    Thanks a lot, excellent tutorial. I am an advanced Eagle user (my version is 7.6.0), but there are always new things to learn. When you zoom in on the board, I see that the component pads/pins have the name of the signal. How do you do that?

    After I created my polygon for the ground plane, and ran rats nest, my through holes and smd pads that are on ground, didn't auto connect to the ground plane. Any idea what I could of missed?

    • @IlyaMikhelson
      @IlyaMikhelson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some ideas, and I apologize if these are obvious:
      1) Did you label the polygon as the same name as your ground? For example, I name my ground in my schematic GND, and then name the polygon the same.
      2) Are there other components that are blocking the plane from connecting to the components, i.e. is the plane continuous up to the components?
      3) For the SMD pads, do you have the ground plane on both sides (i.e. if your pads are on the bottom, but your plane is only on the top, then you wouldn't expect a connection.
      If these don't help, we can explore further!

    14:35 What you've clicked and the trace is centered automatically on connectors pad ?

    • @IlyaMikhelson
      @IlyaMikhelson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I subtly right-clicked twice, which changed the routing pattern. If you look closely at the top left of the screen, you can see the angle type scroll through twice at that moment. I hope that helps!

    @goffylukusjgs2498 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    does it matter what kind of size the vias are ?

    • @IlyaMikhelson
      @IlyaMikhelson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is an inherent trade-off, since you probably want to make vias as small as possible (to take up less real estate), but there are reasons to not make them too small. First, every manufacturing facility has guidelines on the minimum sizes they are able to produce, so you cannot go smaller than that for a given facility. Also, if you are making something that has to meet stringent electrical requirements, then you again have to be careful. There are useful tools online which you can find if you search something like "via size calculator". However, for most hobby projects using only low-frequency digital signals, you should be fine with the smallest size the manufacturing facility allows. If you start to see unexplained behaviors in your circuit performance, then it is definitely worth revisiting. I hope this helps!
