«When the Lord» is an emotional song/video. Susanne Sundfør composed the soundtrack to the documentary film «Self portrait», which tells the story of one of Norways leading photographers Lene Marie Fossen who suffered from severe aneroxia almost all her life. You can see Susanne holding Lene Maries hand sitting beside her hospital bed in the video.
Lene Marie was only 10 years old when she became ill. She was hung up on the calorie chart and stopped eating certain foods. She wanted to stop the time when she was ten years old. She did not want to grow up, and eventually stopped eating. She denied her body from starting puberty, and struggled with severe anorexia from the age of 13. For the last 7 years of her life, she ate nothing. She drank only nutritional drinks. She died in 2019 at the age of 33. Then she weighed only 17 kg.
The film is a raw and honest insight into her acclaimed photography and her struggle with aneroxia. In her film-project she wanted to «undress» the disease, show it in all its horror. How it is to live with it. Expose the shame, confront the disease, break its rules for survival. She always had an inner glow from which she created, regardless of adversity. She really wanted to live and when she took pictures she forgot that she was sick and felt free. In the documentary we see Lene Marie photographing refugees in Greece.
She managed to see the movie before she died. Together with her parents, she decided that the film should be launched on schedule, it was important for her that her story could mean something to others and maybe help them.

Susanne's songs are often hauntingly beautiful, and totally devastating at the same time, with this song as a great example. PS! The Ø in Sundfør is not pronounced like an O, but rather like the U in fur, or murder. Ø is one of the three Norwegian/Danish letters that most foreigners struggle with. The two others are Æ (pronounced like A in bad, or sad), and Å (pronounced like O in core, or A in stalker).
Susanne Sundfor is a new artist for me. Beautiful. Simply stunning.
I’ve been following Aurora for a while and I have never seen this version. If you haven’t seen Aurora’s HAIK version of Aurora, definitely check it out. It is different and very beautiful. She is introduced to musicians she has not met before and has to practice with before giving a concert to two lucky fans.

My musical tastes are pretty eclectic, but I gravitate towards artists who are struggling and are trying to enter the industry without support from record labels. A lot of times these artists are diamonds in the rough and deserve our support.
Have you checked out Seven Spires? Adrienne Cowen is a diamond alright, not even in the rough, but still somewhat unknown.

Well...First, this is the definition of "Performance Art". Haunting. No doubt emotional. Sad. I think it has to be viewed several times to complete all of the nuances. I'd really like to see the lyrics. Thanks to Tim for the info. Her photography is mesmerizing. Suzanne's voice is ethereal. Next. Aurora. Some people have said "She's from another planet". If true ( I don't think so) but if she is...We have nothing to worry about. Let's all hope there are more like her. She is a musical savant.

Recommend checking out her album "the brothel" which is her breakthrough. A dark album... but soooo beautiful at the same time.
"Silicone veil" is her follow up and contains "white foxes", which is one of my favourites.

Loved your reaction to this beautiful song Susanne wrote for the documentary "Self Portrait" about photographer Lene M. Fossen who battled severe anorexia her entire life (she passed in October 2019). This song is the lead track from Susanne's soundtrack for that documentary. The music on the album is both beautiful and haunting. The documentary is not easy to watch, but the images - especially her black and white photography taken on the Greek island Chios of elderly people and others of Syrian migrant children - are some of the most striking images I have ever seen.
unfortunately i havn't yet seen the documentary. i have asked at different places, like the producers, the norwegian television where i could see the movie, but got no reply
@@soleywolfgangsdottir Try to see if your local library can get it for you. My local library happens to carry a large selection of foreign documentaries at it's main branch, which is how I stumbled across it about some 7 or 8 months ago. I've not seen it offered as a stream online within the US.
@@tdb2012 good idea. the online content is not available in iceland. there are some german and the norwegian television broadcasting stations who have in their media archives, but only for the locals
@@soleywolfgangsdottir You could use a VPN to access those archives. A VPN will anonymize your browsing so the web site wont know where you're from. Just be sure once connected to your VPN that you connect to a server of theirs that's located in the country where the station is located and you'll be seen by their systems as a local.

This unlikely pairing complimented each other perfectly. Her photographs were extremely beautiful. And whatever aliment she has is tragic. Aurora taught herself to sing, play the piano and read sheet music. Here are other suggestions for something new, (instrumental) Lindsey Stirling "Round Table Rivals" and (A Capella) BYU Vocal Point "Beauty And The Beast Medley", and also (acoustic guitar) Alip Ba Ta "My Heart Will Go On" and (electric guitar) "Tina S. This is why i call Susanne Sundfør our secret weapon amongst artists and bands. She showed so much greatness,once she learned to know about Lene Marie Fossen,she bounded with her. She of course made the soundtrack for the documentary about the extremely talented photographer that had photography as her main passion. Who sadly suffered from serious anorexia,and she didnt get better. The newspapers here called it "heartbreakingly beautiful",wich is a perfect way of putting it. Susanne visited Lene Marie on her final hours at the hospital,embraced and comforted her mom,they cried together,talked together.... Susanne is something more then an incredible artist,shes ALOT more! From artists that has collabed with her,they say that she nails every vocal on the first take (but some would take some 50+ more takes,just for braging rights,to have in the vault....and Susanne didnt mind at all) Did you ever hear about the terrorist attacks in Oslo? Susanne got together with Röyksopp days after the news dropped,and they wrote "Running To The Sea". That video is beautiful but emotional,as it portraits a father that lost his daughter in the attacks. Feedback from surviving teenagers at the camp said "we were terrified,we panicked,we ran to the ice cold sea and started swimming....we saw it was too far to swim across,but we felt we had no choice but to escape the shooting from the Island". Thats where "Running To The Sea" got born,highly recommend the video first. Then if still interested,the live version. Just to hear how flawless Susanne sings.
Aurora is our special Angel,thoose 2 together brings something very unique,something different. So it was really nice to add them both up together in 1 reaction.
Aurora is really sharp,a smart young lady still. She told a story once about other classmates in early gradeschool teasing and slightly bullying her,because she scored high on a IQ test. But Aurora was not the quiet type to sit back and take it,so she confronted them why they were laughing at her (and they told her that she was strange)
Then she told us about how she would have imaginary friends as a child,and her parents embraced it and would put on plates for her imaginary friends,instead of go chasing treatment,diagnosis etc. Im sure they noticed it was something there,but it didnt cause theyr daughter harm,so they treated her with more love and understanding because of it. She is really well spoken,she functions a 100% in her everyday life,so they never found it a subject to seek diagnosis. If there is something there? Maybe,but who cares when Aurora is fine with not wanting to know. Thats why i call her a special Angel,because she is one of the sweetest personalities you can come across.

Pictures of Syrian refugees denied in to Europe😭 The woman in the movie sadly died of anorexia😭 Yes I cant stop crying every time I watch it😭
What? The video shown was filmed in Greece, so they were in Europe. They came over from Turkey which is also European! Granted they didn't get to enter Europe beyond, but why should they? The wave of refugees that swept over Europe that year didn't have as many Syrians as you seem to think. There were people from all over the world in that wave, in some cases it was just 30% Syrians. Syrians fleeing war should get protection, but not economic migrants.
@@thomasnorb4077 I know it was filmed in Greece and they are still there. The pics you see in THIS video is Syrian refugees and I was only talking about THIS video if that clears it up for you.
