that it is so incredible, being about 18 and been called to play on your favourite band, and he came and simply nailed it, specially considering how complicated Butler's arrangements were, are and will be. Every time i listen to him i can't but think that he made them his own songs.
It's crazy how The Wild Ones chorus sounds like there's the orchestra there and everything, such a well arranged song. The case of Richard's proficiency is a curious one, for a lot of my following the band I couldn't distinguish if I was listening to Richard or Bernard (they even appear similar on stage!), which is kind of an issue now I think of it. I wish Richard used his prowess to pursue a more unique style, at some point at least, but I imagine the circumstances simply didn't let him. Bret was and still is a bit too dominant, which is why the band is going strong I guess, but I think he needs a creative counterbalance, which Bernard most certainly was.
My dad was health and Saftey so got in free, they gave free Doritos, saw Bowie. Was so hot and dusty! i grew up to Global Gathering there instead, Commercial dance shit.

What a concert!!! I remember recording it on a VHS tape and watching it many times. It was a push to love their music and see them several times live years later. At those shows I was able to get signatures from Brett and guitar picks from Bernard (with 'The Tears'). Very good people.
No matter what artists think when they grow older, the energy and vigour of their unbridled youth is something else! Nothing can bring youth back - no wisdom, matured intelligence or greater depth of older age can hold a candle to youth. Like Oscar Wilde famously said, "Youth is the Lord of life."
Saw them last Thursday at a local venue on the Coming Up 25 tour. Sold out, 900 Suede fans, hungry for a post-covid party. And they still deliver! Brett is as energetic as always, and the band was great. Nice to see them indoors and up close, it just adds something the festival/outdoors concerts lack, even if those concerts have been great too.
It's amazing that songs like Young Men, Together, My Dark Star, and Killing Of A Flashboy were just casually tossed out as B-Sides, other bands would kill for songs like that.
@@patrickcannchannel he also messed up the first verse to The Asphalt World heh (the "big stars in taxis" part) killer vocal performance all through the set in any case

Whole gig is brilliant, but the real treat for me was 'The Asphalt World'...don't think I've seen another live performance of it around. Would've loved to see Bernard rip through it, but Richard certainly did it justice. Truly epic.
So Young in this video made a suede fan for 20 years. What caught me was very enthusiastic vocalist (looks like Filippo Inzaghi after scoring) and very pretty young guitar player. I thought he was Bernard Butler, because it was hard to find additional information from internet at that time (no TH-cam). I'm glad to see the full version of this video with better quality.
Thank you for this! I remember listening to ‘still life’ from this gig on the radio in my bedroom age 16 and hearing ‘they think that they know me/I could show them a thing or two,’ different lyrics. Anyway, this gig was my introduction to Suede & I’ve been a fan of the band for 25 years :)

I was there. Amazing gig. From memory, Bob Dylan co-headlined, and they blew him away. Great to see the full show on here ❤
Richard was 17 or 18 here ? Let that sink in.fucking killing it.i was still pissing about on my bmx and playing super nintendo at that age.
Brett's vocal is so clear.
Band sound is solid..
Awesome show!!
OMG! The Asphalt World - How amazing and beautiful!

Richard really knows these songs like they were his own, it's no wonder the Coming Up sessions had two great albums worth of songs
