Yes, particularly a Rafter square with the numbers for figuring out the lengths of rafters. Carpenters used them back in the day for figuring it out. 👍 great video
Not what you asked, but how about finding the angels on a double beveled board or beam. Also, framing square: yes. Thanks for all your usefull vids man, theyre awesome.
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos dude. I’m not in the trades, just a D-I-Y guy and I really enjoy watching these and learning. I appreciate it man.
Just started a drywall repair business. Love your videos. Love the look of that night eye! Could use a new tape just like that. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge with the world.
Fantastic Vid Matt! The mysteries of the speed SQ explained in an easy concise way. I never had to use it for roofs due to only using Eng trusses in my past but now I know. U the Man! Cheers 🍻
Stanley tapes are the way to go. I love the classic Stanley PowerLock tape, but it doesn't reach far before breaking and that's where the Stanley FatMax comes in handy. Larry Haun seemed to use the Stanley PowerLock tape with no issues though.
Open an academy bud, 10 weeks, push young Americans into the workforce who can read a tape, run a saw, understand square & plumb, how to navigate prints & then learn fundamentals of framing & carpentry. You’re already a force for better big dog. Just a thought.
Love the videos Matt! Been watching for awhile now you’ve taught me a lot since I’ve got my framing Job about a year ago! Wouldn’t mind a new tape measure to try out I broke 2 Milwaukee tapes yesterday when I was framing the blades ripped off on me from Utah would love a tape that is good in the snow
I actually am in the market for a new tape my fat max is about to retire, I do windows, doors, a little framing, and finish carpentry. I have been considering trying that square as well.
Husky makes a square pretty much identical. It's black with easier to read markings at your local hd. It use to be half the price of that one but it's still cheaper from what I've seen. Better yet if you break it take it back in store and get it replaced right there no phone calls or emails.
Yea when I got mine when it came out husky was 12 bucks crescent was 25. I'd almost spend more on the husky just for the sake of instant warranty replacements and a more pleasing color scheme. Much better to read white on black instead of Grey. No worries it's personal preference and giving people options.
I’m an electrician and the niteeye started off great but after 2 days it started sticking real bad and won’t roll up or I’d have to pull it real hard to pull the tape out. Maybe I got a dud, idk I hope Lowe’s warranties it
Should we cover a framing square next? Talk about stair gauges and roof framing? Let me know!

Yes!
Yeah probably 😂 we all know I need that one.

This is beautiful, I'm a self taught carpenter who stays in Namibia. I love this and I would like to learn more.
Useful vid, my work mostly involves carpentry but we also handle electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting, finish work lol. Never boring!
Love the vids Matt! Former journeyman paperhanger who is now building a home and in a new trade.
Hey man great video. I am a retired pipe fitter. I carried a fat max 30 ever since they first came out and have loved having that 13’ stand out.

Really great video. You're a good teacher.
Awesome video bro!🙏🏼
Could you make a video about how you read a joist layout plan, and explain how to layout based off the plan? Love your videos
That was helpful, thanks.
Great video! Union carpenter apprentice here :)
Nice video my friend
Great video
This is a great video. Just sent this to my electrician son. Do you have a hip and valley video?
Thx Matt.👍
I am a beginning plumbing apprentice looking to know what the best speed square and tape measure would be to be as efficient as I can be on the job?

7:01 Pythagoras is rolling in his grave, Matt!
Im a flooring installer and have always used stanley tape measures never really tried any other brand.
I think I will have my wife buy me a new framing square for Christmas I would love start framing.

Just checked home depot and home depot carries both. Husky one is more expensive.

First year capentry and I gotta say all I’ve bought have been Milwaukee and they always peel I have like a 3 piece tape at this point😂😂😂

Good vid. Framer here too
Local 6 laborer 🤙🏽🇺🇸
CONCRETE CARPENTER OUT OF 405 Union in San Jose ca !!
Easy ass tool to understand
I'm glad you understand it - 90% of framers I've built with still have trouble with stuff.
@ yeah kinda crazy I’m 16 and I’m in a trade school, seems insanely simply , but no one taught them how to use it
Does your nailgun know you’re wearing that shirt?
He's a equal opportunity tool cheater. Many loves in life 😆

Oof. Maybe. I prefer them over Lowe’s.
I'm late to the party but I made it
✌️👍
Use a speed square if you want to be a rough framer
Use mathematics if you want to be accurate
There’s very rarely a case where 1/8” or closer won’t work in framing.
U gonna stop usin hitachi framin guns now that ur sponsored by paslode?
I think I’d rather hand drive every nail than use a Paslode. 😂 They’ve got some pretty garbage guns..
I just liked the shirt.
