Thank you so much for this video...my husband died 2 years ago.and not having funds to hire someone to do repairs I was able to do this on my own. So between him making me assist on projects and teaching me about tools and your instructional video I installed the glass and it looks so professional.

Thank you ! Thank you ! Thank you ! I have 2 broken windows in my mobile home and the local glass company wanted to charge me $90.00 for each window replacement . I watched your video and went to Lowes bought the glass and the other things I needed and replaced the windows myself . That may not seem such a huge thing to most but I am a disabled woman and have no one who can help me with any home repairs or anything that needs replacing . I am so happy that I found your video .

Hey Tammy...I found the greatest company called swisco (www.swisco.com) If you have any door, window or other little things that need replacing.. You cam send them pictures and measurements of the broken pieces and they will suggest the new piece that will work, no matter what the brand or age of the part !! Cost me less than $20 to replace broken window pieces where HD wanted $300 for a new window.. I'm a small disabled woman, and love this company's help

Maybe things have changed in the last few years, but i went to both Lowes and Home Depot, and I couldn't find the strips. Asked around and no one knew what I was talking about (but of course). Ended up just putting the glass in with "window glazing caulk" which was like $5 and I think it was Latex based but can't remember. Ran my finger over it, and it ended up looking pretty good. Found plenty online searching for vinyl bead glazing strips, but didn't wanna wait.

I asked a local glass shop about the possibility of using Lucite S-A-R or similar in an aluminum frame sliding glass door and was flatly told it won't work, because the plastic expands and contracts far more than glass with temperature changes, going from binding and bowing at high temperature to being so loose at low temperature that it could fall out of the frame. Also, a strong impact that would break glass might not break the plastic, but it could flex a large sheet enough to pop out of the frame, precisely what one would _not_ want for security reasons. Plastic glazing only works for small panes or on frames that have been specifically designed for plastic glazing.

What do you suggest would be the best way to clean it? Right now all the glass is removed, only thing left is a film of dust. My idea was maybe a 3/16" wide brass wire brush, that would make the channel shine perfectly or just use a rag, alcohol & flat head screwdriver! The silicone, i plan on making a 1/8 bead all the way around hopefully in the center so it will spread on both sides. From the looks of it, its mostly so it doesnt vibrate inside the frame.

Its hard to see what happens with the silicone when you put the vinyl strip on? I have an old house with alluminum windows, and the strips are deteriorating, and I need to see with more detail. So te silicone is only applied on the outside, then the vinyl gets pushed into the silicone?

Its a 2 track aluminum storm window thats on the interior side of a mobile home! The track that the window sits in is level all the way around....(One side doesnt stick out further then the other) The track is 1/4" thick....The frame is really flimsy....I took it out of the big frame in order to replace the glass...I was thinking about taking out the top corners, run a bead of rubber silicone all around the track & then replace the glass & install back into window frame! Would that work?

I'm sorry but this is not the right way to replace the glass. The glass should always be removed first. With a glass cutter he should have cut smaller slices in the glass and then it can easily be removed from the frame. In cases where the glass has been hot glued a heat gun is used on the inside frame of the window to heat up the glue and then again the glass is easily removed.
The strips are not sold at Home Depot or at least not here in Florida. Had he done the way I mentioned 9 out of 10 times the strips can be reused

This video no longer helps the average DIY homeowner because they stopped selling these snap-in vinyl glazing beads at brick-and-mortar hardware stores. I think the reason is that the dimensions and shape of the beads are as varied as automobile tires. There is no one-size-fits-all and it's costly to stock every type. My solution was to use Window Glazing Compound or putty such as Dap 33. There's another one made by UGL called Glasol, both are available at HD, Lowes and Ace's and you can use them for metal or wood sashes.
