I've had the s90 R-Design for about 2 months now. I travel up and down the m6 every week and can honestly say the Pilot assist and Adaptive Cruise Control are a god send. I use it every time without a problem. I've never once felt it was trying to kill me and I've tested its capabilities, a lot. I would say the only issues I find is it will not slow down to take a steep bend automatically unless there's a car in front of you that slows down. On typical motorways though, I drove 60 miles without any input into the car on the m6. It just happens to be a massive bonus that its the comfiest drive I've had. The fuel savings are awesome too
Yeah we have the XC90. I don't like to use the pilot cause it doesn't work as effeciently as my neighbors Model X. I borrowed her Model X for a day and auto-pilot took me from the Inland Empire into Downtown Los Angeles with no assistance from me other than tapping the steering wheel on the prompts. I have to say by far so far the Tesla is the best. Even my Volvo currently can't touch it.
Martin de Urgoiti it's the best idea to buy a Volvo, I have a Volvo V90 and it is so great, Volvo ist the safest and best car band. I have Volvos now for about 24 years and they have the best cars at the world.
@Mr Music it's can't. SPA Volvo cars only have 1 EyeQ4 front camera and therefore cannot detect sharp turns. You need at least two additional side cameras to make it happen.
drove a s90 with pilot assist, its impressive having never driven cars with enhanced cruise controls before. it did well other than the awkward kinks in the roads the seem to make it drift out if the lane that made to take the wheel.
This must be an early software version, I have the latest update and it didn't need a single correction for 40 miles of motorway driving which included some bends which were reasonably sharp at 80mph
Thank you for this review! It helped me make the decision and I just bought a fully loaded 2017 S90 T6 Inscription. I really have not figured out yet why anyone would actually need to let go of the wheel while driving. However, I guess I will learn more from driving it a lot.
Why is the red light (almost) continuously flashing? I appreciate this demo of what the system can do, and am very seriously considering replacing my VW Phaeton with this.
I probably wouldn’t have optioned mine with it, however I think it becomes standard as you go up the trim lines as my 2019 s90 has it and it wasn’t optioned
I was using driver assist on clear sunny day. The road was dry, double yellow line visible as well as white line. The road was curvy. I had driver assist on and it was engaged. The green wheel was showing to let me know driver assist was engaged. As driver assist was engaged, my Volvo X60 2021, crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic. As a result of that, I no longer can trust driver assist. I have watched several videos that have indicated when driver assist is on, it might be safer to take eyes off road for a bit whether that be to check a text, grab sunglasses, etc. Had I trusted driver assist and taken my eyes off the road for a second, I would have had a head on collusion. Unfortunately, I believe the problem is that driver assist is giving people a false sense of safety/security to take eyes off the road, even for a bit, when driver assist is engaged.
I agree completely. These systems are in a grey transition zone that create lots of dangerous situations. I guess that is inevitable in order to make the transition to complete autonomous driving.
It was working fine until the 2019 Q3 patches when Vv replaced the PA symbols. From there they just ruined everything you paid several thousands of $$$.
I tried the v90cc and when you let go of the steeringwheel it keeps driving very well but after like 5 seconds it starts beeping that you need to steer the car manually and then disengages. I think its just for safety and its saying that its not ready to drive itself completely i guess.
I have exactly the same features on my new Ford Fiesta Mk8. The semi-autonomous drive is just a lane keeping assist feature. Not really trustworthy or a special feature.
He has no chance to let it go. This system will deactivate itself when you do not hold the steering wheel for few seconds in high speeds and for about 1-1.5 minutes in very low speeds. I use it in Istanbul every single day. It is so helpful in traffic but you can't depend on it 100%. Keep in mind its name is (Pilot Assist) not (Auto Pilot). It is not a Tesla :)
Tks for your good test film. I wonder which is better system compared to Merc.'s Drive Pilot ? It seems both systems are not perfect under the general condition now.
The Tesla's UI does make it more interesting. However, owning a XC 90 and having used the auto pilot, it does help you specially in traffic conditions. Ofcourse, one needs to get used to it and understand what limitations the auto pilot has. Once, you have spent some time understanding this, you are more at ease or rather able to benefit more from the use of auto pilot. I am yet to upgrade to auto pilot 2 and looking at your video helped me quite a bit. Thanks for posting this.
eGear TV have you analysed it? I think the Volvo is a bit better, and it warns us with chimes not like the E Class. The drive pilot also drives a bit to the left in my opinion
so as far as we noticed audi mercedes and bmw has the biggest advantage on this field also they way more better in safety assistance in technological area volvo change the shape keeps the strongest budy and chassis
This system seems to be pointless to me, at least part of it. I would be more stressed to keep hand in the position you have on this film rather then have them on the steering wheel. Car seems to veer to the left when on autopilot(at the beginning of the film on this single lane road). Because you have to touch the wheel every so and now I can't see the point of paying extra for that system in other cars(as far as I know in this Volvo is included as standard). Only nice thing is that it stops itself ,so even when you have a car in front with stop lights not working it will react quicker then a you spotting that it started breaking(good when heavy traffic in towns)
the only way any of these systems will work, is if the infrastructure is developed where the roads and other vehicles communicate with one another....systems like this is barely better than a toy
weirdshibainu not true. It can be done without modifications to the roads - we just need to collect more data, build better ML algorithms and train our models. Ez
Cause Volvo understands how dangerous it could be, Tesla just another company, which shout out loud and try to get a lot money from customers, until this technologies will be fully ruled by laws and restrictions.
David van der Zande are you crazy?! My brother had a Tesla one year ago and he said: This car is a real piece of shit. A few days later he bought the new Volvo S90 and he said, that this car is so much better. I asked him one minute ago how he thinks now about the car and he means that the Volvo is extremely good and he will never buy an other car, only Volvos. You are a liar and you are jealous that Volvo is the best!
Polli TV LOL!! Either you're lying your ass of or your brother is a complete nutcase. Tesla is a premium car and lightyears ahead of Volvo in all aspects. Volvo is a mid-range car where the only thing premium is the price. They are laughing at Teslas autopilot and this is what they come up with. Ridiculous and embarrassing to say the least.
The Pilot assist is just an assistance. see th-cam.com/video/VfaMWbGeO5Y/w-d-xo.html for what volvo has for autonomous drive. first xc90 for the public, to test in every day situations.
Volvo has patched it since then and deactivated a lot of logic, it is now a self-righteous killer robot who wants to do arm wresting with the driver totally randomly..sadly. Volvo too became crap in the last 3 years.
That Peugeot behind you is so close!
Goot tailgater lol
That normal driving here on Balkans haha tailgater is when you see no headlights behind only driver :D
“Err mah god it’s a S90” i would do the same too
3:30 I can imagine that's probably how Darth Vader drives to work everyday.
I drove 500km with the XC90 and the pilot-assist works like a charm on the highway.
Relax man, hands down. It's a Volvo !! :)
Fax!!

Great video guys to actually see this system in operation. Volvo has for as long as I can remember been synonymous with safety
Yeah we have the XC90. I don't like to use the pilot cause it doesn't work as effeciently as my neighbors Model X. Thanks for the test. This really helped to confirm that I will buy this car.
can you buy one for me too please?
Martin de Urgoiti it's the best idea to buy a Volvo, I have a Volvo V90 and it is so great, Volvo ist the safest and best car band. I have Volvos now for about 24 years and they have the best cars at the world.
Martin if you bought it tell us your experience please ..
A brief update would be nice on your experience with the s90
If you do not trust it, don't use it. It seems that you are not better off with it.
I was getting anxiety on his behalf because he was so nervous lol
1:55 no balls
Sure, my car dont have pilotassist. Where do you live?
@Mr Music it's can't. SPA Volvo cars only have 1 EyeQ4 front camera and therefore cannot detect sharp turns. You need at least two additional side cameras to make it happen.
drove a s90 with pilot assist, its impressive having never driven cars with enhanced cruise controls before. it did well other than the awkward kinks in the roads the seem to make it drift out if the lane that made to take the wheel.
1:55 good thing you actually turned the wheel because even volvo says in turns YOU ARE supposed to turn the wheel yourself. Still a great vid.
I've watched this video like a 100 times already,, that Peugeot still pisses me off! xD
This must be an early software version, I have the latest update and it didn't need a single correction for 40 miles of motorway driving which included some bends which were reasonably sharp at 80mph
Yes bro this video is 3 years old lol

Smooth, intelligent and smooth car!
Yup that's Tesla.
Why is the red light (almost) continuously flashing? I appreciate this demo of what the system can do, and am very seriously considering replacing my VW Phaeton with this.
Going to buy Base D3 Momentum model as a first car
Wow I wouldn't even bother getting it as an option at this stage.
Andre Brokman its not autopilot, its just to help you just in case
I probably wouldn’t have optioned mine with it, however I think it becomes standard as you go up the trim lines as my 2019 s90 has it and it wasn’t optioned
Owen Staples it’s included in the advanced package. Which should have 360 camera etc
Mark Benavidez no, mine is the inscription pro so I think It come standard with that. I don’t have the reversing camera
Great gadget if you want to catch up on lost sleep on what to work!?
Beautiful VOLVO😍😍😍
The System works well up to 60 or 70 mph but in straight road condition curve not so much
Going in that tunnel was so scary to see xD I'm sitting behind my laptop going "Oooooooh!" xD
the way he drives is like a game
Weird, the ACC doesn't re-adjust to the speed limits ? (Car driving at 90kmh despite the big 50 limit, see 8:16)
Awesome driving! 👍
Beautiful car!

Doesn't look like the most confidence inspiring semi-autonomous steering system
shit, this made me want the car even more :D
Why?
check audi mercedes and bmw
I have exactly the same features on my new Ford Fiesta Mk8. The semi-autonomous drive is just a lane keeping assist feature. Not really trustworthy or a special feature.
si tu coupes le start/stop pas besoin de redonner des gaz pour redémarrer
The system is really good but he doesn't have the balls to let go.

Thanks, I can't imagine driving the drive pilot on autobahn with the cruise control set to 210 km/h
so as far as we noticed audi mercedes and bmw has the biggest advantage on this field also they way more better in safety assistance in technological area volvo change the shape keeps the strongest budy and chassis
Hi, I'm wondering if you can just barely steer with one hand for the Autopilot to continue to work?
Yes, that would work, you need almost no resistance on the wheel.
this isnt autonomous, this is just helping you, you need to pay attention, and hold the wheel
nice car

fast fast car
suprise😄
The car tailgating you, someone you know? Any closer and they could be your Doctor.
拍的很清楚,仔細。thanks
WOW
... on way to work I meant!
I'd find this very stressful I think!
Can you configure the speed to autoadjust to road speed limits ?
It does it automatically. So does the HUD, it reds the sign, adjusts the speed and puts the sign on the HUD
For me it is sens-less . Would you like to drive a car grabbing the stereeing will all the time. It is better to keep your hands all the time.
Is this KITT or a S90?
topwagen super mooi
Nog een Belg

The Tesla Autopilot seems to work much better. I wonder why the Volvo is so much worse, as they use the same MobilEye system.
David van der Zande Because thy dort want to have got a fully self driving car.
David van der Zande volvo does not have fully auto pilot dude
Cause Volvo understands how dangerous it could be, Tesla just another company, which shout out loud and try to get a lot money from customers, until this technologies will be fully ruled by laws and restrictions.

More like you're assisting the car, and the UI graphics look like something from a flip phone.
The Cereal Tree You might you want to look at Tesla UI or any modern smartphone and compare.
The Cereal Tree You look at a dialog clock all the time on your smartphone?
I highly doubt it, with the 1440p resolution standard.
The Cereal Tree I said both GUI and display
qué miedo!! me pondría un poco nervioso....
Hm, i guess i would not dare to do this on a road with traffic both ways :O
He is not familiar with the system, it’s better than his demonstration.
You are too nervous. I use it everyday and it works.
start music?
Darude - Sandstorm
god that black car is a tailgater.. i would brake check him.
This video sucks. You are afraid to let go of the wheel!
The speed indicator takes up too much space. All my viewing pleasure is gone.
อยากได้จังครับราคาเม่าไร
LTACY
Yes, but not a test E, IF ANY 5 Seconds put your hands on the wheel! Thumbs Down! everything is irritating!
So, does it work? you are so nervous - taking control on every curve - so I suppose it does not work that well?
Volvo you are amazing :L I want your car, give it to me!
The Pilot assist is just an assistance. see th-cam.com/video/VfaMWbGeO5Y/w-d-xo.html for what volvo has for autonomous drive. first xc90 for the public, to test in every day situations.
more conservative than tesla, but safer.
You must keep your hands near the steering wheel... it is stuped...
so ita really just to show off. not very useful or practical
Volvo has patched it since then and deactivated a lot of logic, it is now a self-righteous killer robot who wants to do arm wresting with the driver totally randomly..sadly. Volvo too became crap in the last 3 years.
Damn the hoverhands throughout the video. I hope you don't behave like that around women ;)
Hoover dam*
adamdaki got korkusu hahahahah
too careful🙄
Well I can tell that he's over nervous IMAO
Mer cedez and audi is bette like volvo because asist drive you dont ned by scared witht this shith
They was scared
under*
system crashes, boom
Bad control
….your hands in there, get off
My god, you are clearly not the right person to demonstrate this... LOL
I was not trying to demonstrate how to use it either. Just trying to find out what the system can do by itself.
Беспонтовые системы н**** не нужные.
Stop grabbing the wheel, trust it! Or don´t do a video like this!
The guy has trust issues
Thanks for the diagnose, I'll get some counseling
