I loved playing through the story of this game, problems aside, it’s the closet the games felt to the comics in tone. I would love this to come back in a better way.

I love how in this game, Eggman had to be encouraged to repress his violent urges.
Tbh you gotta admit the dialogue is one of the high points in this one, this is a game where you can ACTUALLY take Knuckles seriously, something that I missed since the Adventure days.

@@Mepphy99 I mean this game doesn't establish where it takes place in the continuity, so you could just easily say it takes place a good deal of time after Lost World.
The canon comics (namely the ones with Infinite and Team Chaotix, perhaps Knuckles as well) also establishes that the start of Sonic Forces wasn't when Eggman's recent scheme actually began.

I'm sure there's a technical/logistical reason why they didn't, but it'd be cute if Tails kept his own "saves" and instead of telling the player to save, he was mentioning that he was making his own save. And then "Tail's Save" could just be a cute way of recontextualizing auto-save backups.
I ADORE the attention to detail in how you voice act the characters. In EWW Battle, your Sonic was based on Drummond, in here and EWW Rivals, it's based on Griffin, and in EWW Colors DS, it's based on Smith. GENIUS!!!

@@psychie8625 Oh so that's what felt weird to me; his Sonic impression always change to a different VA that corresponds to the game, but his Tails impression is always Adventure era Tails.
Which, yea, makes sense, it's the only times he was voiced by boys, so it's easier to do an impression of that than to mimic either of Tails' "modern" VAs (who are both women; although I am personally a fan of both of their work there).

Cant believe no mention of hhow busted Cream the Rabbit is. Cream is an optional character, but is soooooo worth it. One of her abilities restores PP to the entire party, *including cream.* If you upgrade that ability enough, she gets more PP than she uses, so the 8PP cost isnt too bad.
Also, one of the chaos you can randomly get is almost as overpowered as Cream. Ferox removes the touch screen prompts for POW moves, so you cant mess them up. Literally every character benefits from this, but Cream is the best choice, due to the above ability.

I would love to see Shade return like Silver did. Both characters are great characters from bad noncanon games. Yet silver gets to come back but not Shade? Nothing against Silver. I like him but it would be cool if Shade returned in a future game.

Plus Shade was the only good thing to come from chronicles and that’s undeniable personallly despite how bad chronicles was Shade kinda saved it for me plus her boss fight against her in blue ridge zone was kinda difficult cuz she had an absurd Evade rate like some very specific Nocturnus enemies and Echidna Rush Knuckles & Shade’s duo move deals absurd amounts of damage if you equip Shade with the Nocturnus Blade you can get from a shop in the Chron colony in the twilight cage. And I was guilty of assuming Perci in Boom was Shade. When she was first shown with Sticks I believe.

It didn't just fuck over the comics. Sonic's story as a whole got fucked over by that lawsuit. It's the reason all of the sonic characters lost their personalities from this point on and became something like teen titans go.

Sadly, SEGA/Sonic Team mandates what goes into the comics now which is why characters like Shadow are stuck in this "weird" place even when the writers want to develop them further.
So yeah, screw Penders. Sure, we got an amazing IDW series out of it and I love new characters like Tangle and Whisper, and the new villains Dr. Starline and Mimic.
Sonic's story and lore is such a mess.

Poor Shade she will (likely) never appear in another game or any form of Sonic media thanks to Ken throwing a hissy fit and Sega's mandates.
Yet another character that just got thrown away while most of the remaining cast are either cheerleaders, one-dimensional and/or flanderized.
Especially considering that all things considered she doesn't seem half bad as a character.
At least we won't have to see Shade become flanderized.

The Archie Comics ending was actually due to Archie having licensing issues with the Worlds Unite crossover.
Actually I was only talking about the lawsuit and the impact it had on the Archie comic story and characters I dint say anything about it being responsible for it ending the comic before IDW took over I didn't tell you this way back because I kept forgetting

Some days I wonder: is this game even real? It feels like a fever dream. It's like a bizarre flash game where they aged up the characters and made them use dark humor and innuendos.
And then I check to see that yes, it was real.

Apparently Bioware lost the files for the original soundtrack, so we got these midis as a replacement.
Would explain why the opening, final boss, and boss themes sound cleaner than everything else.

I'll say this about this (abysmal) game; the characterization of the respective characters was pretty good compared to the usual.
Well, remember, this game was released in September of 2008, just two months before Sonic Unleashed. That game has what I consider the best characterization of Sonic, tied with Black Knight and Frontiers. So the “usual” at the time was actually pretty good. Then two years later, the usual went to hell in a hand basket.
Hot take: I actually like this game. Finished it, like, 3 or 4 times back in the day.
Same I literally bought a ds lite to play this and a few other games... but you gotta admit, first playthrough kinda sucks considering how few rings you get.

Exactly that. This game was my first Sonic and RPG game I played and I absolutely love it. Back in the day I didn't know English so I skipped most of the dialogues and instead imagined what they would say.
Edit: I was very disappointed when I found out later that it didn't get a sequel. Maybe the game is bad for the most people, but they still should have ended the series.

It was a bit difficult for me to be the first game when I am the same age as Charriii (born in 1996) and I started playing Sonic in 2005.

I think in the Voxai Colony puzzle you have to hit the switches when the floor flashes once, and do nothing if it flashes twice. That sounds incredibly obvious on paper, but in practice it's confusing.
On a side note, I had no idea Tails had that many save reminders. It seems most of them are programmed to not appear if you have saved recently. He's obsessed.

I mean, Ken originally sued Sega because the writer of this game basically wrote the same story he did. Couple that with the poor reception and it is pretty clear why they never let the devteam make a sequel.

@@frostbite_1244 It's generally a long story, but a former Archie Sonic writer by the name of Ken Penders made a copywrite claim against this game for copying content he made for the Archie Comics.
This eventually led to Sega changing up their entire story-telling approach, which has led to the Archie Comics getting a continuity reboot (the comics got cancelled altogether later on because of licensing fees for a big crossover). Because this game was heavily involved, Shade and Imperator Ix were essentially put on a bus.
Penders continues to brag about how he's affected the franchise on his Twitter page, including a recent post saying that he "owns" Shade because of a vague likeness she bares to one of his characters.
The kicker is that this guy is also making his own comic called "The Lara-Su Chronicles", which is essentially a comic featuring Echidnas except their species names have been changed. It even features a Knuckles knock-off called "K'nox". So essentially, he's a bigot and a hypocrite.
The Sonic community has a shared hatred for this man.

This felt like the closest we've ever gotten to a game with an archie storyline, I honestly enjoyed it. Too bad we'll never see a sequel. If it's one thing I feel that this game got right, it was the dialogue. It was just very interesting seeing all of the different dialogue options with the other characters, would have been cool to see it voiced. I'd love to see something similar some day.

“Marauders” is actually the nickname that Tails and the others gave the Nocturnus Clan, because...well...I guess they just didn’t know what else to call them at the time. In their minds, it’s probably just a temporary nickname until they find out what they’re actually called.
Edit: Also, since Tikal basically lives in the Master Emerald, it’s entirely possible that she’s the one who told Knuckles about the story of his ancestors’s war with the Nocturnus Clan, but I admit, this is just me speculating. I mean, she was around back then when it all happened, so she would definitely know how it all played out.
I mean, let’s face it: Knuckles’s family is gone and the only ones who were around back then during the war are Emerl, Chaos and Tikal herself. Emerl fought in the war, but he lost his memory several times over and he’s been destroyed and rebuilt as Gemerl, so he definitely doesn’t remember anything about back then, so, he wouldn’t be able to tell Knuckles anything. Chaos, on the other hand, does remember the war, but he’s antisocial and mute, not to mention that he probably dislikes Echidnas (except for Tikal, obviously), so he probably wouldn’t care enough to tell Knuckles about it. Tikal, however, not only remembers the war, but she actually trusts Knuckles and his friends, so she’s the only one who would actually want to tell Knuckles about the past and whatnot. So, yeah, it had to have been Tikal who told Knuckles about the Nocturnus Clan, because there’s nobody else who could’ve done so or even wanted to do so.
The nocturnas clan is a retcon they weren't mentioned in SA1

Well, no, it’s not really a retcon, because there’s nothing in SA1 that could directly contradict what we see in this game and vice-versa. If anything, it’s more about filling in some story blanks, because even back in SA1, the great war between the Echidna tribes was still mentionned even back then.

No, no, no, you don’t get it. By definition, a retcon is a later modification that is brought to a story that directly changes and contradicts previously established material to modify the story. Sonic Chronicles is NOT a retcon, because it doesn’t directly change anything about the story of SA1. If anything, it adds more stuff to the already established story without changing how it originally was. Sure, the Nocturnus weren’t directly mentionned by name back then, but it WAS mentioned that the Knuckles clan went to war with another, unnamed enemy tribe, which drove them to desperation by seeking the power of the emeralds, which then ended with them getting wiped out by Perfect Chaos. The events of SA1 haven’t been changed or altered. The only difference now is that the enemy tribe, instead of being nameless, now has a name and a story of it’s own. And again, none of it contradicts what has already been established. It just adds more stuff to it, without changing it. Like I said, filling the blanks.
Think of it like this: If SA1 is the story of Knuckles’s tribe, then Sonic Chronicles is the story of the other tribe that was unnamed and unknown until now.

Part of me really wamt them try making an rpg again. However considering Sega seems to be struggling just to make a sonic game that performs well, i wont hold my breath.
Agreed, tbh making a Sonic RPG should be a non-issue thanks to Sega's own experiences (the Phantasy Star franchise) and owning Altus (the JRPG kings behind the Persona franchise).
Too bad Sega is one of the most mismanaged gaming companies out there with it's flagship IP (thanks to a floating island full of issues, that have already been covered in numerous vids across YT).
Tl;dr: Sega US and Sega JP haven't "gotten along" in years.

How i knew shade was gonna be a playable character: All playable characters, regardless of what side theyre on in The battle sequences all have a sleeping pose, Where as other enemies when hit only get the Debuff icon above their modle

Long story short, when he left Archie. He took his characters with him and demanded that Archie pay royalties to use them. And let him handle the writing and story. Archie said no, they own them. He sued them for copyright infringement, and thanks to Archie losing their old contracts. He won that suit.
He also got involved in a suit against Sega claiming they stole his ideas for Knuckle's backstory and history. He didn't win that one, but between that, Sega frustration with Archie and Sega of America over the Comic existing. And the game's poor reception and sales. Sega and Bioware more or less abandoned Sonic Chronicles entirely. The game hasn't been rereleased. And it's safe to say it's no longer canon. Assuming it ever was to begin with.
I feel as though this game's ending could have been used to establish Eggman being in control at the start of Sonic Forces.
Note that Eggman has already made a power grab at the start of that game *before* getting Infinite and his cronies to beat Sonic up. The only issue would be Shade somehow disappearing.

I assume you did the voice overs for most of the characters. They were pretty good, i think Sonic, Robotnik and Knuckles sounded pretty close to how they do in the games the most. You do a pretty good Dr Robotnik. Is it just me that gets annoyed when they refer to super sonic as a separate person. It probably is.

I checked the Wiki and this is true. And I quote, "Throughout the course of the game, the player has the choice to engage in a romantic subplot between Sonic and Amy."
