    2:12 In short... 1,000 years ago, there was a massive war between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic/Jedi Order (there had been MANY such wars throughout millions of years prior). The war ended with the apparent extinction of the Sith, and victory for the Jedi and Republic. However, a few Sith survived and went into hiding, planning their revenge. Among them were two, named Darth Bane and Darth Zannah. Bane believe the Sith Empire's numbers were its undoing (all the Sith killing each other to grab more power, rather than making the Sith Empire itself more powerful). So Bane established the "Rule of Two:" At any given time, there would be EXACTLY TWO Sith Lords, a Master and an Apprentice. The Master would embody the power, and the apprentice would grow to take it, continuing the tradition. The point was that, if the apprentice always grew stronger than the master, then each successive Sith would be stronger than the previous, until they grew strong enough to destroy the Jedi.
    2:40 The big battle the movie opens with is the Battle of Coruscant, one of the final battles of the Clone Wars. Also I will inform you that three years have passed since Attack of the Clones. There's an animated series titled Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which ran for seven seasons that covers everything between Episodes II and III.
    7:00 This duel had a lot of little details. My favorite is specifically *how* Dooku was keeping an advantage. See... Obi-Wan overwhelmingly specializes in defense, while Anakin is an overwhelming specialist in offense. So Dooku was pushing Anakin back, forcing him on defense, while forcing Obi-Wan to attack, using both of their weaknesses against them at the same time. However, Dooku's own specialty was also his weakness. Dooku specialized in classical saber-on-saber dueling, which relied heavily on maintaining a fixed rhythm. So once Obi-Wan was out of the duel, Anakin reverted to his signature style and overwhelmed Dooku with nonstop heavy strikes, breaking his rhythm and creating an opening to deal the deciding move.
    8:50 Anakin's reply "His fate will be the same as ours" is actually true. Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Palpatine all died aboard the Death Star (Obi-Wan on the first Death Star in ANH, and Anakin and Palpatine on the Death Star II in ROTJ).
    10:20 Anakin's comment of Grievous being shorter than expected are later explained to be because his apprentice, Ahsoka (who is very small) described Grievous as being huge.
    13:20 The relationship is forbidden pretty much only from Anakin's side, being a Jedi. I don't think Padme would experience any difficulties as a senator being married to a Jedi.
    28:00 Grievous isn't a droid. He's a species called Kaleesh. He basically got the RoboCop treatment.
    32:30 Palpatine/Darth Sidious actually normally looks like this. His "normal" appearance is the result of using Sith alchemy to disguise his dark side-corrupted appearance. Having his force lightning reflected back at him simply broke that disguise.
    35:50 This Jedi youngling was deliberately made to resemble Anakin when he was little in order to symbolize Anakin killing his former self.
    36:30 This Jedi padawan is portrayed by Jet Lucas, George Lucas' son.

    There is a theory that Padme died because Sidious used the Force to pull the essence of life out of Padme and into Vader, that the reason this is a power of the Dark Side is because in order for a life to be created or spared, a life must be taken. @piotrkijak1774 He was definitely treated better as a jedi, but they still forced him to forget about his mother and his childhood trauma. He had to hide his relationship to Padme because it is against the jedi code. He was forced to be part of a war (this wasn't necessarily just the jedi's fault). As wise as the jedi are, they are still a space cult and Qui Gonn saw through that and was able to bend or break the rules if need be.

  • @quoniam426

    Except for the sole location unit, this movie functions as a Greek Tragedy. We know the ending and we can only see the characters fate unfold. Chi, I think you would love Greek Tragedies and also French 18th Century recreations of those with the same themes.
    Grievous is NOT a droid. he's a cyborg, like Darth Vader, a gravely injured alien warrior turned into a cyborg.
    Oh, Anakin knows he mssed up pretty bad. As the Jedi teachings go, he thinks he's beyond redemption and goes all into the Dark Side, hoping it will save Padmé.

    • @ggstatertots
      @ggstatertots 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Exactly, and unfortunately the jedi's philosophy don't allow Anakin to get closure with his mother and his childhood. The jedi aren't necessarily wrong to teach detachment, but without processing his trauma he ends up persisting in it by fearing losing Padme as it is the one thing he can love and have a familial attachment to outside of the jedi. That's why to me the other greatest tragedy besides Anakin turning into Vader is Qui Gonn dying. If he was able to mentor Anakin, he would be wise enough to allow Anakin to not be so rigid with the jedi code and be understanding of his emotions. He would have never turned to the dark side if that were the case.

    Almost all Anakin hate comes from not understanding his character or his pov. The jedi lost their way and were political tools who denied emotion instead of embracing it. Yoda led the order this way and indoctrinated every jedi to this line of thinking. Anakin was emotionally stunted from the jedi being borderline sociopaths who denied emotions from early age. The entire galaxy and jedi council got played by Sidious but Anakin always gets the most hate for falling for Palpatines seduction when he's been groomed by him since he was a child. The council was going to take over the galaxy and Yoda admits "this line of thought brings us to a dark place" so Anakins not wrong when he says he knew they were plotting to take over. Light or dark, they were both ruling or fighting to rule the galaxy. One side just denies you any love or emotion and treats you like shit and fears you, while the other embraces your insecurities to his gain. Anakin is a victim to his surroundings.

    This is my thought on anakin being the chosen one. There were hundreds of light users but only 2 dark users. When he brought "balance", he essentially ended it with 2 light and 2 dark users. The jedi misinterpreted the prophesy. In a way the force itself needed this to happen. This is why quigon Jin is one of my favorite characters, he did not let politics influence him, he truly understood the will of the force and got anakin trained regardless.

      He was practically a best combat Jedi they had (in overall campaigns, not 1v1 fights etc), yes there were Jedi that were better in certain fields of expertise, but Anakin and Obi-Wan were at the top. And the council feared him + Yoda and Windu wanted him to NOT be the chosen one, and wanted that honnor for themselves.

      @johandark5736 is that last bit canon? I always thought that they viewed Anakin's Midlothian levels to be so high that it could be conflicting to him and so they feared that. I can never see Yoda as wanting to take any highest power for himself, but I can probably see that in Windu.

    • @johandark5736
      @johandark5736 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marksawicki3595 OK, I am not sure if it is official canon, but from what I saw in other videos and explanations, Yoda thought that he can defeat Sidious (or the "Sith master" when they did not know that it was Palpatine) and thus that he might be the chosen one if he wins, and by failing to defeat him during the "Senate duel" he not only recognised that it was not him, but he was so devastated (mainly because the Jedi fall was in big part his fault by his 800+ years of leadership), that he did not join the rebellion, but just hid (Ok, he might wanted to improve his Force skills too). Generally in these discussions is mentioned that Anakin was not welcomed by almost anyone in the Jedi order, be it fellow padawans or teachers, and so he just practiced enough to be the best, which alienated them even more. Also he (similar to Dooku when he was in the order) liked combat forms that were better at fighting other light-saber users, which worried the council (as there was no real need for it for 1k years, except some fallen Jedi and few others). Anyway, they FEARED Anakin and his potential, even if they did not said it openly.

The protagonists comprise returning characters from the films, including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala, Yoda, and Mace Windu, as well as new characters created specifically for the series, such as Anakin's Padawan Ahsoka Tano and clone Captain Rex of the 501st Legion.

    One way you can relate to Anakin vs. Vader is that Vader is basically only TECHNICALLY alive, his suit only keeps him on the absolute brink of death and locks him into relying on the power of the Dark Side, his pain and (self) hatred making his heart beat just one more time, the suit forcing his lungs to fill and empty like an iron lung beyond his direct control. The agony he experiences every second of every day both keeping him alive and utterly destroying his mind. Justification is the word you are looking for. In everything Anakin did, his passion drove him, but he needed justification to make him feel like he was doing right. He used saving Padme's life as justification for saving Palpatine, he used the fact that he was the chosen one, destined for great things, as justification for wanting to be a Jedi Master and that Obi-Wan and the council were holding him back. And because the Jedi organization kept holding him back, he used it as justification to assault the Jedi temple and slaughter those within. Padme was being manipulated by Obi-Wan (in his mind) that was his justification for choking her at the end. If you really look at the choices Anakin made when he was a child, you can see it then...he always felt a driving need to do something, and in order to overcome any internal debate, he found something to justify his actions to remove that internal conflict. Justification was a tool Anakin used throughout the prequels...everything he did, he had a reason, a justification for doing what he did, despite someone or even everyone, telling him he shouldn't do it.

    • @julianmarco4185
      @julianmarco4185 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I really like this explanation. He did so much wrong because he thought that the ends justified the ends.
      He sort of achieved his ends but he did not stopped to think if there was another way he could have done it that was better for everyone.
      Anakin said that he would free the people of his planet. But we never know if he did because once his mother died he saw no need anymore.
      He said that he would bring peace to the Galaxy because Padme was inside it, but once she died he no longer saw a point in being peaceful.
      In the end, he keeps himself alive because he still hopes that his life will bring some kind of meaning to the Galaxy. Like he didn't live and suffer and being suffering to others for nothing. Like it is all supposed to bring some kind of culmination ending to his life.
      And it kind of did... but his life is a story about how prophecies and chosen ones can mean something different and how they can be used to justify a lot of evil.

The next time they meet, he will have fallen into becoming Darth Vader, and any remnant of the boy he trained and loved like a brother is gone. That reality impacts Obi-Wan so much that he later tells Luke that Vader betrayed and murdered Anakin, so completely does he feel his friend has been erased. Also, tiny little detail, as they part ways and say goodbye, Obi stands in the light, while Anakin is bathed in shadow, a bit of foreshadowing for something we all knew was coming.

    another wonderful reaction, ladies! you never fail to entertain me.
    Palpatine was draining Padme's lifeforce to save Anakin after the serious injuries he suffered on Mustafar. That's why she died.
    One thing I wish they had included in the film was how Grievous got his cough. During the faux kidnapping of Palpateine, Windu force crushed his lungs.
    Another thing that could have been better, in my opinion, is the first duel. In the book, the author does a good job of explaining why they were able to overcome Dooku. Anakin and Obi Wan had been working on their team efforts in regard to lightsaber combat. They actually used both strategy and tactics in order to defeat Dooku. At the beginning of the duel, they actually attacked dooku with styles that weren't their normal ones (form 3 for obi-wan, highly defensive, he was THE master of soresu at this time, and form 5 for anakin, a very aggressive offense oriented style, Anakin was arguably one of the order's best practitioners of Djem So): Obi Wan used the opening stance of form 1 and Anakin assumed the stance of form 4. At some point, they both switched back to the forms that they were the best at and wore Dooku down by a careful, deliberate and constant attack.
    It is important to note that cutting off Dooku's hands actually accomplished more than one thing: With his hands gone, he can't use force lightening so it rendered him fully helpless. Palpatine had promised that he would intervene on Dooku's behalf if Anakin got the better of him. This, of course, was a lie. Dooku was just a tool that Palpatine used to acquire Anakin.
