  • Learn how look up the name of a property owner here in New York City in this homedax.com tutorial.
StreetEasy is one of the best ways to look up public record data for real estate in NYC primarily because they aggregate records and present them in a very easy and efficient manner.
So when it comes to looking up the name of a property owner you can either search by the address or by an individual or entity name.
So we'll start with the latter option which is to find the properties that somebody has bought or sold. So once you are logged into your StreetEasy account you'll see a search bar on the top right. The search bar is where you will type in the name of the person or entity that you are looking up.
So type in the name, hit search and if you scroll down on the next page it will present you with all of the recorded sales that fall under that person's name. So in this example you can see that there's been quite a bit of activity. There was a purchase on the Upper West Side, there was a purchase in Turtle Bay and there were also some sales in Yorkville.
So clicking on the name on the left side will pull up the more specific records associated with this entry. So in the case of that first one, once you click on it it will down below here show you the names of the buyers the names of the sellers and it will also link you to the original filing.
Now all of the data that StreetEasy presents does come ACRIS, the property records database here in NYC. If you click on the original filing, it will actually direct you to the ACRIS site. If you are curious, although we've already gotten the information we were looking for if you really want to go into it you can click on view document this will actually show you all of the paperwork that is filed with the city register of the city of New York.
So you can just scroll through as you can see here this is actually the deed for the transaction. If we scroll further we might be able to even go and find the signature pages. So here you can even see the signatures of the buyer and the seller. So going back to StreetEasy just to summarize you type in the name of the person on top right all of the recorded sales will appear.
The other thing you can do is if you know a particular address and you want to know who owns it you can also look that up on StreetEasy. So in this case we can actually use the same building so let's just copy and paste that address up in the top right and this will take us to the results page and you want to click on generally the first result named the building here click on 310 in this case. Scroll down on the next page until you see past sales.
So for example let's say we are looking for the owner of say Apartment 20A. Apartment 20A is currently for sale, so let's see if we can find the name of the current owners of apartment 2-A. So when you click on past sales let this load for a minute and then in filter this table you can type in the unit number. So here's a result that this is actually looks like it's an old listing and de-listed unit so it's actually not a sale record.
So if we click on see all activity give it a minute to expand and then you want to remove 20A and put it back in the search and therefore now we've expanded it we can actually see the recorded closing.
So this is actually the previous transaction which has resulted in the current sellers purchasing the place originally. So you can click on recorded closing and here it will take you to a similar page as we saw for our first example where it tells you the name of the buyer and seller. So in this case we have discovered the name of the purchaser for this particular apartment.
