To be honest I think that was sort of the point of Bill's style. He wasn't someone you could immediately pin down but once you caught on to what he was doing it became a joy to watch.
To those who say he repeats his jokes too much, stop pressing the replay button :P Seriously though I know just what you mean, but I think we're looking at it from a current day perspective of stand up comedy, not the material itself but how the pervasiveness of the internet has pushed stand up comedians to continually produce much more material to stay current because their back catalogue is so readily available online from streaming services.
i get it, they are using the internet and the 24 hour news cycle as a reference. These shows were seen by the same person more than once ONLY if they recorded it or had it on tape. So, if a joke did really well, why only tell it to one show of 40 people? There was no internet then, people.
People don't realize comedians aren't an infinite supply of jokes. They write up their bits and go from place to place to perform them. How come nobody screams at musicians that they only play the same 30 or so songs?
You couldn’t do research like you can today with the internet. You can listen to different voices and pick up on very small details. Amazing. The more you know xo

He did a pretty decent job of pulling off one of his usual sets with all the swearing taken out, which can be very hit and miss. Sometimes the right curse words can make all the difference to the impact. This worked well - the only line that didn't quite work as well in my opinion was the "looking around the world in which we live and shutting your mouth" line, which is much funnier when he says "shutting your fucking mouth". RIP Bill.
Comments about the bad 'British' crowd. It's not a tour gig, it's a little TV show & there's about 14 people watching. They love him. He killed it. He played in Britain all the time, they loved him. He could barely get a gig in his own country. Too honest.

I worked with Bill and Rodney Dangerfield at the opening of Rodney's Place in Las Vegas in january of 1991. Some of that material and his trips to Uk coincide with the date on the video. He was a great comic glad you found this.

For sure, comedians have this unwritten rule of being able to tell you the truth about things with an absolute bluntness that 'ordinary' people would get chastised for. To get the rawness and truth that Bill Hicks expressed you'll need to listen to a bunch of current day comedians. Reminds me of a quote of his where he stated he would need a very special woman to satisfy his needs, or a bunch of average ones.

That's not true. Bill toured extensively in the US and pretty much lived on the road. Try reading some of the biographies on him. Peace.

Bill Hicks, was not funny. He was a pretty good at social commentary, but he was a dour angry man. Not in the funny Kinison angry man way; just angry -- and frankly not much fun to watch. That being said Leary did lift his whole act and make it his own, douche-baggery at it's best.
