    When movies weave tales of government conspiracies, elaborate heists, or mind-bending time travel, audiences know that not every twist or turn will be spelled out in detail. But sometimes, a film goes too far, introducing unclear plot points, breaking the rules they themselves established, or simply hoping viewers won’t think too hard about what they’ve just seen. Here are ScreenRant's 10 Movie Plot Holes and Paradoxes.

      definitely not. They were so complex compared to the success of the original 1980's Transformers that the marketing of anything for the movies was non-existant since they couldn't be made in toy form.

    • @GeorgeHale1984
      @GeorgeHale1984 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aus78Formula You're kidding right? They make several lines of the same exact transformer, from the 1-step transformers for small children, to the easy transform 3-5 steps, to the grown up versions. They have multiple "battle" skins for each ones, talking variants. Every single movie this is repeated.

    • @Aus78Formula
      @Aus78Formula 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to their potential though like original 1980's range where you had the actual robot, whereas the current one's just morph digitally pretty much. So no I'm not kidding. Then again it wasn't a kids movie either, could have been named anything as had little to do with anything, just that those who watched it remembered vaguely of the original. Stupid movie!

      Lindsay Hands NO. It happens in rise of the fallen when the fallen is about to activate the machine and jetscream /jetstream dies and gives his parts to optimus which enables him to fly. it is also shown in Transformers 3

    I think the reason Jack survived the sword stab is because he walked into the moonlight, so when he walked back out his body was healed, where as Barbosa was only in the shadows the entire time, causing his wound not to heal.

    • @Shuyin128MK4
      @Shuyin128MK4 8 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      ***** However, the moonlight also removes all that makes their bodies human, including wounds.

    • @kemimaro50
      @kemimaro50 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Shuyin178 i think its just that the bullet hit his heart which didnt make any difference at first but when he became mortal it caused a heart malfunction. Through the same logic the other previously undead pirates died afte the ritual because of the wounds they sustained

    • @MrFirefox365
      @MrFirefox365 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +AOC Productions It does not health them but if you thing of it as when not in the moonlight their body can be wounded, but not be effected by it. By stepping into the moonlight then coming out it would theoretically reset the flesh back to an non-wounded state because the sword was no longer in the way for the flesh to return to normal..

    • @SuperJackwilson
      @SuperJackwilson 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Shuyin178 i think the correct terminology to use in this case is that when they enter moonlight it shows their cursed form but when they leave they revert to how they were when they took the gold this is shown earlier in the film when they stuck 3 pirates together with a pole put a grenade into the gut of the middle one then shoved them out of the moonlight in the shade he reverted to how he was so he couldn't take the grenade out there are also scenes of cursed pirates losing limbs and not caring like they've done it before yet there are no scars to show for it yet injuries from before the gold were still present (the guy with the glass eye) if going for moonlight to shade did heal them then he could have given himself a working eye by taking a cursed eye from another pirate while under moonlight stuck it in his socket then left moonlight if it does heal them then the other pirate would have grown a new eye and he would have performed the worlds easiest eye transplant

    • @boogienightsmarkwahlberg6011
      @boogienightsmarkwahlberg6011 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Shuyin178 I think the best explanation would be that after jack was stabbed, the sword was removed while he was immortal, so it healed. When Barbosa was shot, he was immortal, however, there is nothing stating that the bullet was removed. Or they just had ridiculously good timing :)

  • @j.ackermann9110

    The one from pirates of the carribean is nott a plothole. The bullet is in barbossas chest when he turns mortal and wounded him immediately...

    • @sannemadsen6815
      @sannemadsen6815 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +J. Ackermann But he did not have any flesh before he turned mortal (it looks like it, but it's just an illusion: the moonlight shows their true look). So there should be no hole in his chest. It's true that the bullet might stay inside of him. But there should be no bullet hole, since there was no flesh before :)

    • @PaganSamurai
      @PaganSamurai 8 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      +Sanne Madsen No, actually they do have flesh when not in the moonlight. If it were an illusion, they wouldn't have been able to trap a grenade inside one of them.

    In Harry potter it is said that Basalisk venom is one of the few substances that can destroy a horcrux, but when Harry himself got stabbed in the arm with the tooth, the horcrux inside of him should have been destroyed.

    Each fall was to wake people up from the next dream down. The fortress was blown up to get the people out of limbo. Oh, and the jumping from the building in limbo wasn't about the fall, it was about killing themselves to escape from limbo and into the arctic dream.
    There wasn't a fall on the plane in "real life" because they could use time that one perfectly so the drug ran out in time.

      The00devon What I never understood was why Joseph Gordon Levitt's character didn't wake up with the first kick of the van falling off the bridge, he only woke up with the second kick when the van hit the water. Got any answers for me ?

    • @The00devon
      @The00devon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thatsarahgurlley Due to the intensity of the sleeping drug they were using in the main heist, the way to wake from a dream is to be killed in the dream while the dreaming self is falling. That's why they were using the song, to match up the falls and the deaths.
      On the first jolt, when the van hits the bridge, JJLs character is no ready, due to the subconscious manifestations. However, using height of the bridge and the time dilation between dreams, he was able to calculate the time to the second jolt, hitting the water, and made sure that the team were killed against the side of the lift at that exact moment.
      Hope that clears things up.

      When the bullet went into him, he was still a skeleton, meaning when the bullet actually entered his body, it did not hurt him. When he became flesh again, the bullet was either still in his body, but not actually creating any damage, just sitting there, or already out of his body. He would not be hurt by a bullet unless it started going into him when he was flesh.

      Th3mightyeagle Really?!?!?!? I don't think so!!! I think that has to do with lazy writing. I mean, it was already established at the end of the first film that Bumblebee actually got his vocal processor fix. Just never explained how, but hey...we all just blindly accepted it as like a hero's reward. But in the sequels, it's clearly obvious that he went back to speaking through the radio because he "did it by choice!" Seriously, that is just ridiculous. And you see why I'm still a part of the vast majority of people who always hated Revenge of the Fallen?! It's because Ehren Kruger is a F#@%'N idiot when it comes to writing screenplay for a Transformers movie.

    The most obvious X men Plot hole that no one EVER talks about is not Charles somehow alive again, but how did Trask Industries capture Mystique, torture her, probably kill her and then she is alive and well for X men 1-3. There is no way this scenario would work. Trask said he needed more than blood; bone marrow, spinal fluid, brain tissue. You can't just casually remove this from a person. And even if you somehow could, do they honestly expect us to believe that Mystique not spend the rest of her life destroying Trask industries??

    • @realGeorgelucas18563
      @realGeorgelucas18563 9 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      The Ricktator In X-Men 3, Charles is giving a lecture on morality, asking is it right or wrong to transfer the consciousness of a dying man, into the healthy body of a braindead man. In the end credits scene his voice is heard coming from a body hooked up to life support machines, (presumably on Muir Island) saying "Hello Moira" to which she replies "Charles?". The body turns out to be Charles twin brother. As for the for the rest, magic probably.

    • @ranwolf1240

      The Ricktator the after credits in X-3 explains how Xavier is alive. One problem I don't think anyone has noticed is: How was Syrin(She's one of the kids in X-2 that was captured by Stryker) born if Banshee, her father, was killed long *before* the time line was changed?

    • @ChristianDiaz-dy9yh
      @ChristianDiaz-dy9yh 9 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Actually in the mystic one is that she wasnt captured until wolverine changed the timeline before they only got her blood (thats why it took so long to get the sentinels working)

    • @jomejia2
      @jomejia2 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The Ricktator ok, but how about the fact the Charles Xavier has his powers and can still walk in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but he got injured in X-Men First Class and then in Days of Future Past he can walk with the serum or whatever but doesn't have his powers!
      thats the biggest plot hole, to me at least.

    • @ranwolf1240
      @ranwolf1240 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      josue mejia Well the serum may allow him to walk, but it also takes away his powers. And if Xavier has gotten it into his head he needs his powers to create and lead the X-men he can't be using the serum. It could also explain Hank not being furry and blue in his cameo in X2. As for Wolverine Origins I've heard numerous times it's no longer considered canon

  • @IlluminatiBG

    Pirates of the Caribbean does not introduces a plot hole. Earlier scenes shows that all cuts, holes and complete rupture of the flesh of cursed pirates can be repaired by just going in and out of the moon light. Jack has his sword put out when he loses the curse, but bullet hole remains. If Barbossa had stepped into the moon light just before the curse is lifted, he could have been alive.

    The HUGE plot holes opened up by expanding the Star Wars movie franchise - like how no one remembered the Jedi/Force from only 20 years earlier when it was status quo, or how Obi Wan didn't remember R2. Admittedly not a hole in a movie but, rather, a franchise - still huge.

      It's not that no one remembers the jedi. Remember in revenge of the sith the jedi were branded as traitors to the Republic even going as far as attempting to kill the chancellor so naturally under 20 years of imperial rule the galactic republic (now the galactic empire) would consider the jedi faith as taboo.
      tatooine is not part of the Republic or the empire so they didn't really give a fuck about the jedi to begin with. It's never stated in any of the movies that people forgot about the jedi though in fact Han Solo and Jabba the hut both know about the religion.
      As for obi wan not remembering R2-D2 he says "I don't remember ever owning a droid" which from a "certain point of view" is true R2 never belonged to Obi Wan he belonged to Anikin- technically R2 belonged to padme amidala so Obi Wan is right, plus he's old and probably forgot about a lot of things in his past because it would only bring him more guilt he remembers Anikin because of his drive to look after Luke.

    In pirates of the Caribbean if the curse make you invincible and heal basically then when jack got stabbed the sword would have made whole in his body then when the sword was pulled out it was healed but when barbosa was shot the bullet didn't leave his body so the curse made it have no effect to his insides but when the curse was lifted the bullet would have been in his body still so that's why he bled and jack didn't coz the curse made them have no effect until it was lifted making the bullet kill barbosa and the sword not because it was removed and healed before.

      Metholus Caedes hhhmmm good point. the only explanation is that his wound didn't heal fast enough before Will lifted the curse so the whole in his chest was still there but had no effect coz the curse if you know what i mean then when it got lifted it took effect and blood came out.

    • @TheDarkAngel27
      @TheDarkAngel27 9 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Patrick Daley The whole immortal thing was not explained very much, it is my belief that when the immortals were in the moonlight they became skeletons and when they got out of the moonlight they return to their full body. Hence any wounds sustained while in full body will stay and not hurt/bleed alot or be a bother (just ugly) until the immortal is back in moonlight. When the immortal leaves the moonlight the body becomes whole again or rather the original condition it was in when the curse started (as guy with missing eyeball doesn't magically get a new one). However because Barbosa was not in moonlight between the shot and the end of the curse his wound was not made whole and he dies. The other pirates on the ship that are fighting the soldiers I think suffer the same fate whereby the ones in full moonlight were healed straight away and the ones who weren't kept their wounds and died. The time it took to heal could have also been the case. I dunno, I watched this movie for the first time when I was 8 and that is what my mind concocted to feed the 'inconsistency'. Jack was healed straight away because he pulled the sword out in the moonlight.

      +Ryan Choate In movies like that when they say midnight it's just a simple, less accurate way of saying "When the moon is at its highest point" Which would change based on your timezone. Not feeding a gremlin past midnight just means to feed them between the hours of when the moon reaches its highest point and the sun comes up. Once the sun is up, you can feed them all you want, until "midnight".

    Days of Future Past they TELL Wolverine that this is their last chance to fix the past, but there's no reason for that. When they detected Sentinels on the way they could have abandoned the effort, gone two weeks back using Bishop, and started over. It's established they've been doing this repeatedly, so no reason they couldn't do it again. In fact, this means they'd have an infinite number of chances for Wolverine to succeed, so of course he'd inevitably do so and the 'future' would never exist in the first place.

      If I recall correctly, as long as they are cursed, nothing hurts them. The moonlight only reveals their form rather than making them undead. They are always undead as long as they are cursed. • @Anduril74871

    Points off on several sections in the Back to the Future 3 segment. Firstly, "flux capacitor" not "flux capacitator". Second, Doc did NOT instruct Marty to rescue him from 1885. In fact, Doc's message said, "Do not, I repeat, DO NOT come back here to get me." Doc was afraid further time travel would cause irreparable harm to the space time continuum. Marty was to fix the time machine, return to 1985, then destroy it. Third, when storing a vehicle for long periods of time, ie. seventy years, it is prudent to remove all liquids, including gasoline, so the buried time vehicle would not have been a solution. Hill Valley was also never stated to be near any major oil boom sites, and there's no real way of knowing without time travel ourselves if the gasoline of 1885 would have been high octane enough to jumpstart a car of the 1980's.

  • @yerboishrek2871
    @yerboishrek2871 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Also in back to the future 2 there is a plot hole AND a kind of unclear paradox (literally) when old Biff goes back to 1985. The plot hole is that how did Biff know how to use the time machine and the paradox is when he gives the almanac to young Biff, it altered the future which would have led to old Biff living a life of luxury, never see the time machine, never get the almanac and never giving himself the almanac which would mean he didn't live a life of luxury and would have done all of the above resulting in them not happening and creating an infinite loop thereby destroying all of time and space.

      No we learn that if the past is altered in the BTTF universe, they slide into an alternate reality. The plot hole is when old Biff gets back in the delorean and travels back to his future, he actually ends up in his future instead of the alternate future he created.

    • @stanroberts9110
      @stanroberts9110 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its actually explained, sort of in a deleted scene. After BIFF returns to the future he actually disappears, meaning he didnt exist in that future.......so it tries to explain it.

    • @neurotoksyn
      @neurotoksyn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      World line theory explains that paradox away. The original Old Biff is on one line toward the future, when he goes back he changes the past which sends the younger Biff onto a separate future (another line) Old Biff returns to his future and young Biff stays on his line leading to fame and fortune. The instant Old Biff went back in time a separate future was created than the one he originally came from. I haven't watched the movie enough times to be certain but If I remember correctly Rich old Biff said a line something like "some old guy gave me this book and said that some day in the future some kid would try to take it from me" (Again I'm not 100%) but this would support the world line theory.
      That's not to say there aren't some inconsistencies but that paradox can actually be explained properly.

      And even so they specifically said that they would "ride the kicks" all the way up through to the van, which itself should have been a kick since the van flipping through air led to a sensation of falling was strong enough to make gravity fall apart in the hotel: and moreover that was an inconsistency since if the van flipping head over heels led to gravity disappearing in the hotel, it should have disappeared inside the mountain fortress, and everyone should have floated away.
      I like the movie too, but the whole final act is one huge inconsistency.

    Back to the Future 3: I think you missed the point of that movie and it's plot.
    He (Doc) wasn't out of gas in the 1800's. The time circuits were fried by the lightning. Doc, in the 1800's, would never have been able to fix it. So he put the delorean in the cave, for Marty to find later, with instructions on how to fix it with 1950's tech.
    Doc did not tell Marty to come back for him, he told Marty to go home (1985). Marty only went back for Doc when he found out that Doc died like 5 days after sending the letter.
    When Marty went back, he ruptured the gas line and lost his gas.
    People have asked why they didn't get the gas from the delorean that was native to that time, but any car person will tell you that you drain a car of ALL fluids before you store it for a long period of time. Therefore, Doc would have drained the delorean before sealing it up in the mine.

    The pirates of the Caribbean one can be explained pretty well... To a point. Pistols back then weren't exactly the best. Usually they would just stay inside the person causing infection. We could say that the bullet got lodged into Barbossa's chest. Seeing they only transform into skeletons when struck by moon light, one could say the bullet was unable to leave the body before the coins hit the gold. What can't be explained is why the hole didn't close up first.

    What about the plot hole in you explaining Back to the Future 2 and 3? Doc's plan was for Marty to get the car and destroy it, hence why he stashed it, and he explicitly told him not to come get him because he was fine and happy. Marty only decided to go back and get him after he saw his tombstone. The REAL plot hole was if he was remembered by his beloved Clara, why was the place still called Clayton Ravine, because Marty said he remembered the story from when he was a kid. Doc already went back and saved her, because Marty was born after 1885, so why was it STILL called that even though she didn't die? Time Travel plot holes, you can't stop them.

    The BttF III plot hole is not a plot hole.
    They don't use the buried Delorean as that would affect the car when they uncover it in 1955 and jeopardise Marty being able to use it to get to 1885.
    Also, there is no gas in the buried Delorean, a Doc even says when they uncover it to send Marty to 1885 that he had to fill it up.

    Here's another plot hole that GI Joe: Rise of Cobra has. I'm sure everybody remembers the scene were The Joes stop Cobra from destroying Paris, however The Eiffel Tower is destroyed. The French being *ASSHOLES* decide to arrest The Joes & forbid them from returning to France. This is not even mention in the sequel. What happens if Cobra takes over France? Does that technically mean they screwed themselves?
    French Guy: Mr. Prime Minister Cobra has taken over 90% of France, we must call GI Joe!
    Prime Minister: No! The Joes are exiled! We can take care of this ourselves!
    French Guy: But our police & military are no match against Cobra.
    Prime Minister: The Joes must never set foot in France! Besides they destroyed The Eiffel Tower!
    French Guy: Actually Mr. Prime Minister my sources confirmed that it was Cobra who destroyed The Eiffel Tower. The Joes managed to stop the destruction from spreading to across Paris, more importantly not one civilian died. The Joes only crime was not trying hard enough.
    Prime Minister: It doesn't matter!
    French Guy: 1st of all, it does matter. 2nd by exiling The Joes it only proves the world that we're easily surrendering stereotypes.

      Example: You and I were sat in a room and I have a a time machine.
      I used the machine to go back 1 week ago, while you stayed in that room in the present. I find you in the past, and chop off your left thumb. In theory, while sat in that room in the present, your left thumb should dissappear the moment I travel back, as it had already happened in the past.

    There are two problems I can see with your list.
    First, Ocean's Eleven. Look at the floor in the shot where Clooney and Damon walk on. No 'B' on the floor of the vault, which is mentioned just a little while later by Andy Garcia's character as having been recently installed. Also, they hadn't broken into the actual vault, but the replica. When the Ocean's crew does enter the actual vault for the first time, it's as the SWAT crew, not as themselves. They came in empty-handed, but that was during the recording of the fake vault heist. The bags are then easily explained as not only being brought in by the rest of the Ocean's Crew, but necessary for Damon, Clooney and the rest to carry their gear in, later to be used to stash the cash.
    Second, Curse of the Black Pearl. There's one key difference between Jack getting run-through, and Barbosa getting shot. Jack gets run through, steps into the moonlight, revealing he'd taken a piece of the gold, and becoming a skeleton. Then when he leaves the light, he's perfectly fine. While it's not directly established, that scene and the scene of Barbosa being shot do clearly establish that wounds DO have an effect on the Cursed people who suffer them, just that the wounds amount to very little while they're cursed. He would still have the bullet hole, and for that matter, the bullet in his chest when the coin is dropped, returning his mortality to him so he can keel over and actually suffer the fatal effects of the wound. If he'd stepped into the moonlight prior to Will returning the coin to the chest, he would've been just fine, same as Jack.
    No plot holes there, guys.

    I like to believe that Bruce's actions in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight set up his persona as a gallivanting playboy with little responsibilities, so that it technically might seem like he could gamble away all his money. Even if nobody really believes that, because you know, Bane and stuff, Bruce wasn't particularly liked all-around, and some people might see that as an opportunity.

    The Big Bang Theory mentioned a great one with Indiana Jones but I'd say the best plot hole comes in Star Wars Episode 7 (spoiler warning obviously). Although there are a lot of plot holes in the movie (Fin's only motivation is that Rey is pretty for example) the biggest comes in the fact that Leia never mentions her force sensitivity. It was established in the original trilogy that she was told about it and though her actual training may not have happened in this continuity she should still have a force link with Luke to find him.

    Even the Star Trek one isn't a plot hole. Or paradox. If you want to look for meaning for the song existing in the universe then why can't it? Because of the spock reference in a song that isn't in the film?! Maybe in the Trek universe Intergalactic never was released. Either way, not a plot hole or paradox.

    • @josephjackson4312
      @josephjackson4312 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Joseph Jackson But that doesn't have to do with anything since the songs from the band in these movies don't reference Spock. It's very likely that the Beastie Boys simply didn't make Intergalactic in this timeline or that they referenced another space themed show in that song. But those explanations don't need to be addressed because Sabotage doesn't reference Star Trek at all.

    Here's one worth mentioning, despite being very minor: in The Butterfly Effect, the last timeline before things get "fixed", Evan accidentally kills Kaleigh with a stick of dynamite. This happens when he's seven, on a trip to the Millers' house to give him some peace of mind because he's having blackouts the doctor thinks are caused by stress from not having a father. The issue here is that we see, early in the movie, Evan writing (what we can assume is) his first journal (about how he's going to go to the Millers' house), a major plot point in the movie since it jogs his memory and allows... basically the entire movie to happen. All of this is relevant because in the penultimate timeline, Evan is known to have repeatedly ask for his journals, which the doctor claims don't exist- but there was one?
    In the same vein, Evan killed Kaleigh before he was supposed to meet his father. Which means the two never had that conversation, so Evan never went back in time to talk to Jason, so Jason was never prompted to kill Evan, so the orderly was never forced to kill him. As that's the only scene we see Jason in, this isn't relevant *except for* the fact that the doctor refers to Jason in the past tense.Other things could have happened, but it raises questions.

    My favorite plot hole is in the Thomas Crown Affair remake, which is excellent and otherwise generally realistic. Right after the first robbery, which uses a heater in a brief case to mess up the thermal imaging, they would have just played the security tape further back to see who left the case. We actually get to see Crown walk in to the room with the case and leave without it, so he would definitely have been recorded.

    The only explanation I can think of for "Pirates" is that Jack's wound occurred much earlier, and thus would've given him time to heal. On the flip side, Barbossa suffered the gunshot just seconds before the coins were returned, meaning the wound was fresher and thus managed to affect him before it fully healed.

    My favorite paradox is from "The Butterfly Effect" in which, the main character experiences gaps in his memory as a child. This is later explained to be due to his future self having traveled back in time to either change history or to find out what happened during those memory gaps he had as a child. The paradox comes into play once you ask yourself how he would have had those gaps in his memory if said gaps were caused by his future self having traveled back in time to find out what happened during those gaps.

    The Pirates of the Caribbean problem actually makes sense, to me anyway. While Jack was stabbed by the sword, he had stepped in and out of moonlight, causing his skin to regenerate. However, Balbossa was shot before the coins were dropped, and exposed to no moonlight before they were dropped. Meaning his skin/insides, while useless before the coins were dropped, did not get the chance to regenerate by going in and out of the moonlight.
