I love the lore reason of why Goblin Pothole Squad exists is due to all the Goblins getting depicted falling in Trap Holes (and thus eaten by the Traptrix). So I understand their caution at seeing every hole, going 'Nah, don't wanna be caught in that again!'
Fun fact, most of the time when an English name seems very repetitive, it is because two different works that translate to that word are being used in Japanese. So, for example, Ryu is the normal Japanese word for dragon, but they also use the word Doragon for dragon. This is because YGO, in universe, is made by Pegasus (an American), so a lot of names are using the Japanese transliteration of the English word. And so "Curse of Dragon - The Cursed Dragon" is "Norowareshi Ryū - Kāsu Obu Doragon" (if you say the last half out loud, you'll hear that it is a transliteration). The translators if YGO cards have a tough job these days.
Surprisingly, you cannot blame Upper Deck translators for Birdface (even though they were quite terrible at their job), as the Japanese name is Bādo Feisu.
8:00 In those ladies defends, Kick-Ass Goblin Bikers is the OCG name for that card, that card hasn't been release in the west and most likely its name will completely changed here (Like how Bad-ass Goblin Bikers were changed to "Goblin Bikers Gone Wild" in the TCG)

Don't worry it is not just them. As someone who only played until around syncro introduction, reading link, pendulum, and xzy cards give me an aneurism. I just cannot get back into the game. The fast pace and the length of combos is just no fun to me.
I really like how reasonable the questions are for people who haven't played yugioh before. I feel like some of the older "new player guesses" type videos would have them judging xyz cards without knowing anything about how the complicated mechanics work
Oh boy I was wondering when I saw the collab video on your Magic channel, are EDHijinks gonna go on this side of the office as well. so glad we have this!
I was a little worried going into this video but it was pretty fun and chill after all. I agree that playing games like "spot the fake card name" is much harder with people that have actual experience in the game although some kinda match-the-art could probably still work with older cards and newer players. Also it's nice showing the more comedic, doesn't-take-itself-that-seriously or 4th wall breaking side of Yugioh to people outside it.
The PCST on Pot of Indulgence is wrong, the restriction on the card preventing you from drawing cards for the entire turn means you can never legally activate the card as it lets you draw cards. The " You cannot draw cards by card effects the turn you activate this card." On Pot of Indulgence is the same as Pot of Prosperity, which notable DOESN'T draw cards. The restriction should have been more akin to Pot of Extravagance's "For the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot draw any cards by card effects." This subtle detail being on the card to reveal that it is fake is quite smart
Hearing them say the fake indulgence wouldn't be played cos you Exile 2 when Extravagence exiles 10 from the top and is very much played is hilarious lmao
IDK, I think several players blow that out of proportion. For the pros who are the best of the best that’s a bit more true, but I honestly think a card like Confiscation could probably come back at this point.
Nah, turn one that card goes crazy. The ability to be able to look at your opponents hand, therefore being able to play around handtraps is insane. That and your board can be tailored to whatever is in their hand
2:42 VS. System had each player draw 2 cards at the start of each turn. Turns were shared with 1 player having the initiative each turn to recruit characters, then attack. Initiative rotated each turn, die roll before the match determined which player got initiative on odd vs. even turns (die roll winners choice.)
Confiscation is kind of interesting to be compared to Magic's Thoughtsieze (which is not banned... anywhere I think), but it more aptly is compared to Grief. Grief you trade three cards in hand for a body in the field and ripping 1/4th of your opponent's starting hand. In Yugioh, Confiscation rips 1/5th for no cost other than the card itself. Add to that how Yugioh's speed is comparable to Legacy (where Grief is 100% banned) and that having no mana means one could, theoretically, Confiscate 3 cards off your opponent's hand turn 1, the comparison feels a lot more accurate with how banned it is
the important part to know for confiscation: since so many cards rely on each other making a person discard a card you choose is more impactful than in magic. also a 0 mana thoughtseize is vastly different than a 1 mana thoughtseize. remember gitaxian probe was banned in some formats. Relay Soul would be pretty powerful if it existed in Magic ("At the end of your turn, I cast Relay Soul and put Emrakul, the Aeons Torn from my hand onto the battlefield"), provided its mana cost wasn't too high. The main difference is that Yu-Gi-Oh, unlike Magic, doesn't really have many super-exciting main deck monsters to cheat out that can't be summoned more easily by conventional means. Most of the most powerful monsters are in the extra deck, not the main deck.
