  • Launch anything you can think of with the full-auto R0M4 quad-barrel air cannon!
    Major Sergeant Private Major here, demoing the newest in high-powered military grade pneumatic launcher technology! Today we're using it to make a delicious pasta sauce. In addition to it's culinary capabilities, the R0M4 quad launcher features multiple firing modes, adjustable range, and most importantly… FOUR TIMES the capacity of a standard air cannon! Who has time to reload? Just fire again!

    Mark Rober Creative Engineering Course Review:
    • Things I Learned: Mark...
    How to Make A Simple Air Cannon:
    • How to Make a Simple A...
    -------------
    Using an Arduino Nano connected to a wireless Nintendo Wii Nunchuk as a trigger, launch each projectile separately with the tap of a button, fire them in rapid succession by holding the trigger, or flick the “boom” switch and launch all four at once for MAXIMUM POWER.
    This project was what I originally set out to make when I took Mark Rober’s Creative Engineering Course (you can find my video review of it here: • Things I Learned: Mark... ). I ended up running out of time when my class was in session, so I temporarily stopped my build when it was a simple single-tube air cannon (check out my how-to video to make one yourself: • How to Make a Simple A... ). I didn’t lose sight of my goal, though. After learning about power MOSFETs, solenoids, and some clever uses for resistors and diodes, I was finally able to make the air cannon I always wanted!
    Now that this demo video is complete, I'm going to begin working on the how-to video so you too can have the ultimate in air cannon technology at your disposal! Subscribe and hit the bell icon to be notified when that video is complete.
    Enjoy all kinds of messy launches, learn a thing or two about fine dining, and witness the strength of the ever-so-loved superhero, Spider-Man. It’s all here, and delivered in prime Major Sergeant Private Major fashion.

    This is great! I love the sound it makes right after firing.

    • @HardwareUnknown
      @HardwareUnknown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Thank you Mark! The *poonk*, as it's been dubbed, has been a crowd favorite. At first I thought it was a bug that all the air didn't go to propulsion and was instead wasted as extra sound, but it turned out to be a feature by giving the project character. Great tips during your course, by the way. Taking that bit of extra time to add mood music and paint/finish a build really helps complete and sell the overall idea.

    the sound this thing makes after firing is as iconic as the katyusha artillery truck firing its rockets

    • @HardwareUnknown

      It definitely is, I'll tell ya the thing most people notice is the sound and I couldn't be happier that's the case. The slow mo sections sound like a droideka laser volley to me.

    Thank you all for your support, and prepare for many more ridiculous projects like this in the future. Quad cannon how-to video filming begins soon! In the meantime, get your bearings and launch all manner of objects by building your own simple air cannon: th-cam.com/video/NvH9WHNxvj8/w-d-xo.html.
    This project has been a long time coming. I originally set out to make this when I took Mark Rober's Creative Engineering course. I had a lot of fun with it, video review here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/_ELiTSE9Nbs/w-d-xo.html. I ran out of time then, but I still wanted to finish the project. Enjoy!

    Firstly, love the video. One thing I'd recommend is leaning into the sound your cannon makes after firing because it's so unique.

    • @HardwareUnknown
      @HardwareUnknown  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you! At first during the build phase I looked at ways to eliminate the sound. I left it as it was to save time. After all the responses there's no way I'm getting rid of it, it gives the cannon character. Hearing the slow motion at various speeds during editing was a lot of fun so I had to include those in the end scene.

    • @HardwareUnknown

      So glad you noticed, was one of my favorite lines. Several were and asked, and at one point the neighbor's young kid got curious. I gave him my earmuffs and safety glasses, stood him by me safely to the side rear of the cannon, and his face lit up when he got to fire it. Really a special moment. Of course, I performed my tests as quickly as possible and only during midday so as not to disturb people excessively.

      @@HardwareUnknown I think this type of video works well as an introduction to a topic or project, kind of like a show and tell, in combination with a build video work be perfect. Having a theme really keeps it together and cohesive, while still showing off the build enough to keep it interesting, you’ll definitely grow much more if I were to bet.

    • @HardwareUnknown
      @HardwareUnknown  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm truly touched that that's your takeaway, because that's precisely what I was aiming for with this. I love the plethora of maker creations and comedy sketches on TH-cam. One thing I noticed was that so many people do either skits, OR making. I like the creative process of both hardware design and video creation, so I thought why not try the two together. To me it was a lot more fun to show the cannon in character as that added to the demonstration I feel. Plus, showing how it works can be fun to engineers and makers, but doing so in character I think adds that extra bit for non-makers that enjoy the build anyway.
      I received a lot of requests on TikTok for the how to, so this one will be followed by a build video like you suggested. Perhaps that's the key for a lot of my projects. Skit demo, then a how to. I'll keep playing with that concept for a bit. I enjoy it, and I'm glad you and my other viewers seem to as well
