      Thank you Felix, very kind of you to say so. I would try JNS in Denmark. The prices are high but you should be able to trust his advice.. Good luck

    3:40 I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on lapping a Jnat. I have one on the way to me that has scratch marks along the length. I don't know how bad from the pictures but it'll need lapping when I get it. I've lapped shaptons before but you can lap them until they're wafers, with the Jnat (as they're natural) I'd like to hear if there's anything I'd need to watch out for.

      Hi TWalsh.. All stones dish so lapping is a must although i hear off ppl who rarely lap their jnats. If i'm not HHT-ing center of the blade it's time to lap the jnat. .. I use my Shapton Diamond Plate to lap my jnats and then use a DMT diamond plate to round the edges. Then i rub a Tomo Nagura over the jnat for as long as i can be bothered .. Final step is to take a blade with no tape and slowly hone with and without torque feeling for anomalies. If i find any i use a DMT card on that area then Tomo Nagura the stone again ... I would lap a new stone but i wouldn't worry about long thin scratch marks if they are from a hard tomo.. I like to seal my stones and then epoxy any holes or jagged bits..I hope this helps..Thanks...Joseph..

      This is the stone I'm expecting. It's a pity I'll have to loose the stamps but it looks like it'll need some serious work, I'll know more where I see it in person.

      The seller has very good feedback and lots of it. I've downloaded all the pictures and examined them in detail. If that stone turns up, and I've no reason to think it won't, I should be fine. Thanks again.

    Joseph, great and very clear video, thanks! Question (from a JNAT relative newcomer): how did you choose your tomo for your stone? And would slurry from the base stone created with a diamond hone (e.g. Atoma 1,200) achieve the same result? TIA.

    • @EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors
      @EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't believe in choosing Tomo's. All mine work well.
      Maybe people who get bad results blame the tomo? I'm guessing , maybe? Yes I would slurry from the base stone with a worn 1200 or you can buy those little extra fine cards on the bay.
      Cheers

    Thank you for demonstrating and explaining the different slurry stones, but very confused on two on the stone used and what you said at the end,
    Firstly you say the honing stone does not like just honing with water so is the slurry from the different stones that hone the razor not the main honing stone,
    Secondly you say no need to check for microchips to the blade etc because your using the natural stone ,
    I always believed synthetic stone have the same particles and no inclusions and Natural stones are the ones that have different particles and impurities and are more acceptable to cause chips to a blade ,But you seem to have a different view on this,
    Are you just going by knowing your stone,

    • @EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors
      @EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, not sure what your saying but jnats seem to heal an edge where as a synthetic stone destroys an edge, so to speak, in my opinion ..Thanks

    • @piecetoyou8285
      @piecetoyou8285 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors I do agree with the jnets give a finer edge than synthetic but synthetic is less lightly to have impurities like odd minute unwanted particle in the stone that can chip an edge,
      That's why the word natural is not man made` and without an x-ray machine you never can fully guarantee that a natural stone does not have unwanted particles lying in wait to catch the edge of a razor out and damage it ,Man made stones from a reputable company know there size particles and very rare is there unwanted particle in them waiting to damage the edge of the blade, So what I was trying to say when you said at the end of your video on a synthetic you might have to look for false edges and micro chips but with your natural stone you don`t have to worry about that, I`ve Never had any damage from a man made stone in the 20 odd years using them, that`s from my own experience but probably not every ones,
      I just thought it was quite funny you made that assumption about synthetic and Natural,
      As you know Natural stones are only as good from what the eye can see, you could test a natural by breaking it but 1mm to the left or right of that break could be a hidden unwanted practical, this is more likely to happen with the natural stone rather than a synthetic, So I guess the remarks you made near the end of the video is on your experience with that particular stone so far,
      I am not trying to put you down as I appreciate every one that does take the time to show video`s on a subject then respect to you all. I just thought that people who may be new to the game would get the wrong impression about a Natural to the synthetic, And that`s only my opinion just like you have your own opinion.
      I hope this made more sense I think one thing but never comes out correctly in my explanations

      @@piecetoyou8285 Hi piece..I will explain why i said i do not need to check a natural edge..
      I can hone on synthetic stones for a customer but i would have to shave test that edge ,i could not rely on just a HHT.
      If however i perform a full nagura progression on a jnat and the edge passes the HHT then i would not have to test that edge, i could rely on the fact that it will shave well. Hence i do not shave test my edges of jnats..
      As for unwanted particles from a jnat, i have never had any..Only maybe once per year i might get a large grain from a Nagura which is felt and discarded immediately..If you lap and treat your jnat correctly the surface should be perfect. Although i only have experience with expensive stones..
      Many thanks

    Why are you using tape? It's making more obtuse angle on a hollow straight razor in favor of a no spine wear. Longer you hone with tape. The more obtuse angle will be. Because hollow straight razors designed to wear on a two points - spine and bevel to keep the same angle. Can you please counterpoint this theory? I really want to know your opinion about "tape vs no tape".

    • @EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors
      @EdgeDynamicsEnglishRazors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Yogg.. To protect the spine from ugly hone wear. You would have to remove 1/16ths of the edge to alter the bevel angle by one degree..
