Interesting indeed. Skeet...you just gave new meaning to cook and rust proof all in one.

It’s very noble of you to risk blowing yourself up so we don’t have to!😅

This was quite interesting. It reminded me of two things: First how I used to run WD40 as a fuel when I was into RC cars and boats decades ago. It worked, albeit not too well. Second thing it reminded me of as a similar alternate fuel test I ran early this past summer. What I found is that as long as the fuel is only comprised of VOCs it'll work well. But if it has any additives (like gasoline does) then it's a no-go. Best test I found was to evaporate some of the intended fuel in a white cup. If there is ANY residue or staining then it's not a good idea to use it. But if it evaporates away fully then it should be fine. For heavier fuels I used a heat gun to speed things up. I've run WD40, varsol/mineral spirits and paint thinner in a stove without any negative effects other than the smell. Some were really unpleasant. But if it really came to the end of the world it's good to know you could fuel up at a paint store.

I use unleaded petrol (gas) in my Soto Muka...works fine and is indicated in the user instructions as a suitable fuel. Runs the same as Shellite (White Gas). It was interesting though to see what really doesn't run in a stove. WD-40 would be expensive...LOL

It burns better than when using A heavy oil as fuel, and is similar to when burning pure spindle oil.

Interesting video. Reminds me of when I tried a different fuel in an alcohol stove. I think it may have been some fuel additive from the dollar stove. I reccall residue left on the stove . Probably had lots of noxious fumes. Not a good choice : )

I never thought about trying that. I imagine that you could refine it a little to make a more efficient fuel. I think I’ve seen someone use a process like that to get white gas from gasoline.

Have you tried the Optimus Polaris pump with an MSR XGK? Imagine being able to simmer using canister fuel on an XGK due to 2 valves during ‘good times’ then switching to reliable use of vehicle fuel in long term emergencies, that would be awesome 🤔

My grandpa always called it. WD-45. Worked at a steel service center and a truck driver came in swore the stuff helped with his arthritis. Good for everything I guess. Thanks for the entertainment Skeet. I'll probably pass on that for fuel though.

@@jiujitsu2000your vid showing the Optimus Polaris pump with the Whisperlite Uni is probably the best combination of qualities in any stove ever…and if the Whisperlite pot supports could fit a small ‘mug’ size pot then it would be perfect.
I would like to see you test and compare them to the Primus Omnilite Ti though with the 350ml bottle the kit comes with! It wouldn’t last anywhere near as along as a MSR Whisperlite using unleaded gasoline but it’s lighter weight and less bulk make it more versatile particularly when used with the silencer made by Primus

A little bit off topic but...I remember in one of your videos you were introducing a van you recently purchased. You were walking us through the interior and you mentioned that you've been watching van life videos lately. Here's an idea for some video content related to van life. You should buy an old beater van and flip it J2K style and make a series of it, then use it for cross country road trips. It would be awesome to see yyou build your very own van life vehicle.

It could probably do with a different nozzle. Smaller, perhaps, made for heavier fuels? I'm not really too sure about that "one nozzle for all fuels" idea.
