AC Biode was founded in 2019 both in Japan and Europe. The company is involved in the development of the world's first stand-alone AC battery (AC lithium battery) and accompanying circuitry, as well as the development of catalysts for the chemical decomposition of plastic wastes and organic wastes.
Plastic wastes are mixed, dirty, and multi-layered, making material (mechanical) recycling difficult. However, burning them is costly and emits large amounts of CO2. Using the catalyst developed by the company, almost all plastic wastes as well as organic wastes such as lignin and cellulose can be depolymerized into monomers, hydrogen, etc. at 200°C with water as the solvent and without using organic solvents.
CEO Tadashi Kubo has been interested in environmental issues such as air pollution and climate change since he was a student. For 12 years, he worked for a trading company and was responsible for sales and finance of machinery, plants, renewable energy, etc. for Africa and Latin America. After that, he went to the U.K. to study at Cambridge University to obtain an MBA. Then, he founded AC Biode to solve environmental problems from a business perspective. In addition to AC lithium battery, the company has the world's first technology to recycle PET into methanol. The company is also working with Revcell to solve environmental issues by developing a business to adsorb CO2 from the air, solidifies it, and recycles it into glass and other products.
