So, I just recieved a lovely shiny new 30 litre Apollo Unitank today. Hoping to make some nice lagers in this current UK summer :-) I could have just bought the snub nose version; but I might want to harvest yeast in the future (if my brewing skills improve). So, I bought the 'better' model, just in case. QUESTION >> : Anyway ... how do i use the Apollo unitank as a snub nose? You mention it is possible. You also mention that the stand can be turned upside down if using simply as a snub nose. So ... how do i seal that big hole in the bottom, before filling with wort ... if not using a collection bottle? Humble apologies if tiz a daft question. Many Thanks in advance 🙂🙂
You can simply keep the plunge valve closed and not use the collection bottle if you want to run your Apollo as a Snub Nose. Does that make sense? You take the height of the fermenter down by not having it oriented in the stand higher.
@@Keg-King how do I close the plunge valve (so that the liquid doesn't just fall out of the bottom of the fermenter) and then fill up the fermenter with liquid? I can't workout how to close/seal the bottom opening without having the cap/lid fitted ... which then prevents filling with liquid..
@@paulharling8464 the plunge valve seals into the opening at the bottom assembly at the base of the cone. It will seal even if you don't have the catchment bottle in place.
looks cool, i use your fermenters since years. But i would like to just buy the bubbles every 2 years and I don't find them. Always the full package...
Actually forgetting the o-ring was excellent as you know someone else will do the same but at first they will think something is defective before realizing they missed a part.
Some of those dry hopping ports already have the o-ring installed when they're packed in the bag of parts. Obviously this one didn't, but yeah, thought it was a good opportunity to show what leaks look like in the foam. Easy to fix. Thanks for watching. Cheers
I've already been fermenting new batch using Apollo and I'm a bit confused. - Plunger Valve is a big mistake, once you put this down it's hard to move it upwards - When you dry hop your beer with the plunger valve open you should be careful because even if you try to close it and unscrew the collection bottle the plunger valve doesn't lock this hole between the fermenter and collection bottle tightly even when you hit this with hammer and as a result it's a boom and you get a lot of dirt around you. In this case I think that Fermzilla is a lot better designed as it has this grip in the container. Once your collection bottle is empty and you screw it again you will never raise up the plunger valve because of the pressure in the Unitank. Much as I like Keg King Junior I think that this construction is fine when you forget about the plunger valve and the collection bottle.
When you ferment, the valve should be up. Don't Dryhop your beer from the bottom of the fermeter. That's not how it's done. There is a dryhop port in the lid. To remove the collection bottle under pressure you should first remove some pressure from the head space with the PRV. That will make sealing and removal heaps easier for you.
@@Keg-King it’s certainly is up while fermentation, when I try to put this down it doesn’t fit tightly. I never dry hop from the bottom, I release pressure, add hops and close .

Great product!!!, I would like to buy someof this Apollo 30L Unitank, is it possible to send it to me to Mexico? I will be happy to pay the shipping costs, thanks in advance for your answer and quotation...
Hi Chavo. There's a lot of people in Mexico that have let us know that they want these tanks and hopefully we can convince our North American distributor to start to make that happen for brewers where you are located. The people at Anvil brewing in the states currently have stock of the 60 litre versions of these tanks. They're currently getting a small batch of 30L tanks sent over. Please let them know you're after them and we will too! Cheers
Hi mate Is there a small vessel that can be used to add the dry hops at a later day which won't affect the carbonation process? Or is it best to let out the pressure and add in through the hops hole? Then re apply the pressure? Thanks in advance 👍
Dryhopping can be done through the dryhop port or can be done by relieving pressure and dropping in the hops through the lid into the cloud of gas inside the fermenter. There are heaps of ways to go about dryhopping including using magnets and hop pouches suspended in the tank until you are ready to move them in. As for carbonation, you really don't need to be carbonating while dryhopping. Carbonating is going to happen during the cold crash, so if you run pressure throughout the fermentation, carbonation isn't what is going to get affected, but rather the threat of foaming up when you relieve the pressure, so in this way, it's more about timing when you do your dryhop. There are heaps of brewers spending incredible amounts of money making contraptions for dosing their homebrew batches with dryhops. In so many ways, this is completely unnecessary. We have spoken to brewers in commercial settings who make some of Australia's best IPA's, in fact we'd wager they make the most IPA in the country. They do not use any devices to dose their fermenters or unitanks. They do what we do. Depressurise, dump in the hops then quickly seal up the fermenter and repressurise. Done.
@@Keg-King sorry to be a pain mate but is there a secret for not stirring up the sediment when releasing pressure after carbonating back to pouring pressure? I've got about 1 liter sitting on top of the catchment vessel at the bottom, but when I released the pressure to remove the hops it stirred everything back up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated yet again 🍻
I really don"t understand why your Pro move was so smart as it was a complete waste of time as you could have slide it on with the float attached???? Please explain!!!!

@@1989trent1 At what pressure are you carbonating, at what pressure do you want to serve and at what temperature are you holding inside the vessel?
Is it possible to add dry hop without access to oxygen ?
Absolutely. using the dryhop port, you are literally pouring the hops into a cloud of gas.
Remember, there is oxygen in the hop pellets.

I dont like the instability of these kinds of vessels. But down under physics may be different. 😁
