    I have one of these. My great aunt gave it to me when I was very young. I played with it then, painted it, lost some parts, and then it sat on a shelf in the garage for about 40 years. Last summer I restored it. Luckily parts are available.

    Amazing how much this toy was built like the real thing; full frame, leaf springs, steering, etc. Like the color choice of British Racing Green. I would add red paint to the tail lights and off-white to the parking lights… but that’s my OCD kicking in! 😉. Nice job. ~ John

    Neat! I really like how that thing is built! Lots of screws instead of metal tabs bent over.

      Yeah, back in the day, this was a child’s toy. If it came out today, it’d be an adult collectible.

      @@ForDemoPurposesOnly and now children’s toys are... they are literally fidget spinner’s and stuff like that lol.

    Sir, I've NEVER left any negative comments on your site...BUT...this is my first.
    Your workmanship is without question the best I've seen. As is your paintwork.
    Never-the less, I cannot comprehend why you chose this !!!!GOD-AWFUL!!!! color for your
    perfectly beautiful restoration of this very rare, classic 50's Doepke Jaguar XK120.
    Perhaps you were attempting a British Racing Green?? If so, you didn't achieve that color.
    In my humble & respectful opinion, this XK120 deserves a respray; with a clear-coat as well.
    No disrespect intended.
    Kind regards,
    Ben

    The way it was built i was suprised the tires didnt have tubes in them.

    • @isaacsrandomvideos667

      It’s so realistic.

    • @isaacsrandomvideos667
      @isaacsrandomvideos667 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      suprised it doesn’t have a little V12 in there, along with a transmission, driveshaft, and all the controls.
      Most of it is there, I bet you could easily modify it into a running car (just obviously massively scaled down)

    So, to all of those who left disparaging comments,kiss off!
    A restoration of any object is a personal approach to a passage of time to entertain or stimulate one’s own imagination, or passion. No one cares about your thoughts or opinions. Get over yourself. The person who takes the time to share his story with you and everyone who watches should be respected for just that. I for one appreciate the time and effort that went into this restoration and that it was available for me to enjoy.

    It's beautiful, stronger than Tonka Toys. Those tyres are like new and not cracked or perished.A lovely model I would like.

  • @williamharris8367
    @williamharris8367 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I quite like the larger scale toys; few restorers tackle that size.
    The paint colour looks great; so much better than the light blue original!

    • @Emdee5632
      @Emdee5632 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That particular shade and hue is called ''British racing green''.

    • @duygukayhanisaskank4915
      @duygukayhanisaskank4915 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Emdee5632 With all due respect, the green color on this Jaguar XK120
      is not "British Racing Green".
      OK, it's kinda' close...BUT...it has too much "blue" in the mix to qualify as BRG.
      This restoration needs stripped, a primer coat & a color-correcting respray.
      Best regards,
      Ben

    Charles Doepke made some of the most well built toys of the time. The only problem was that they were extremely expensive. Doepke was not in the toy business for very many years, so they are very valuable and hard to find parts for.

    Given this was all screwed together rather than riveted, makes me wonder if it was made as a home assembly kit? Certainly makes stripping it down easier than rivets or twisted
    metal tangs.

      It was a kit… I built one of these (same color) in about 1957 or 58… Very well designed, and lasted for years of ‘abusive playing’. I lost track of it about 20 years ago- I believe one of my brothers still has it.

    Overall a very good work, the only two things that leave me slightly puzzled regards the body color and the screws.
    I mean you did a really good work, but the screws would have benefited from better restoration work and above all a new plating imho, they leave a poor impression when compared with the overall restoration.
    The body color, honestly I would have preferred if you had left the pastel blue, nothing to say about the English green, but it is so ordinary that it mortifies the beautiful line of the car, but it is my personal opinion, I congratulate you because the work you have done is really beautiful.
