    Making a film is hard work, and one of the toughest tasks a director has is editing. Taking all the footage he or she shot, the filmmaker must piece together a coherent film that entertains and thrills audiences. And sometimes, that means sacrificing a great scene that may have made the final product even more rewarding if the running time didn’t dictate otherwise. Here are Screen Rant’s 10 Deleted Scenes That Should Have Made the Final Cut

    There's a deleted scene from batman begins which shows Bruce putting a voice modulator in his suit. If that HADNT been deleted it would have saved several years of people saying "why does batman sound like he has throat cancer"

      Jose Martinez That would mean you have 2 movies on 1 disc, which isn't really possible editing/publishing wise. Nice idea though but sadly we can't do it, unless it's in digital form only.

    • @leotheking1000
      @leotheking1000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, i thought he died in the two towers.
      In the 3rd one I think gandalf vs the lichking was of more importance, as one could understand sauromans defeat, while in gandalf scene it was shown, that he is not invincible.
      Before he defeated every enemy without any problems shown to the audience. Sure balrog was hard, but w/e, gandalf is a badass who can't loose :P

    • @mikeyspikeyb
      @mikeyspikeyb 9 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      leotheking1000 he dies in the deleted scene at the start of ROTK, where aragorn and co. go to isengard after helms deep, it also explains how sarumans palantir magically ended up out of orthanc for pippin to pick up. I too think the witch king and gandalf in ROTK was a important scene tbh, without the scene you wouldnt know that gandalfs staff has been broken by the witch king and thats why he doesnt have it at the battle of the black gate.

      ultimateblaze23 did you also happen to look at quicksilvers, and whoever else that was in the trailer? cause they were sporting the leather outfits. Also days of future past... acdc14terrace I actually didn't like Loki at all, I loved the actor and I think he portrayed it perfectly but I still didn't like how underwhelming Loki felt sometimes. I only like Ultron and Red Scull because I love both of those actors so much and I think they did a great job! If I had to choose my favorite MCU villain it would be hands down KingPin. His character felt developed, purposed, emotional, logical, and all out great. But hey that's just MCU villains if I had to choose my top favorite villains of all time, all of Batman's villains (with Joker at #1 of course) would be at the top of that list.

  • @EthalaRide
    @EthalaRide 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I think the deleted scene from the beginning of Thor, where the two brothers share a bonding moment before Thor's coronation, while also foreshadowing Loki's discontent helps bring depth to both characters as well as development. Seeing it all fall apart, and helping explain why Thor wants his old brother back so bad after all the horrible stuff he's done.

    sometimes I feel like editing is making things more complicated and unclear... e.g. the waitress thing in the Avengers... Why does Marvel cut scenes, all scenes to a Movie such as, are important

    • @kirstywaters6854
      @kirstywaters6854 9 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Virtually every film made has cut scenes, as it's impossible to tell exactly how something is going to translate into film until it has actually been made... Best to shoot extra and cut rather than potentially leave a story underwhelming from the off?

    • @AndrewPRoberts
      @AndrewPRoberts 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes Im Going To Be That Guy It's mostly about pacing, really. If a film feels like it's too long or if the pacing isn't fast enough, or even if a scene doesn't really fit the overall tone and doesn't add anything significant to the story then they sacrifice them

    • @ultimateblaze23
      @ultimateblaze23 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kirsty Waters yes, exactly and with blockbuster films the quiet moments are very suspect to be cut,

    The yellow Wolverine outfit does look pretty sweet, but I agree that it isn't necessary really. Especially with the colour. However in am X-Men reboot, I'd like to see Logan's X-Force outfit.

    • @ultimategameplay1
      @ultimategameplay1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think there is going to be a reboot any time soon due to the fact that Jackman hinted at old man Logan and there is a new xmen coming oit

    • @redluca56
      @redluca56 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ultimategameplay1 I meant after that. After Apocalypse and Wolverine 3, I think they should reboot the franchise.

    • @darrenmacqueen9884
      @darrenmacqueen9884 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Luca Munro I only want it rebooted if it's being added to the MCU. If the rights can go back to Marvel, then yes reboot it with less of a focus on Wolverine. There are plenty of other characters that also deserve attention. They don't even need to introduce Wolverine until the 2nd or third movie.
      I would love an X-Men Netflix series honestly. This can make it easier to flesh out all the X-Men.

    • @redluca56
      @redluca56 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Darren MacQueen My concern is that they can't really go on until they are back at square one and having to surrender all the characters that are the main cash turn ins for the X-Men franchise. They'll have to reboot it completely at one point. One thing you can maybe help me with, I'm trying to think of Logan's motivation to wear the mask styled like the one we saw in The Wolverine deleted scene. What was the reason he got the outfit in that and what reason would call for Logan to wear an outfit like that, like what I suggested, having his outfit in X-Force colours.

    • @darrenmacqueen9884
      @darrenmacqueen9884 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luca Munro Unless he is part of a team or trying to conceal his identity, there is little reason for him to switch to it in the X-Men movie universe we saw so far. If they do reboot it, I would like to see them use something similar to the costumes used in the Ultimate comics anyway. The X-Men costumes should look more like a uniform in my opinion. Most of the costumes are not practical for concealing their identities anyway so it's always been hard to imagine Logan choosing that particular costume. It's iconic and a big part of my childhood, but it's not very believable. The MCU seems to be taking a lot of inspiration from the Ultimate universe anyway, so I can see them going in that direction.
      And you may be right, it could be difficult to keep the series going with major characters like Wolverine leaving. But I honestly don't want Fox to reboot it. I don't want to see it rebooted unless it's going to be included in the MCU. There's no other reason to reboot it that quickly.

    The thing that doesn't make any sense about Nero from Star Trek is if he went back in time and had been in a Klingon prison for 20 years. First, it seems like he didn't age a day. I understand that Romulans age much slower than humans, but he didn't seem to age at all. Than what happen to that super powerful mining ship for 20 years? If he was somehow imprisoned by the Klingons wouldn't they have took possession of that ship? So how did he get it back, and manage to get all of his crew members back?

    • @Dreadjaws
      @Dreadjaws 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Laughing Man All of the members of the crew were taken prisoners, not just Nero. The deleted scene shows it very well.
      Plus, are you serious about the age thing? You have regular humans in movies showing up a couple of decades later and still looking the same, perhaps with a different haircut, this is hardly notorious.

    There was a great scene cut from The Empire Strikes Back on the ice planet Hoth. A pack of Wampas break into the base, and rebel soldiers manage to force the creatures into a secure room, lock the door and place a warning label on it to ensure that nobody accidentally releases them. After the Imperials enter the base and Han, Leia & Threepio are running to the Falcon, they pass this door. Threepio backtracks and tears the warning from the door before continuing to the ship. Snowtroopers soon arrive and open the door, setting loose the Wampas and are overwhelmed by the unexpected threat.
    The only significant part of this scene which survives today is in the original trailer for ESB, in which Threepio is shown tearing the warning label from the door.

    You should have also put the scene from Star Wars: A New Hope which happens right before Luke buys R2 and C3P0. It shows him talking to Biggs and I think it really makes Biggs's death scene more dramatic. It was NOT in the special edition, but it should have replaced the Janna scene.

    • @TheMijman
      @TheMijman 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Shamwow Donkey Yeah, it's like 2 minutes just after the opening credits on Tatooine, showing Luke is kinda a loner and Biggs is his only friend.
      It shows that Luke has no agenda and was planning on signing up to the Empire, just to get off Tatooine. Then Biggs tells him that he is joining the Rebellion, and that Luke should too.

    The Abyss.
    The theatrical version deleted almost the entire story line that due to the loss of the submarine WWIII was about to break out on the surface. Only one line of that plot remains. But it was this plot which set up the movie's climax in which the NTIs frighten all of humanity with the threat of multiple tidal waves. When this scene removed, the climax of the film becomes a hastily cobbled together mishmash of unintelligible sentimentality and deus ex machina. Nothing makes sense in the last 5 minutes, and even Roger Ebert jumped ship at that point. Restoring that scene and plot in the Special Edition added to the runtime, but carried the benefit of making everything make sense, heightening the tension, developing the characters, and giving the movie scope which the theatrical release sorely lacked.

    • @zenagitana
      @zenagitana 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The carnival scene from Unbreakable, when Sam Jack's character was a little kid.
    I can kinda understand why they cut it, because it feels like the movie stops and we get this amazing little short film, but the scene's really affecting and memorable. IMHO, it would have been worth tightening the pacing of a few other scenes in order to fit it in. Might've made the movie be looked upon more favorably.

    You missed the showdown between Gandalf and the Witch King in Return of the King in which Gandalf has his staff destroyed. It was important because it elevated the threat level of Mordor to beyond something even the Wizard (whom we had previously seen kill a freaking Balrog) could not handle. And it explained why he didn't carry a staff for the rest of the movie. You could pick ANY scene on this list to knock off in favor of of that RotK scene, it's THAT important.

    Man. I'm not the only one that fell in love with that mask am I? It's fkn awesome!

    I absolutely second that deleted Loki scene in which he is made king. We don't see it in the film. When the soldiers carry in the scepter, so many emotions wash over Hiddleston's face: shock, awe, grief, and greed. Really amazing.
    I also wish they'd kept in the earlier scene with Thor about to be elevated in court, with the brothers standing in the wings, teasing each other about their helmets, Loki showing us his abilities with illusion by changing wine into snakes, and showing the very deep bond between the two. That would have been worthwhile keeping in.

    -The Scooby Doo movie had really good deleted scenes. The original opening payed serious homage to the franchise. There was one that showed what happened after they all broke up. Another showed how Fred ended up at the castle, even though he just mentions it, the whole scene would have been better. Also the scene when Daphne found out Velma was possessed was pretty good.
    -In Pirates 3, Jack hints that he once worked for Lord Becket, shipping cargo. Becket asks why did he quit and Jack replies "People aren't cargo" That scene was a really good chance to show some character between the two.

    The scene with Loki is a bit messy but it does add to the character, when I watched the film I felt like it was a bit sudden when Loki is on the throne, it felt like there was a bit missing- so the deleted scene helps that. Plus it does show more of Loki and does makes him more sympathetic. Anything that adds to his character is worth watching in my opinion. I think he is one of the most interesting and complex marvel characters.

    I would have included the pig-head scene in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" in the movie. It helps to explain why Eddie's wearing a tear in the shower.
    It never bothered me that Nero waited 25 years. It helped reinforce how much he blamed Spock. My problem was that his crew shouldn't have been willing to wait that long. What I would have done was shown Nero used those Mind Worms on all of them to follow his orders. It really would have shown just how far Nero has fallen if he's willing to mind-control his own crew just to have his revenge.

    One that should have definitely made it is from KPAX. Jeff Bridges is sitting in his yard, looking at the stars, he goes inside and his wife, Mary McCormick, is playing piano. Bridges makes a comment about her former piano teacher, a slight joke, and his wife says: "She told me to not just play the notes. If you just play the notes" she said... "you'll miss it."
    It's very symbolic for what Bridges is trying to do in helping Prot, his alien patient. It is one of my all time favorite deleted scenes.

    Seriously, you included the Denethor scene, but NOT the Saruman scene?
    Saruman's scene at the beginning of return of the king reverberates throughout the entire movie, and gives much more weight to scenes like Theoden's death, where he DIRECTLY REFERENCES that deleted scene. Heck, Theoden's doubt about winning the battle of helm's deep is directly derived from Saruman planting the doubt in his mind, just as Gandalf's doubts about sending Frodo to his death comes from that scene, and it explains the palantir popping up out of nowhere.
    It is a scene that completely changes the narratives of the rest of the movie and shoudl never, never, have been cut.

    Even more crucial was the deleted scene from Terminator 2 where they shoot the frozen t1000 and it messes him up. He begins glitching out and sticking to the floor. The had some really cool special effects where his skin was turning the color what he was touching. This is crucial to the plot because he uses Sarah Conner's voice to call John. John returns to find two Sarah Conners waiting for him and John is able to tell which one is the T1000 by looking at his glitched out feet.
    In the original production the trippy special effects are cut out and John just inexplicably knows which Sarah to shoot. They saved a few seconds I guess, but the scene should have stayed in.

    The trouble with movies and TV is they are all made by committees. Most bad decisions made in film-making is when the studio question the decisions of the director. Studios have this belief that audiences are stupid and have the attention span of a goldfish. I am happy to sit through another 10 minutes of a good movie to have the story improved by those "quiet moments" of exposition.

    With regards to that scene in LOTR. The directors may have felt like it wasn't necessary. I never really felt like Boromir was 'easily corrupted'. Actually I saw him the whole time as a guy who means well and wants to protect his people, but the ring knew he was desperate and played into this, tempting Boromir and making it impossible for him to resist. It was probably also to fully emphasize the power of the One ring. It simultaneously showed the extraordinary resilience of Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf and the like, whilst not underestimating the rings powers of seduction. Boromir was consistently portrayed a good man who desired the power to protect his people. His greatest weakness was being ignorant of the rings true malice, but he completely redeemed himself at the end when he gave his life to protect the Hobbits. The scene with him dying was really great, and I think really sold him as a great character.

    The Toschee Station scene from A New Hope. Should have been in it, as it showed how the storylines crossed over; Luke looks up at the Tantive and Star Destroyer battle through binoculars, and has a discussion with Biggs about whether they're fighting. Then he talks to Biggs about joining the academy and the rebellion. It adds to the depth of the universe Lucas is introducing us to, and it would have benefited the mythology of the film. That, and changing Obi-Wan's wild-man warning shriek back to the original sound, are the only two changes I would make to Episode 4.
