It was so amazing growing up in the 1970s listening to Soul Music made by Soul people for Soul People. We didn't sing about niggas and bitches hating each other back then . Those were the days. :)

For many of us who came of age in the 70s Chaka was our Mystic Queen. Through all the ups and downs her musical contribution is rich and undeniable. She is an Icon and highly respected in the industry, even more so now that she is clean. but nobody ever could deny her mastery at the mike high or not. Not to mention how beutiful she was and is

It was. I feel extremely blessed to have grown up in a time where fun and great music ruled! I now realize how I took for granted that the music of my youth would last forever. But I feel blessed to have bought, watched ( mostly on Soul Train) and danced to. I actually saw this performance. Great times! As I look back I realize that those times were indeed magical

My entire childhood/teenage years were a bittersweet mix. But one thing's for sure: music, especially like this, helped me get through it all and keep my sanity. Chaka was one of those acts (one of the MAIN acts) I gravitated to more often then not. And this tune always lifted and soothed me at the same time. Someone here mentioned her mystique . . . I second that mention!! God bless Yvette Marie♥♀

Absolutely. I have all of the early albums as a band and her early solos. And of course, every live performance I could catch! Kevin's voice was so melodic, they all complemented each other so well. Chaka's two step was all she had to do. Girlfriend was stacked, the men would go nuts when she'd turn around or just walked! Worth it, on vinyl and especially live!

That instrumental break they took in the middle of the song is everything! You could hear someone in the audience yelling out enjoying the groove. Only a good producer can understand how important that brief pause in the singing can be so important in totally making that song work. Just allowing everyone to dance and do their thing with no singing in the middle of a song - brilliant!

Shaka did what was right with her talents as a show woman and a great lead singer...corporate music industries hungered for maximum profit and cared nothing for her talent, love of music and her ability to connect with other musicians. The result was a short recording career that still failed to stop a great singer. Corporate america will destroy art, music and everything else, if given the chance.
