thank you for this. I am 45 years old, and I have become aware that the Death Mother complex has been actively sabotaging my life for decades. I find myself pushed to a corner now. I am aware that I need to work my way out with the some sort of divine help as well. The information provided in this lecture was very necessary for me to hear and understand, and I am certain that it will play an important part in my recovery journey. Thanks again.
Thanks so much for this wonderful talk -- merely listening, I'm feeling knots loosen deep within -- now nearing 80 yrs, I can reflect open-heartedly on the inner elements still affecting my capacity to live more fully in this latter phase of life's journey. There is much to recognise, welcome, release, and honour here in your presentation -- the myths and images you share add such resonance, as does referring to your own experiences. Your book is on its way to me; looking forward to its nourishment.
I had the privilege of attending the all-day Death Mother Workshop taught by Dr. Maximilla Harris in Asheville, NC on October 29, 2011--it was life-changing. And it is a life-long labor of love to work through the five (5) steps that she outlines: (1) admit denial; (2) accept reality to heal the pain; (3) build internal strength to face the reality; (4) embody the archetype of Perseus to go deeper; and (5) see the transformation by dying to the false life and being born to new life. I truly hope that the Death Mother Workshop appears in a book very soon!
starryperk Thank you, starryperk. Good news: Massimilla and I published a book just a few weeks ago based on the Death Mother workshop materials. Into the Heart of the Feminine: An Archetypal Journey to Renew Strength, Love, and Creativity. If you found value in the Death Mother workshop, this book will surely prove to be valuable to you as well. You can find it here amzn.to/1GXxgvp.
My mother had me kidnapped as a child 2 times. Then when was an adult with a daughter of my own , always would tell me my daughter would be kidnapped. The things disturbed mothers say and is psychological terror. I swear, her disease wanted me dead!
So much pressure on the mother- I so disagree with this- so much missing from this- every mother needs support from husbands and community- support they often are not getting. Why not put the blame onme- husbands- who feel little obligation to emotionally support their women or their children- I'm really tired of everything being on the mother. I've had a challenging relationship with mine but eventually what happened was a bigger picture- of learning how to be able to fulfill my own needs- from the inside out. Life is so full of every type of feeling.. joy, hate, sadness, happiness- what needs to happen is acceptance of the radical imperfection of all relationships- the sooner we can accept our imperfection- we can lower our expectation.
I also disagree with this. She says we must kill the Medusa yet she doesn't talk about the fact that rage and anger and all our intense emotions need healing and love and they must be acknowledged and not killed! If you want to learn the real Medusa and what her lessons are please read the book by Demetra George the dark goddess. It is really great and it will give you a much better understanding of this archetype. the lecturer totally ignores the fact that the Olympians as much as I love them are actually a male-dominated Pantheon and Athena turned Medusa into a gorgon monster whereas Medusa did nothing wrong she was raped she was innocent and Athena did this out of her own anger and rage there for Medusa is actually the shadow aspect of Athena. It is what happens when we ignore our anger and rage. and then what Athena does is give the job to someone else to kill her own shadow! our society wants to make the anger of the woman as destructive and wrong. but even our anger needs to be healed because it causes suffering. it must be integrated not ignored or killed off. anger and rage have lessons as well. what she's teaching is covering up the problem instead of facing it. Medusa was suffering she was alone and isolated not being able to connect with anyone because whoever she looked at turned into stone. She was suffering therefore we cannot kill our suffering we need understanding instead. Also Athena was born out of Zeus's head she is a goddess of thought and intellect. The lecture called Medusa an unkind cruel and cold hearted Beast. it was Athena who was cold hearted and cruel she was the one who turned the innocent Medusa into a monster.
@@MahasTreasurebox Some good points here that I think most women who struggle with rage can relate to. For me, a more fitting analogy might be to subdue vs. kill. I think there may be a misinterpretation that St. George kills the dragon vs. subdues it. The image of the virgin mother holding the infant away from the writhing snake under her feet is a more suitable image for me, subduing that part of us to protect our inviolable innocence from harm. That said, sometimes the compassionate thing to do is kill that which is suffering or brutally destructive and threatening to life itself. Once it is owned and integrated it can be compassionately and routinely "killed" within the endless motif of suffering, death and resurrection.

@@SelfImageStylist Thank you for sharing - beautifully put.
It's not about attributing blame. If you listen from this perspective - well.
@@MahasTreasureboxhow do I integrate rage? Normal releases feel like I’m still not accepting or truly working with it. It feels insufficient
