    In Scotland a solicitor is our name for a lawyer. Just for a moment I had a picture of an aggressive lawyer invading a home demanding to sue someone...

      This would have been a great Monty Python skit. Doorbell rings, person answers the door. And there is either a pompous John Cleese, and unctuous Eric Idle or fast-talking Michael Palin, trying to force the resident to sue somebody.

      Lol. I remember that from the Agatha Christie novels. But yes a solicitor is someone that comes to your house selling something. Our neighborhood has a no soliciting sign but they still come in about once a month. They get blasted on our neighborhood Facebook page and get shut down pretty quickly

      Most child gun accidents occur in your home. Since 2020, the biggest reason for children's deaths is now guns. You're nothing soecial. Studies show kids don't listen, they want to touch and handle them without supervision, they get tempted. The easiest way to remain safe is to teach your kids to not open your doors to any strangers, and not give out personal information at your door or on the phone... or online! Stupid.

      Use or install a peephole in your door. If you don't know who they are, then don't open your locked door. Friends or friends of friends would always call first. Or if a neighbor you don't know got your mail for example, they would leave it at your door if you don't answer. Years ago my house was thoroughly robbed when I was at church with my family. The police caught them, but they had already sold everything they took from our house, including wrapped Christmas presents. So who were they? The men who installed our new carpet two weeks earlier. They worked for a reputable company, but even companies unknowlingly hire thieves.

    This happened to me. They kept coming to my house when I told them I wasn't interested. WHAT'S WORSE? The salespeople were so aggressive they actually opened my closed, latched front gate, walked into my yard, and knocked on my door. I was so fed up that one day, I asked a relative if I could dog-sit his Turkish Kangal (bring the dog to my house) that I helped raise from a pup.
    When the salesperson unlatched my gate, I waited until he walked the 200 feet to knock on my front door when I opened the side door to let the dog out. LET'S JUST SAY IT WASN'T A PRETTY SIGHT. He spent about two days in the hospital, tried to sue me, but lost the case when I showed the judge a picture of the "No Soliciting" sign on the front gate, and the video of him unlatching my gate, walking into my yard, and up to my door.

      "Breaking" is the act of actually breaking in (forcing a lock, breaking a door or window, etc.);
      "Entering" is the act of entering a home without the consent, invitation, or direction of the owner.
      Entering private property in general, without entering a closed door of a residence, is only illegal if the outer perimeter of the property is posted "NO TRESPASSING" (or where you have been otherwise notified by the property owner that you are not welcome on said property).

    I live out in the sticks on property next to my retired mother and father. I drive 110 miles roundtrip to work. Beautiful drive and well worth the money to do so and living where I choose to live. The country is no longer safe. Dad always has a pistol or revolver on his person and something more powerful within easy reach. Whenever I am home, I do the same thing. We are not worried that the Klan will pay use a visit, we are worried about the criminal element operating under the guise as solicitors or people looking for religious converts. I have observed car loads of black youths driving on our private road which is posted no trespassing. Seems like people today act like they own the world and the only thing they own is a EBT card. No respect for the time or property of others.

    One thing I learned growing up in some rough parts of town. If you're going to open your door, open it into your toe and shoulder so you have some weight behind the door. Always keep a hand on the knob/handle in case you need to start pushing the door closed. Helps prevent people from simply pushing their way into your home, and makes them fight for it if they want in.

    A church solicitor came to my door once. My door was open but my screen door was closed, and I was at the far end of the room. She saw me, said "hi!" and then just opened the screen door and proceeded to walk in. I freaked out and yelled at her to get the f*ck out. She was actually surprised and acted offended. I told her you don't just walk into someone's f*cking home...and she accused me of being paranoid. And this was in a busy city. I hope she did it again to someone who owned a gun.

    Doors should be locked at ALL times. If someone rings my doorbell I say nothing and look through my door peephole. If I don't recognize the person I do not open the door. I simply go back to what I was doing. They may ring the bell again but eventually just turn and walk away. NEVER open the door to someone you don't know! They sell security glass doors I got two for my front and back doors. Put a no trespass sign on you front/ back doors, fences and start or your walk way. Legally no soliciting signs are not enough plus people pay $15 to your city that allows them to ignore "No Soliciting" signs. No Trespassing legally negates any solicitors but police, fire, paramedics, city and utility workers doing their jobs are exempt
    Yeah a guy walked in on me and threatened me as I walked in from yard work so I pulled my gun and called police. The guy tried to threaten me but it turned out he had beat and 86 yr old lady on another street. He really did not like the laser on him nor when I cocked the hammer. He targeted me as I am a disabled vet and even admitted it. The officer told him he was lucky to be alive. Now with the security glass outer door it is safer.

    Why does anybody open their door to strangers in the first place? Anybody can push their way into your house once you open that door. You can't live under a rock, you have to face facts, there are thieves roaming most neighborhoods waiting for that one opportunity. Is it worth it? I had a decorative garden gate placed 10 ft from my front door, with a wireless doorbell. The top of that gate has metal points on it, in case anybody thinks they're going to pole vault over the fence. Everybody seems to ignore my ''No Solicitors" sign, so this was my next step, and it was the best thing I added to this house, ever.

    Fun fact: open carrying on your own property is perfectly legal. So is fake blood and death metal music (under certain decimal levels, reference your local laws). So just answer solicitors while covered in fake blood listening to death metal as loud as legally permitted while carrying your favorite no so assault “assault” rifle. I’m sure they won’t be back any time soon. Police have any questions? Well fake blood is legal, music is freedom of speech, legal firearms are legal firearms. In some jurisdictions, soliciting on a property with a no soliciting sign even falls under criminal trespassing

    I can remember years ago. My mom & one of my sister's & me were home. We had just got a black & white tv. My mom was watching something. Sister & me in another room. Some door to door salesman knocked . Mom opened it to see what he wanted. Can't remember what he was selling. Mom said she didn't need or want anything. He started to come in, had his foot blocking door . Mom told him to leave. He came in anyway. He walked over & turned off TV. Sat his case down on coffee table. Opened it & spread a bunch of stuff out he was trying to sell. Mom told him again, she was not interested. Mom was dumbfounded! Sister & me too. I went into the living room. Sister followed. I turned TV back on The guy was getting flustered & was arguing with my mom. My sister & me gathered up everything the guy had out on display. Threw stuff back into his case. Walked to the door and dropped it on sidewalk out front. The guy came out yelling at us. My sister & me ran around back One of us ran to neighbor's house. We had no phone. Called our dad. Mom locked door after he was outside. Wasn't unusual at the time to have the Avon lady, or Fuller Brush guy stop by. This guy was a complete stranger. We had a card with company name & recalled type of car. My dad stopped by police station to make complaint. Company said they didn't have anyone working in our neighborhood. Or that matched his description. So I don't know what he was up to.

    Two days ago, while I was at work, a man claiming to be door to door sales and advertising for a construction company opened the sliding door and entered my home's furnished make-shift foyer (former porch now built-in with new primary glass door) while she (my wife, for those of you that are simply too fkn Dense and need your hand held) was in the restroom. The sliding door is the front door, there is also a doorbell, henceforth unlawful entry. The man (the stranger that entered my home) wanted her personal information, name, phone number, etc. She gave a fake last name and phone number to get rid of him ("Him" being the forementioned idiot that just walked in the house... Duh). She (My wife/the "woman" I married, and I can give the definition as well if need be) is disabled and was very disturbed much less caught off guard.
