Truly tragic. Darragh means black oak. My son works overnight between St Helens and Bolton. It rained forever, but the wind was not fierce. But a lad on the run to Wales saw 2 trucks fall in front of him and managed to miss them, but he doesn't know how. When he was almost home, my son videod a tree fallen on the road. There was enough room for cars to drive around it quite safely.
Not surprised people have got hurt/died. I work for a large UK company that part of the job is driving to multiple different location, no email, no management spoke about taking care or implementing measures to reducing risk during this time. RIP to these people.

A helmet isn’t going to save you if a branch drops on your head. As long as one lane is clear for emergency services the tree should be left until the weather conditions calm, to a safe level. If it is necessary to have to work in these conditions, if both lanes are blocked, there should be 3 workers; one sawing, one taking the debris away and one as a spotter to check for any dangers. Life is a gift, so don’t take it for granted, or let others take you for granted.

Tree fell on the motorway tonight on the m5, hit a BMW x5. Guy seemed ok thankfully, about 15 miles later another big branch landed in the 1st lane almost hit it but luckily was on high alert from the previous tree. The one time where I don’t blame people for driving in the outside lanes away from the trees, did myself afterward.
The sounds are insane over here, we're up on a hill and have a giant eucalyptus tree and a sycamore tree - half of which snapped down weeks ago in a different storm, right in our back garden. I've got three little ones sleeping with me as we speak. Praying we get through it unscathed. 😬

This Storm was on the scale The Michael Fish Storm of 30 years ago. I was in Wales at the time and we were returning by coach to London, and saw the devastation trees uprooted and damage to homes. Yesterday Wales again suffered by flooding in the Brecon beacons area. More Central Govt funding necessary for such emergencies needed.

Loads of people are suffering with this storm it’s crazy for example me an hour ago : I was in my car with my dad and we were driving on the way home, there was this lady in a truck after we had just came up a steep hill with a cliff, and she just wouldn’t reverse, finally after my dad and her talked she reversed, we than used a satnav to do a detour as our road to get home was shut (A377), we went up this massive hill and it was a single track, we got almost all the way to the top and there was a fallen down tree. We then had to reverse for 5 minutes and my dad couldn’t see so he had to have his head out of the window. Finally we got to the bottom of the hill and turned another way, then there was another fallen down tree and it took us 10 minutes to reverse and fine a turning point. We then went ANOTHER way which we became suddenly familiar way, and we got home in 1 piece! Also the A377 had this really bendy tree which was about to collapse and we had to go under it, and there was a tree covering the whole road and there were electrical cables, one of the trees falling into a pole (OOPSIES) so that’s why we couldn’t go that way. And once we got home we realised we had been driving for 2 and a half ours while we also went swimming before for 1 hour and a half! It was quite traumatic for us but atleast we got home!! I hope everyone stays safe out there x
