I know you guys said you didn't want to add shonen jump stuff but I really feel that goku and frieza were an iconic story of villains that shape heroes. I mean I know DBZ has has a new villain every season. but that one is just really fits. plus frieza was in the thumbnail... also at one point you mentioned useless villains and I immidiatly thought of garlic jr. so DBZ has some of the best and worst examples. but it's worth mentioning. pivoting away from DBZ go go loser ranger was a great exmple the Antagonist Shapes The Protagonist. but also an example of the protagonist not always being a good-guy. oh and how about trigun. knives was a HUGE influence on vash. thats a good one I think. I want to say deadman wonderland but I hardly remember the show. xeno liked that one right? I think he could tell us how the antagonist shaped the protagonist. anyone see monster? it's been awhile but that story is a quinessential antagonist shapes the protagonist story. I want to add a sports anime just for the "well ofcourse reaction" I'd get from xeno but I can't think of any.
