- Thrill of the fight is nuts. This is a boxing simulator that will give you a hell of a cardio workout and improve your reaction time. This is the game to do it. It is an absolute knockout by Sealost Interactive.
Thrill of the fight offers an impressive 10 opponents line up. Each getting progressively more difficult and each has their own style. Plus there is a difficulty option. If you do manage to be the champ. Try going through the gauntlet again on a more difficult setting. And if that ever becomes too easy. Do what the pros do and get some arm weights. The only limit you have in this game is how willing you are to improve yourself.
The game is based on how fast you can throw a punch, not how much weight you can put behind it. And of course that makes sense. Accelerometers in the controllers will gauge how fast those punches go. Another factor taken into account is where you hit your opponent.
Rounds are a minute thirty. Wins are decided by knock out or TKO. There are 10 rounds per bout. That minute 30 will start feeling like an eternity by the end of your session. If you push yourself too far. You can throw in the towel.
The game does not have multiplayer. But it can be played offline. It pretty much is the ultimate shadowboxing experience.
The devs have also implemented the speed bag, reflex ball, punching bag and a target dummy.
The speed bag and reflex balls feel very gimmicky in VR. I can’t really recommend these modes. Getting a rhythm on the speed bag can’t really happen as the bag can and will phase through your glove. And its similar to the reflex ball. The Quest 3 isnt capable of refreshing fast enough to match the reflex ball speed and dodging just feels clunky.
The punching bag mixed with quest 3 haptics almost tricks the mind into thinking your hitting something solid. But why shadow box a punching bag? Good for the gimmick but you won't be here that much.
And then there’s the dummy. Green lights indicate weak points for opponents. You have your temple, jaw and chin as well as body blows and sternum. Great learning tool and I’m happy the game has this particular feature.
This is shadow boxing without the need for imagination. That right there is such a selling point. There are many opponents of varying skill and difficulty. This may be the best fitness app on the Meta store.
A bonus addition is that you can calibrate your own punches to have the game always calibrate how strong each hit is, virtually pull your punches, make sure every hit is your best hit or max everything for virtual steroids.
There’s endurance mode. Go till you can’t go anymore.
Highly recommended that you play in a large area so that you can move around the ring and get your fancy footwork in.
Price is very fair at $9.99.
And now for a quick rating.
Visuals, 6/10. Nothing flashy going on here.
Difficulty, 10/10. Seriously good luck getting through he game on normal, let alone hard. Let me know how far you went in the comments before losing your first bout.
Enjoyability,10/10 Dark souls difficulty. You want to feel accomplished and improve yourself. Hell ya bro. gameplay loop is locked in. No two bouts are the same and each opponent gets progressively strong. Damn good gameplay design.
Price 9/10, 10 bucks before discounts? That’s damn nice. The amount of exercise you can get out of this app for the low price of a happy meal? The bloody S tier mate.
Overall, 8/10. Thrill of the fight isn’t just about being a fighting video game. It is shadow boxing personified. Is an experience worth having in your library.
