Those crayfish are looking so large and seem to be larger than the ones we see here in Arkansas. I don't catch or eat them as they are too small, but they love them in Louisiana.

I love the crawfish camera hog at 9:40 followed by the one arm bandit.
You say you use salmon because it is a oilly non_preditory fish, but have you tried other oily non-preditory fish for bait like tuna or cod or sardines? I have heard of others having very good success with cans of tuna with holes punched in the can and thrown in the trap. I was thinking maybe you could do that with cans of Salmon or a roll top can of sardines, herring, or anchovies. All three are oily and salty fish.
Maybe that could be a video suggestion with a GoPro trap. Use several different types of oilly fish in a can and see witch one attracts the most crawfish. Canned fish is cheaper than the whole stuff too. I have also heard, because crawfish are scavengers that they are more attracted to rotten fish than fresh fish or chicken for that matter.

Very cool footage! Unfortunately this last season came and went quickly for me. I got the trap you guys gave me from the contest out twice. Both times it caught a decent amount of crayfish. I used striped bass heads from some fish I caught locally and the bait worked well. My gopro is floating around the pacific ocean somewhere near Malibu still, so I didn't get any footage yet... lol. This coming season I will make a point to try and borrow a go pro to send you guys some field research.
Also, ironically I wore the field research shirt today while duck hunting the Sacramento Valley and saw this video in my recommended videos this afternoon.

Have you guys ever tried putting something like black cloth/felt on the ramp? They seemed somewhat reluctant to climb that wide mesh. Obviously plenty do climb it but you could see many in the video start and then back off. Just an idea if you haven't already tried it. I love the videos and agree 100% that the best bait, hands down, is fresh (or fresh frozen) oily fish!

Hi Christopher! We have tried fine mesh over the entry ways thinking the same thing. We did not catch any more than the traps with no mesh. We thought the same thing, and some crawfish seem more cautious than others. Thanks for watching, Mike

I'm thinking about taking the canoe out and placing them deep with a float on the line to mark the traps. I have them in 6 feet of water right now but I think the Rustys may be deeper.

Crayster Traps are now available on Amazon. There's a Creek Trap (small version of the flat trap) $70, a Lake Trap (bigger version of the flat trap) $80 and most recently they released the Crayster Snake River Cylinder Trap $89. I just bought 2 Lake Traps and 2 Cylinder Traps and they are killer. The flat traps have new features such as a powder coated finish, new latches (no more bungies), and spikes on the one way doors of the flat traps to keep the crayfish from escaping. All the traps are made in the USA, are excellent quality, and easily I would consider them to be commercial grade traps. You definitely get what you pay for with these. High quality and well work the money if you are serious about catching crayfish.
