although instruction manual says: do not use Adaptive (auto) mode.. Just trying to work out now where to place the Crit-air & German Environment Zone badge’s on windscreen, as on LHD cars it should be displayed on in he right side ~ but I’m tempted to just put where old tax disc used to be ~ as not too obscure my vision on my drivers side !
I travel through Europe a lot for many years: I never paid a fine from abroad if I get these by mail. Mostly for driving 'a couple of km/hrs too fast, nothing serious'. They only send you one notice, if you ignore it, you'll never hear from it again, because it's too much time, costs and energy for them to follow up their mails for a couply of euro's.
All good advice Marek, totally agree regards the breathalyser, it is not completely clear if France removed the requirement, probably have but for a few pounds why take the risk. Also if you have any tech that detects and alerts for speed cameras, even sat nav, this should be disabled in France because if stopped and discovered you will be fined as it is illegal.
There is no requirement to carry a breathalyser in France anymore. Even when there was a requirement, there was no penalty for not carrying one. I have never carried one, nor did any of my French relatives who live in France.
I also always wash my car before driving abroad, it just feels respectful and right! ##Make sure to keep the High Vis vests IN THE FRONT driver/ passenger of the vehicle NOT in the boot!
Hi Marek, I'm planning a similar trip just now to the Nurburgring and beyond into Switzerland, I can't wait! Can you tell me where you got your fingerless driving gloves? I've been looking everywhere for a pair and yours look great. Cheers, Lio :)
@@MDrives Thank you so much for replying Marek, I've ordered a pair! 😃 My bucket list place is going to be seeing Lauterbrunnen! Any recommendation on where to stay around there? Sorry you don't need to reply, but your videos have really helped me plan my bucket list trip around Europe 😅
Dziekuje bardzo. Very good tips. However, I am still not sure where to stick my headlamp deflectors. Instructions state ‘7 o’clock, but that seems illogical to me. I have a 2009 Honda Civic. Any ideas, anyone?
Hello. 7 o’clock seems perfectly logical. In the uk there is more light needed at “7 o’clock” to have the road side more visible. Whereas in other countries there will be cars at that “7 o’clock” so you would be blinding them.
Breathalyser not required in France anymore, plus on many modern cars go in to the menu for lights and select "Drive on the right", thats it sorted

Bmw led headlights just need switched off automatic according to manual. They have dot approved beam cutoffs.

Great advice. Thanks
Never knew it was very strict
Speed camera detectors are banned, however most people in France use Waze and they mark the exact location of the camera as police.
Thanks for the video Marek. The tolerance for this amount of bureaucracy is quite spectacular....
They could’ve unify the rules to make it simpler.
Really useful video man thanks I’m just planning my trip for June 👌🏽
Thanks for the comment. Have a good trip 👋

It’s different with LED. I can only switch off the adaptive function which you should but for Xenon’s you need the stickers.
I have always had my Crit-air sticker on the passenger side. Never had a problem.

That’s interesting. Personally I wouldn’t want to risk it.
Thanks Marek. As always great information. Im.off to Switzerland and France in a month. What about spare bulbs? Are they required?
Thanks
Yes for non-led lamps. Good shout! Thanks
My insurance specifically excludes the Nurburgring :(
They all do mate
@@MDrives so what do you do? Can you get insurance to cover driving there?
@@McGubbins42 take a risk I’m afraid. You can get day insurance but it’s very expensive and not worth a lot.
Great video 👏

Out of curiosity why does it make a difference?
so i don't need to get a green ulez badge, is that right.
If you are planning to go into some cities you might need it.
Any link for the spray you used inside the car ?

No spare lightbulbs required?
No, not a legal requirement in many countries anymore.

Thanks for your feedback but that’s what is sold here in Uk and I doubt that anyone will ever bother as long as it’s displayed on your reg.
