  • In this video I fitted a MIB2 unit with nav and CarPlay, to a MIB1 2014 golf GTI.

Nice video. Way shorter and simpler than mine covering the same upgrade (albeit in a north american version of this car).
Glad to know I was correct in needing to shave the tabs on the connectors and I wasn’t missing anything.

Amazing video definitely doing this 👏 👌. One question whats the part code for the bit you changed?

Hello, great video! I've also done the retrofit on my end. I've acquired an unlocked unit, and while radio and telephone are working fine, the navigation isn't. It worked with the old unit. Do you have any tips on where else I could look? I have VCDS and OBDeleven for programming.

Other than this issue how’s the display? does it have lag or is it as good as it is in the MK7.5?

This is the only video/info I’ve found on how to wire up the usb port without the new harness. Did app connect all work once component protection was removed? Thanks for the video. I’ll be doing this upgrade very soon

Everyone seems to replace the entire cable yeah, but if you can do this insteadfor £6 why bother! I had to get CP removed again as it was locked to my previous golf, but once done everything worked perfectly!

@@demetristavrou yeah exactly what I did. Because of this video I was able to change to usb port for nothing extra other than buying the usb port. Luckily the breaker cut me some of the cable off so I had the connector in the cost. So I did the same thing cp removed and works like it’s supposed to. Thanks for the video

Great video, thank you. Does MIB2 come with CarPlay? I have a 2015 MK7, and, I believe, with MIB1. Is it worth upgrading to MIB2 or going for an aftermarket head unit with CarPlay integrated?

Thank you! I’m pretty sure that all MIB2 units are CarPlay comparable, but you may have to have it activated after. For me it was 100% worth every penny, as I hate aftermarket radios!

Hey man. just want to find out if CarPlay/Android Auto etc worked for you after this retrofitt? Your video cuts off right at the good part

Hey! I was told by the person who fitted it that component protection was removed. Unfortunately it had been re enabled and locked to my previous car, so I had to go and have CP removed again. All working now!

@@demetristavrou Hey just wondering how/where you were able to get the component protection removal done, and enabling carplay? I have a 2.5 MIB and display that I bought out of a wrecked car and keen to get it in.

so no coding and software updated needed in this case or you just cut off the process

Coding is required. He explained that the coding was already completed before the video. That's what he means by "component protection removal" and "carplay activated". However it shows at the end of the video that component protection is still on so he may have to code it again. You will lose functionality with content protection on.

Coding was needed and done. Unfortunately for me, I thought CP had been removed but it had been activated for my previous car, so had to be removed again. Coding was needed to enable radar settings, add GTI logo to startup etc.

I removed them from my old car. They are available on eBay, but you need to find someone who can remove component protection. I know of a guy in Luton who can do this.
