    I dare ANYONE who's angry to listen to/play this entire song, and not have a (huge?) smile on your face at the end of the song!

    WOW What a find!! I can't believe Bill giving a lesson! A master guitarist showing it how its done and not giving a bunch of BS about pentatonic scales and talking for a half hour between each note! THANK YOU! Perfect, and straight forward!

    "I'm not gonna be there to watch ya....do what ya want" OMG, I laughed out loud on that one. Love his dry humor!

    From the man himself, no less! An iconic lead that we tried to figure out so many years ago but just couldn't quite come up with it. Great to see it done correctly. I always felt like if you get this one down pat you've crossed a line of improvement as a guitar player. This definitely is journeyman level or better material. I've played it 1,000 times but still have a ways to go to make it swing, and Bill does it without a second thought. Respect to ya, brother Bill.

    The Master of the Telecaster

    Yesterday I saw two free shows by the Master of the Telecaster at the Minnesota State Fair. He played all his beautiful country licks in the first set but he came out warmed up in the second set and showed what a country virtuoso looks like.

    "Correctly, or an even number of mistakes." Hilarious!
    Working a dream job at Arlberg Ski Shop. In the back working on bikes when
    Commander Cody came over KMEL with Bill playing a cool lick that has stuck
    with me to this day.

      Maxwell Speedwell Good ol KMEL SFO. Used to be THE rock station, brought their giant inflatable camel everywhere.
      Then one day in the '80's they 'Popped the Camel!' Non stop pop music. I haven't been back there in years, what is it now a 'Classic Rock'- Re-run station?

    When this song first came out decades ago, I thought who was that masked man, what a fantastic lick, dexterity and speed! I had to learn the part. Glad to finally see the original performed.

    Straight from the horse's mouth.
    Commander Cody and the New Riders of the Purple Sage!
    First heard of the band in Colorado ski bumming.
    Years later I got to see them in San Diego.
    Great show. Sounded just like I expected and then some.

    I feel bad because I used to live just down the road from the Ashland Coffee & Tea where Bill played many times and I never made the effort to go see/hear him. What a great riff and also what a cool guy.

  • @5urg3x
    @5urg3x 7 ปีที่แล้ว +83

    This may sound cheesy and old / corny to you if you are a younger player, but I'm telling you -- learn it anyway.
    You will be surprised how these old school licks can be applied to more modern writing / playing and can help you out a lot with improvisation.
    You want to build up a repertoire and be able to learn and play as much as you can, trust me!

      It does NOT sound corny t sounds totally COOL!!

    • @MiSambra
      @MiSambra 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@69erthx1138 I agree completely. As a youngster I always thought "my style" would always be bluesy because I had a quick grasp of bends and blues licks. Years later I love diving into new styles. Wether it be surf or rockabilly or bluegrass or whatever else I get into, it always has reinvigorated my love for guitar and given me a whole new bag of tricks to experiment with.

    • @HillVillageDragon
      @HillVillageDragon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s not cheesy at all! It’s retro, all-American guitar bad-assery at its finest. I started out playing Metal and Hard Rock, but eventually burned out on it after a few years and eventually found my way to Motown, Rockabilly, Blues, 60’s Britpop, and evening some Country stuff. It’s given me a more varied, well-rounded musical voice than many of my peers.

    • @frozendivots1564
      @frozendivots1564 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was a teenager in the 80s and would have laughed at this and played metal. I cheated myself out of this stuff back then. You need to learn these things and once you do you will see things differently. Play all styles of music!!!

    Good. I have been playing it right. He makes it look so easy. It's hard for me to play it at that speed. I can play it faster, but sloppy or slower and accurate. It's hard for me to play at that in-between speed. He's a pro and an excellent guitar player. Seems like a nice guy too.
    UPDATE: I was picking too far away from the bridge. I learned that watching this video. I may still have a chance. lol
