Boost the M3 and the Golf would be bus lengths back. Not too lention the M3 is road racing car not intended for drag racing. It just does well at both. Vw's are just German Honda's. But Honda's are actually fast when built..
My 1.8t dropped an exhaust valve as well, same cylinder as him too. Happened at 180,000 miles after 10 years of daily abuse and 55,000 of that was on a frankenturbo K04 kit, so it held up pretty well in my opinion.
The M3 lost imho 1.8T Ko4 would always win if setup correctly but that owner did not do that at all. He should be sitting at 300hp+ to the actual wheels
E36 has a 3.13:1 differential, versus 3.68:1 for Golf. In the simplest terms: the BMW has more engine RPM, and the wheels spin faster than the Golf at a given engine speed. I've had some Tuned AF Subie's and VW's that could catch up while pushing hardcore boost, and semi-dangerous Revs.... But they were always random jealous dudes, pushing their shitbox too hard, and basically "racing" me when I was just driving my commute. 🤣

Although you should check the coolant sistem that is common to fail, also make shure if it´s a nikasil engine or not, check the second gear that usually is the first one to blow out. Besides that is a rock solid car just take care of them and do the proper manteinance.

@@hugo4587 the only issue that i had was a leaking power steering hose from the reservoir. i replaced the hoses and problem solved. Vanos for now is working perfect.
Yeah the AWP 1.8t is fittted with a K05-053 Stock making it 180hp while the K04 in general is better so he should be exceeding that 180hp. K04 tops out 400hp+ so the resualts in this video makes no sense. Dude is either running really low boost or has a bad tune or just bad supporting mods. The M3 with its 240HP should have been sent gaple bees lol

Hi all n hope you are having a good day. Just got my e36. But engine is shacking a bit. Guy said it might be because of the cheap plugs so the fuel doesnt burn properly. N 1 more con is that bearing at the left rear wheel is making noise . As far as that i didnt find any issues but i will replace whole cooling system anyway. Thank you all mostly @treats on the street
Okay kids pay attention to rule number 1 if you have a Euro FWD car. Slicks or radial drag tires are your only friend from a dig unless you like doing burnouts. Number 2, your est 310LB of TQ on a stage 2 tune is around 1400 rpm so always opt for a rolling 3rd gear run if you want to keep all things moving forward. I guarantee with proper tires and a much cooler day like c'mon 99 degrees is murder to a 1.8T, that said he easily should have smoked more than just his tires.

The K04 can make good power the Volvo guys are making 300hp and close to 350tq. Of course that's on a 2.5 5 cylinder. The biggest problem is the K04 can't operate well over 20psi because it's so small and gets too hot. All the best running Volvos with K04s are running big intercoolers
My Volvo v50 t5 is on 25psi on stock k04 and I made 375whp and it is amazing. I have a second car which is a k04 1.8t and it’s making over 260. I have no idea why this gti lost but something was wrong with it
@@Mazdaspeed_lifestyle I have a 2nd generation C70T5 with upgraded downpipe and tune. Tune is set a little over 17psi. I have stock intercooler. The thing is quick as shit the first few times you floor it after it's warmed up but once heatsoak starts it gets slower quickly. The Intercooler is important with the K04. Too big you will see pressure drop and too smart you want see heatsoak. The tall thin intercoolers work best on the Volvos in my opinion probably the same on the VWs.
@@willriley1619 I have a DO88 Intercooler on my v50 I highly recommend it, it performs amazing, and I have a cts intercooler on my mk4 gti and have had no problems with heat soak. But I definitely agree with your statement 100%

328 isn’t quite the same. It takes some money to make stock m3 power. Cams, exhaust, manifold, tune, probably a M3 diff would help too. A 328 probably would lose to the golf. However, the 328 is still a great car. Its probably better to just turbo or supercharge the 328 m52 if you want real power. Its not easy or cheap to make NA power with the e36.
Justin Tarango my 328is with a bit of work and a tune done to it stays doors with a 95 m3. newer m3s eat me alive though. i can shave some time off with a better transmission because i can’t slam gears because i have nonexistent synchros lmao
i love the car but it’s a work in progress. i need to pretty much redo my m50 manifold swap because i’ve got vacuum leaks out the ass. i need an alignment because i just did poly everything. i also need to figure out something with my dipstick because it keeps shooting it out and making me lose oil
You could use a water sprayer on the intercooler between runs, just get one of those spray thing you use for weed killer and just use it to cool down intake air temps. It's a legit technique used in the pits of race events, for example they do it a lot on formula drift cars.
K03/3s is good low Down boost they run out of steam quick K04 is better makes abit more power around 280/290 if pushed an the k04 holds boost better at the top end Good cheap fun for stock turbos
That golf is basically an S3 with a tune at this point :D No wonder it was that close. 20 psi is a good amount of boost. But I like it how they hold it close to stock for both cars, those engines can both hold around 1000hp easily on a built bottom end. But you don't need ridiculous power to have fun.
this is the shitty k04-001, which is basically a k03s. k03s turbo will safely do 230hp, this k04-001 will do about 245hp, while a real k04 (k04-022 or k04-23) will make 300+ hp. With the real k04 setup and a good tune, a GTI will leave a lightly modded m3 for dead. It will never win off the line tho, even 3rd gear will spin pretty bad.

Thought those 1.8t made 180 block and the older 1.8t from Audi A4 and Passat made the 150 block .
