    It's not only great to see good mules doing their work, but also to see farmers working together. It seems this little patch had quite a nice yield of potatoes. I plow out my potatoes with a regular riding plow, since I can't walk behind the plow anymore. Our soil here is very heavy, and the heat and heavy rains thrash it down even more.

    hey Cousins, I have been working on a story about the Morris canal up in Jersey.
    I am a tuber and thought it would be nice to watch and hear the sounds of pulling barges along the canal over one hundred years ago. How often you think they changed out the mule teams? Impossible today with all or speed and tech? Love mules

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! I’ve read and saw stories of using horses and mules pulling barges thru small canals. Also using them to pull rail cars around on rail yards also. Of course rolling weight and boats would be easier to move than a dead weight load. With that said, I can’t give you a good answer on how often they swapped the animals out. Most of our mules we’ve ever had, we’ll work em a few hours then rest for a while. Then work a few more hours. But it’s slow steady work. Not hard pulling. Thanks for watching and the kind words

      Yes, he’s made many a trip with it. He’s laid off a lot of rows with it too. I’m just glad he can still do it. He’s starting to get fragile tho. And I hate to see it! It’ll happen to all of us tho if we live long enough. I sure do love him tho, he’s been a good friend to me. Thanks for watching my friend and commenting! I appreciate it

    I know nothing specific about mule hooves, length, shape etc. Are Pat and Pearl's feet too long?

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  ปีที่แล้ว

      No ma’am. Mules are similar to donkeys. Their feet are more upright. A mule has steeper shoulder angles also. A mule will have a tougher more upright type of foot. They have to be trimmed just like any other animal though. We usually trim ours about every 8-12 weeks usually just depends on growth, weather, conditions, work load, etc. Thanks a bunch for watching and also taking time to comment. I appreciate it. Take care and hope I answered your question.

      No, we don’t have any problems with fuel here that I know of other than it’s costly. We use our animals because it’s tradition for one, and then because in the woods the horses or mules don’t tear the young forest up like modern machinery. Thanks for the watching
