Glittering Stockpile - a 50 cent Uncommon! 2R cmc, taps for R. every time it taps put a stash counter on it. Can sac it for x mana of any one color where x is the number of stock counters. It can become a beefy add to any x spell later in the game, or just help you ramp into an earlier win con. I've found sacking it for just 2 additional mana of a color i wasn't hitting in my land drops was enough of a boost to win a game early when I'd normally be stuck waiting for the right mana.
in the same vein there's also Shrine of Boundless Growth, a 2 cent unco, 3 cmc, who get a charge counter every upkeep, plus one for every green spell you cast, you can sac to get X colorless. (and there's one for every color, the blue scry, the black discard, the red damage creature/player and the white create 1/1 artifact tokens)
Right, but those only generate mana after sacing. Glittering stockpile taps for Red the turn it’s cast and every turn after, while still acquiring counters every upkeep. Still a cool budget add to go explosive with colourless.
Here's a bit of fun, but jank, synergy. Scavenging Ghoul ALSO uses corpse counters. Let Scavenging Ghoul accumulate corpse counters and then dump them on Crowded Crypt with Resourceful Defense (and/or Nesting Grounds) for even MORE zombies. I'm not entirely sure WHERE you would run all of these (Varina maybe) but I thought I'd mention it.
I agree. It seems like the perfect candidate for that mechanic. But no, we got a clunky thing instead and it doesn't even self equip when becoming that (which is a big drawback in my opinion). Probably why it isn't really used.
Honored Heirloom. 3 cost that taps for any color but comes with graveyard hate built in. 2 mana and taps to remove target card in a graveyard from the game. This comes in handy whenever I face someone in my pod playing any kind of recursion because they always forget my mana rock does this.
Another mana rock I rarely see brought up is Planar Atlas. Another rock in the 2 mana category that can help you hit another land drop if you want it to. Always a pleasant sight in a riskier 2 land opener!
Oh my gosh. Thanks for pointing out that the "loses all other abilities" is for the artifact and not the creature. Otherwise, I was thinking, "Um... where's the value in this?" LOL This may go into my Sisay deck where I can tutor for it!
It would be useful for my liberty prime deck then he wouldnt need 2 energy to attack or defend as there sre plenty of equipment to give vigilantce, trample, haste, etc
I've literally got a whole list of these kinds of things on my phone, like Misleading Signpost, Midnight Clock, Hourglass of the Lost, Cursed Mirror, and even some kinda worse ones that are still cool like Ore-Rich Stalactite, Forger's Foundry, and another really cool one is Strixhaven Stadium. I absolutely love abandoning traditional mana rocks for ones with more synergy, even if it costs some tempo, because I just find it fun
I'm really glad you discussed underplayed mana rocks that are truly underrated and not just janky/low power. These are perfectly good cards that also have an incredible role in specific decks.
The irencrag makes me so mad because EVERYONE misreads it. Like you're literally just pulling the sword out of the stone, why would it take creature abilities away? it's a beautiful and flavorful card! I don't see how it's not just the first extra mana rock you grab when you're doing voltron.
@@aaroneisenman6873 the post was talking about Voltron, not specifically equipment. Yes, in an equipment deck, The Irencrag should be an auto-include. For decks not focused on equipment, it's much worse. The Irencrag also has the downside of massively setting you back if your commander gets removed. You're now down a mana rock, and your commander is more expensive
The Irencrag one on my list of underrated cards as well. Ebony fly, same thing. Liquimetal Torque I've been telling everybody. I've been able to do such strong things. Not only does it make your removal more versatile but you get to combo on very silly ways. Think like Sculpting Steel synergies. Otherwise there's also the fact that it allows for your mono opponents to remove a problematic card they otherwise wouldn't be able to touch on the field. Wand of the Worldsoul is something I was big on. Ran it in my token storm deck. However, it hasn't really popped off yet, but it def has potential. The irencrag definitely passed under my radar i'm happy to have clicked on your video. Cards are coming out so fast these days i cannot keep up with all the commun/uncommon stuff coming out. Thanks man didnt know about a bunch of these. Definitely gonna try ebony fly in my Etali deck. The ability is a bit expensive but its just stapled on rock so the floors pretty high.
I run colorless and let me tell you how much is just helped my deck out introducing me to Ebony Fly and helping me realize Irencrag is about itself and not the creature. How is this card not way more expensive?

I am a brewer myself and I like deckbuilding challenges. A friend of mine once challenged me to craft a deck that did not use sol ring. The deck I came up with was a monoR very aggresive, very fast and with a bunch of artifacts AOE that way it would be ill adviced to run sol ring since You would only shatter(storm) it to Oblivion yourself every single Game. Territory Forge is really nice removal, especially when you can exile a mana rock. Then, making a copy of Territory Forge is quite amusing. My mono🔴 Slobad (Goblin Tinkerer) EDH has quite a few toys to play with.
I run decanter of endless water in all of my decks, it's basically an extra copy of arcane signet that costs one extra mana but gives me no max hand size
Hi, just finished the vid and am loving the use of liquimetal torque, as I use in a jan jansen deck. But I was wondering if you could do a deck tech for one of my more recent obsessions. Tyvar the Bellicose.

Irencrag is unplayable because it makes the creature lose all other abilities. It straight knee caps your voltron commanders. That was unnecessary text. Otherwise it would be fine.

The fact that you think Irencrag belongs on a top 5 list instead of bottom 5 list of mana rocks surprises me... you wouldnt play an equipment like everflame in a voltron deck let alone any other deck that doesn't have an equipment theme why would you play a rock that might tap for mana once because the first time you play a legendary creature it transforms and if choose not to you just have a bad mind stone. Torque is good and it sees a fairly high amount of play in the specific decks and a decent amount of play in decks it shouldn't (4% of all decks), why is it in a list of rocks people dont play? One mana rock cycle I really like is the Borderpost cycle. Pretty good for when you want the extra landfall triggers.
This so much. I love the borderposts, and I've gotten a few of my playgroup to start fitting them into their decks.
I'd say they're very situational. If land drops are important to your deck, they're great, but otherwise, they're pretty lackluster.
