Man.... X-Files was this huge chunk of my childhood... My family would sit in front of the tv in the 90's and be mesmerized by each week... Now that my older brother and folks are gone, it's a fond memory I can hold on to, memories of being a kid with my entire family all in one room
Californication is ageless …. It taught me so much about life…. It can take anybody on a inner journey….. thanks to David for portraying it in a aesthetic manner… God he is one of the most talented actors ever born …. I have seen Californication multiple times…. lots of love to you David ❤
I'm not sure why, but they overlooked Duchovny's magnificent performance in the 1991 masterpiece 'Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead'. His outstandingly moving performance as 'Bruce' was an absolute triumph, and perhaps the greatest characterisation that has ever graced the screen. It is undoubtedly the pinnacle of his career, showcasing - flawlessly - his immense talent, and should be accorded the recognition it deserves. The fact that he didn't receive more accolades for the masterclass he displayed is nothing short of shameful, and Vanity Fair did him a savage disservice by omitting any mention of it.
I was also amused that they left out The Red Shoe Diaries. My best friend had a huge crush on DD in high school so I had the unfortunate experience of watching the movie and many episodes of the show.
Seriously. Season 10 was a little meh, but season 11 really stepped up and I think was the best season since season 7. Unfortunately the ratings on the last season were the worst in the shows history so we probably won't be getting anymore X Files episodes. There are however a bunch of X Files comic's that carry on with the story where it left off, and I think they hold up as good as the show
X-files is one of the greatest shows out there yet it feels so underrated and forgotten about compared to the other great shows...the sopranos, the wire etc X-files was ahead of the times
Absolutely brilliant actor. Special thanks for making Californication. It was a breath of fresh air and worth watching multiple times. There are not many TV series I will rewatch every now and then for the rest of my life but Califronication is definitely one of those few.
Californication might always be my favorite show of all time. When I discovered it, it just felt different, and special. It was real, funny, and still hit you deep in the feels. The music in that show is unbelievable too. Just so good I've never seen anything quite like it.
Watching the X-Files right now because I somehow missed it growing up. It is absolutely incredible. The world building has so much care to it and of course Mulder and Scully are amazing.
Great- a very underrated actor. Subtle. Loved Californication. The first episode had me thinking I was in for a lewd, immature series, but I stuck with it and found it had so much more to offer. The whole cast were great.
Return to Me with Minnie Driver was my favorite movie of his after his stint with the X-Files. Yes, it's a total rom-com, but the actors that play Minnie Drivers family in the movie, in the Italian restaurant made it such an easy watch. Check it out if you haven't seen it.
Return to Me... a RomCom? Isn't that the one where his wife and daughter swap bodies after a car accident and their their daughter dies in the wife's body? I felt like that was more a strange sci-fi drama then a comedy!
Evolution (2001) directed by Ivan Reitman, and co-starring Orlando Jones, Julianne Moore and Sean William Scott definitely should've been included here.
Aquarius was great. I really wish they could've kept going. Such a bummer they didn't get to tell the rest of the story. I feel like it was just starting to get really interesting. Just imagine the court scenes and the investigation. Could've been a really cool take on the Manson story.
So many fond memories of DD. After serious roles like X files I really loved him in Zoolander, such a satirical but earthly role. I didn't care movie or TV, I loved the quality and he's always delivered. Even if he was not appreciating it the moment and thinking "what's next", I was. I can always look back and relive the roles he chose to give life to so thanks for that.
Dude is a legend. Californcation was a really enjoyable show. I watched it multiple times
Eddie Nero is still the most entertaining character Rob Lowe ever got to play, at least judging by screen time per laugh / WTF moment.

Respect! Great actor. Loved his chemistry with Gillian Anderson.
Californication is ageless …. It taught me so much about life…. It can take anybody on a inner journey….. thanks to David for portraying it in a aesthetic manner… God he is one of the most talented actors ever born …. I have seen Californication multiple times…. lots of love to you David ❤
Men of culture. Writer, Actor, Singer at the same time. High quality life.

Love this video! Thank you Vanity Fair and David Duchovny!
You were fabulous in Californication!! Really....
There are some of these oddly beautiful regrets he shares that make him endearing.
No Red Shoe Diaries?😁 Actually, I would have liked to see them discuss "Return to Me" one of the few old school RomComs I ever really liked.
He was great on the Larry Sanders show . RIP Garry Shandling , sorely missed.
Duchovny is the epitome and definition of the actor that hasn't played that many roles... But the few ones he played truly made history. ❤️🎥
He was awesome in Californication, he was super quick with the wit part of it. Great writing and execution.
X-Files is a classic and ageless - never gets old
I'm not sure why, but they overlooked Duchovny's magnificent performance in the 1991 masterpiece 'Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead'.
Park it yourself, Metallica-breath.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was also amused that they left out The Red Shoe Diaries. My best friend had a huge crush on DD in high school so I had the unfortunate experience of watching the movie and many episodes of the show.
I agree with him on aquarius. That show would have thrived on Netflix and a couple more seasons it was a great show
I liked him in Evolution.
Fruit basket for Russell Woodman.
X-Files Forever!
Man, I wish we'd get more X-Files seasons with Mulder and Scully.
Said the same thing. A few more 6 episode seasons are ok with me
@@robd1329 Me too. Is ok to be a short season as long as we get more new episodes. I feel like 6 episodes per year would be good enough.
Seriously. Season 10 was a little meh, but season 11 really stepped up and I think was the best season since season 7. Unfortunately the ratings on the last season were the worst in the shows history so we probably won't be getting anymore X Files episodes. There are however a bunch of X Files comic's that carry on with the story where it left off, and I think they hold up as good as the show
I'm very glad Vanity Fair invited David Duchovny to break down his career ; what a surprise!
He was my childhood idol with X Files. Amazing!! I even tried to copy his style back then.
Duchovny is a legend
Great- a very underrated actor. Subtle. Loved Californication. The first episode had me thinking I was in for a lewd, immature series, but I stuck with it and found it had so much more to offer. The whole cast were great.
I love David and Gillian, I love them. I alwalys watching X FILES
Return to Me with Minnie Driver was my favorite movie of his after his stint with the X-Files. Yes, it's a total rom-com, but the actors that play Minnie Drivers family in the movie, in the Italian restaurant made it such an easy watch.
Check it out if you haven't seen it.
That's a good flick!
Agree great cast! Actually came here wondering what he’s up to as I’m watching it now
Return to Me... a RomCom? Isn't that the one where his wife and daughter swap bodies after a car accident and their their daughter dies in the wife's body? I felt like that was more a strange sci-fi drama then a comedy!
Love you David then, now and forever 😍😍😍
i love this actor his characters are 80s and 90s icons
It always cracks me up to see him in *Dont Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead* whenever I go back and revisit it ..
I though I was the only one that remember him in that one. By the way, I love that movie. A good light cute fashion comedy
this guy's a legend!and the role in californication fitted him like a glove,he was born to be hank moody!so natural ...
Hank Moody in the present day
Bring this man back for more movies or shows and a spot in the mcu or dceu
That would be soooooo cooooolllll
Californication is my favorite TV show. It's hard to find something similar with a cool protagonist with smooth lines. For me it was his best role.
