Man amazing job the you do!
And how come the you know Español?
I love the price breakdowns st the end, keeps things and costs realistic.
As a professional tile installer and business owner love the video and anything DIY I think it’s awesome to show people the process. Just wanted to throw a few things I noticed that could help on your next project! For any tile that is longer then 15” you should try to use at least a 1/2” x1/2” towel for better coverage and also like you did back butter the tiles. Love schluter use it on every job, not sure if you did but after you waterproof you should like the thinset cure for a full 24 hours and then do the water test since the Schluter can’t absorb the moisture like cement board it’s good to let that cure. Over all I would do things differently but everything you did was correct and you shouldn’t have a leak! Again just want to help pass some information for your next project, keep killing it!
"I'm running out of projects to do on my own house" -- achievement unlocked.
You’re the reason I started doing projects around my house. In a video you said that you weren’t afraid to fail and that’s why I didn’t do home improvement but those words stuck hit home for me and made me realize that I was more then capable of doing it myself.
Buy a home renovate it and flip it or rent it out, so much content there!
Brilliant!
And now he's doing that :)
Damn, Alex. Your production value for your videos has gotten ridiculously good. You've come such a long way. One of the best home improvement channels on TH-cam.
Looks good.
One bit of tiling advice, make sure you are always combing the ridges perpendicular to the length of the tile not parallel, that allows the air to escape easier for the ridges collapse when you set the tile. Gives a stronger bond with better coverage.
Thanks for the price breakdown 🙌 It is not often when you see that the budget was higher than the actual cost at the end! 😂
Couple notes: the drain grate needs to be tapped down just lower than the tile when setting shwr floor. So water doesn’t pool around drain.
Bullnose tile on outside edges, could’ve been trimmed to line up with main field tile grout lines.
Painters tape is your best friend when using black grout lol
They sell an aerosol can of knockdown texture for patching that ceiling back where it matches existing knockdown. Might be a nice finishing touch.
They make an inexpensive pipe cutter for attaching to drill. You could’ve just cut the 4” and pulled it out to make room for Schluter drain flange.
Just thoughts for the next one. Great video. Good content :)
+1 Pipe cutter
Our new home has that phone booth shower! When I saw it, I thought to myself...there’s a Mr. Build video for this...and Viola!!! We are Build It newbies and hoping we can get to this project one day!
I'm loving the DIY confidence I get from your channel! Thank you!
I'm so glad!
When you're reading info from a prompter for the sponsors, put the text above the camera and it'll look more like you're looking straight into the lens. Great video!
Why does he need to do that when he just records one sentence at a time and clumps them together lol
Great job I really like it. One thing I want to add is these type of tiles do not need to be sealed only the grout.
Grout definitely does need to be sealed because with time water will absorb through the grout and get stuck between the tiles and the water proof membrane. Also it will cause tiles to crack and your grout will grow mold and mildew and start to look unpleasant to the eye.
@@nob.s.renovations8946 Yes sir. Also depending on what kind of sealer you use it should be reapplied accordingly. Another good tip is to keep harsh cleaning products away as these actually just work against the sealant. It may look clean for the moment, but you've just created porous grout. 👍
I like that you “messed up” and gave options on how to fix it. Very realistic I love it.
I can’t wait to be able to say “I’m running out of projects to do at my house.”
We just started renovating our 1927 6 bedroom house and we have a long way to go!
You are def motivating my husband and I to get these projects done!
Thanks for this! Just did a very similar project with the Kerdi Membrane, but used Schluter “All set” mortar for warranty purposes. But if the custom building products mortar works, wish I would gone that way. Would have saved me about $100 😅
I’m a new DIYer for my own home projects and your videos are giving me so many ideas! Thanks!
So funny, just this past weekend I was like “I wish he did a Reno on a small shower”
This is EXACTLY what I am dealing with in my guest bathroom - old, tired shower stall and very little room - thank you for the inspiration!!
Your projects have made me tear down my hallway. And build a guest bathroom I now have my master bath and a guest bathroom. My brother and I are tackling this baby ourselves he lives in LA so I’ve been doing some of the work myself 😂 doing things that I never thought I could! So far worst part I hate is the drywall 😩
Love your content! The break down at the end of the video was nice. I’d like to see the total time took for the project also. It would be interesting to see. We just had the courage to redo the flooring and stairs in the house after Christmas. And to date we are just waiting to install the metal horizontal metal guards. It’s been 4 weeks maybe two full weeks of work.
Thanks! Will do!
Your videos are incredibly inspirational and looking forward to starting my own remodel on my first home purchase. If you get bored or run out of your own projects come over to Portland, love to have your expertise and advise. 🙂
Your videos are awesome. I’m planning bathroom renos in the future. This and your others are awesome. I’ve been researching most of the materials you use before seeing the vids and it’s nice to see them go in.
That's awesome! :) Music is a little bit too loud in parts where it overlaps with your voice and its hard to hear some of the stuff you are trying to explain 🙂
Agree with ItsTom regarding the music. Some parts the music was too loud in regards to your voice. I've noticed it once or twice before in other videos as well.
Yeah this video was horribly edited
Man I wish I had a guy in my town as talented as him to hire
I’m a huge fan of the channel! Was wondering if you ever thought of doing a live weekly show? Something to help us starting DIY’ers some tips and pointers? Love what you do my man! I found passion in fixing things in my home as well and I always check this channel to see if you post anything new to help me. Lol the winterization video was too clutch!! Thank you my good man!
That's a great idea!
Great job Alex! I have a very similar shower and will let you know if I ever update before we move out some day. Need to do about a bajillion other projects first.
I've taken on many projects on my channel. But something about bathrooms in plumbing really scares me. You're amazing at this!!!
This video helped me so much to get an idea for the basement bathroom. I’ll send a before and after how it comes out ☺️
So glad you did one of these! I have a shower like this and want to change it but had no idea how!
I have one of these showers. Been thinking about having a plumber install a new shower base and valve and then tiling it myself. Gonna pay close attention to what you do in this vid.
Your editing on point! And the design choices for the bathroom are fantastic!
I love the problem solving mentality!
Can’t wait to see the rest of the project! I have a small bathroom like this and have been trying piece together ideas. Really exited about this one.
Is an exhaust fan not needed? Why or why not? I'm hoping to doing a basement shower project soon and figured a vent was needed
Great job as always Bud. Congrats on not having anything to do at your house currently (confident that will change soon), & it will be so cool to see you tackling projects for other ppl. Fantastic cost breakdown Bro. Hoping you guys have a Blessed 2021, Dirty Jersey out!!
Great job! Definitely one of my favorite build youtubers!
Love!! I just wish you had put a niche in there for products. Nothing worse than having a small shower and having to put a rack in there or put everything on the ground
Love it, not too gotti and the color is pretty nice too.
Thank you 🙏🏽 looking at re-doing shower stall soon.
The before I would love to have
perfect work, very nice result
quality vid! love this videos for inspiration in my own home renovations
I like the tile selection, but I'm not too keen on the unfinished outer edges. You could of used the Schluter stainless edge trim and it would of looked awesome and clean.
can I just say I like the solution for the speaker system wires in the background. Also, love the shower tiles. Hopefully you can just use a curtain and no door.
Hey, when you run out of projects in your house you can always use mines for your videos 😆
Would love to see more furniture builds too!!
Live and you learn for sure. I had to "pour" my preslope twice because I must not have gotten a good mix the first time and it was cracking. That was painful when I realized that, but doing it right pays off!!
Oh also 3/8 or 1/2 notch would have made the leveling a lot easier on those tiles!
Awesome man! Love your work and most importantly, your attitude!! Keep the great work!!
A little expensive with the schluter system. I always used rubber shower liner and red guard, worked perfectly.
Sick! Great job my man. Keep up the good work.
Learning has occurred! Seems like a good idea to use the Kerdi membrane w/ green board instead of the Kerdi board. I like the idea of just overlapping the membrane 2 inches instead of using the Kerdi band for the seems. Probably keeps the cost down too, I would assume. I didn't catch in the video, how did you fix the drain issue? How well did you match the texture on the ceiling? I have texture all over my house and hate it! Trying to see what best practices are out there before I tear into some of my drywall. Keep up the good work bud!
Super clean look! Love the way it turned out
Thank you!! 😊
Awesome job man, it's awesome to see the costs at the end. Thanks for the content 🙏
It's called a shower curb. Sanded or non-sanded grout also pertains to whether or not the tile is glass, porcelain, or ceramic and if it will scratch -- for example, use non-sanded grout for glass.
Awesome work buddy
Will I ever put a shower in my basement? Eh maybe, don’t have a basement in my apartment though. Will I watch this entire video? Oh you’re damn fuckin right!
As some others have mentioned, the music overpowers the voiceover a bit. Great reno though!! Looks great.
I feel like every project I do, there’s that one thing that comes up that I have to fix. And it usually involves making a mess. 🙄But when it’s done it’s so satisfying.
Loving the clean edges 👍🏻
Part II of the video is ripping out the shower that was just built and starting over!
Another great build.
the music made this video lit good editing
It is looking awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
I love your videos! Keep the amazing work 🛠
From Portugal 🇵🇹
do a video on Modified and Un-Modified thin set. Also one on Sanded and Un-Sanded grout
I see that Benchmade butterfly, you have good taste in knives sir!
Teflon tape is for metal-to-metal pipe thread, not use for plastic pex fittings that have a rubber seal inside, the rubber is the seal, not the threads (future ref) Great video!
Great job man
Nice transformation
Thank you
i love watching your vids to just relax. keep it up !!!
Amazing video thanks 🙏🙏
Auto like bro, thx for video✊🏻 from Russia with love!!! Спасибо!
Not a huge fan myself of the dark tiles in small enclosures but otherwise a great diy!! Love the tips you share aswell
Top como sempre! 👊🏻👊🏻
It's so fun to see what you do! How I wish for a bathroom like that. Looks amazing!
You live and you learn that’s right brother
looks great! keep up the good work man.
So did you put a door up or nah???
Awesome job and WAAAAYYYYY under budget!!!
Hi there I'm big fan of you
From Saudi Arabia❤
Quick tip for next time, schluter sells tile edge trim to cover up the edges of the exposed tile 👍
Great tip!
I know these Schluter sets are trying to make showers easier but their floor kit requires more work than just using 2x4’s for the curb and then building the pan with Portland mix and finally covering it all with red guard. Their wall inset kits are awesome though.
Awesome video!
I thought you can’t use anything under 2x2 for the Schluter pans? Penny tiles cause too much point load on the foam
I believe I heard that from TileCoach.
You can always call Schluter to confirm, but they allow penny tiles on their pans with one exception: no canes/wheelchairs/etc. in shower. Basically, nothing that has a small area point load.
Spanish on point! Gracias por todo.:)
I’m curious, how is the no door working? I have a small bathroom reno coming up and I like this option. Thanks for the content!
When installing the backer board are you putting it flush with the concrete floor or leaving like a 1/4 inch gap? Thanks so much
Can you link the grout sealer? Also how long does the sealer last until it needs to be resealed. Thanks!
You should advertise yourself in the local community to do peoples houses, make money and videos win win
i'm sure he's making a pretty penny from all the great youtube videos. And if a lot of it is DIY, he would have to become a licensed contractor if he's promoting and doing work on others. Even though i'd let him work on my house any day :)
I have a project that he could work on. And I live in his area of Idaho. I'd be all for it.
Any chance you could do an under the cabinet knife storage? Either a drawer type or just a pull down? 🙏🏽
That what I like with your videos you show your mistakes
I wished i made one of those walls with an end to end mirror to give the illusion of more space
use more sealer to take out the streaks that were left behind then use lots of paper towels till it's bone dry.
That's amazing!
Non sanded grout in a wet area is a no no , for future reference👍🏻
I wish you would’ve centered the layout on the walls. It would be more professional looking with tiles looking bigger wrapping the adjacent walls. Also, 12x24 tile need a 1/2 x 1/2 trowel.
Love it 😍
great job!
i think i would have skimmed the whole roof since it wasnt flowing into the rest of the bathroom. would have hidden the change alot better.
