I want to get the Calligraphy but I am torn between the Hybrid and regular gas car. Does the hybrid feel slow compared to the gas as it is down on hp and torque compared to the gas?
I've had two early Sonata Hybrids. A 2012 and a 2014. My 2014 currently has 140,000 miles on it and I have only lost 2 miles per gallon in efficiency since new. My only critisism is there is sometime a lag when you put your foot down on the pedal. I'm sure the new models are much better. Maintenance has also been minimal. I bought a 2021 Santa Fe with the 2.5 turbo and wished I had waited for the hybrid. I'm not sure I like "The Box" look of the new model. And one of my complaints has been how low the turn signal lights are. When towing a utility trailer if the trailer lights malfunction you can't see the vehicle lights. It would be better if they were Incorporated into the tail lights. I'll reserve My judgement until I see the new model. Good review.
I have 2023 Sante fe Hybrid..I have the same issue with delayed movement when stepping on the gas from a stop.. not all the time but definitely an issue

Different, both great, but I must say the 6spd auto just is a perfect match with the hybrid motor. The 8spd wet DCT on Santa Fe is the best by far hands down(amongst cars that's got the same 8spd wet DCT)
@@CarSceneKorea Unfortunately There have been a lot of reports of the DCT on the Santa Fe being replaced. My 2023 Santa Fe Calligraphy has been great so far.
@@CarSceneKorea One TH-camr has video explaining how he had to have Wet DCT replaced after only a month and others claim it lags on stop and go traffic!
Can't really say since it's literally been years since I test drove the last model and the suspension, bushings will wear & tear, the newer one has got to be better in every single aspect.
Love your videos, they’ve been so informative! Thank you. Placed a preorder for the top trim - Calligraphy model here in Canada. Spec details are unfortunately still sparse here, Hyundai North America has been unusually tight-lipped about price and details so far. For the Calligraphy model we only have the 6 seater version here, 7 seater is not available which is unfortunate. Two engine options - 2.5T and Hybrid. So, here’s my question for you - having driven both, apart from the fuel efficiency, which transmission feels better? I’ve heard from some of the previous videos that the 2.5T is just about okay in terms of power for such a huge vehicle. does the hybrid feel even more underpowered? My other vehicle is an EV so fuel efficiency is not a great concern, but I love the instant throttle response that hybrids/ EVs generally have. Also, do you have measurements for the storage capacity behind the third row? I’ve seen conflicting numbers online - from as high as 25 cu.ft to as low as 12 cu.ft. 25 cu.ft sounds a lot because the current gen palisade has only 18 cu.ft behind the third row. 12 cu.ft makes it smaller than current gen sorrento. It does look kind of small though in pictures and videos. Thank you for your time, keep doing what you do, so helpful!!
"I love the instant throttle response that hybrids/ EVs generally have." is definitely one thing I'd point out right away. They do feel different indeed. Hybrid having the motor pushes out the car immediately from the stop, which just is quicker in response than all ICE out there. However, the 8spd wet DCT on ICE SF is just top notch, I've had the same transmission on my Veloster N, so I know quite a lot about it :) Hyundai did a great fine tune with the transmission to SF. Numbers do show that hybrid is somewhat underpowered from that of 2.5T, but I'd have a real hard time choosing one bw the two. Unless you like certain things that hybrids can only provide over the ICE - instant start, that complete silence at red lights, etc. - ICE checks more boxes than hybrid in general. The price gap bw the two will take years literally to catch up with the hybrid's mpg. I did certainly feel something different when the car was loaded up with 3 adults and luggage inside; however, it all goes away once the vehicle starts moving. More on this to come, I have at least 4 more videos on this SF Hybrid. Lastly, a detailed trunk measurement on SF will also follow.
Glad you find my video to be useful, drop any question you have about the car. I started my channel seeing the needs and frustration of prospective buyers around the globe. Korea usually gets most of HMG cars first, I have the resource to deliver months ahead of other TH-cam channels, hence why I started my channel :) Plus, I love communicating and connecting with my viewers via comments.
How did you place a preorder? It's not even officially announced in Canada... I asked the local dealer and they said you can't really place the order until a VIN number shows up in their delivery queue. What they can only do is to put you on a waitlist and you will have priority to test drive and purchase it once it's arrived. But they can't charge you anything as of now.
@@chengli0330 you are right, 'preorder' was maybe the wrong word to use, but that's the word my dealer used so I went with it. They had me pay a deposit and placed me on a waiting list for order priority. As of last week they have 3 vehicles coming in soonish, scheduled to enter production by end of this month, and one of them have been assigned to me, is what I was told.
4:53 My guess is that without the lip, the car has a drag coefficient of 0.295. Therefore, Hyundai needed to reduce it to 0.294 in order to be allowed to market the car as 0.29 since 0.295 would have to be rounded to 0.30. That's my educated guess based on zero data from Hyundai 🤷♂️😀.
@@CarSceneKorea thank you for getting back to me.. however, the colour is not mentioned in the description on my screen. I had to scroll through all the comments and I finally found it.. It would have been nice if you had typed in the colour in your response rather than "in the description."
Hi. Your videos are so detailed. I love it. Can you have detail video on HDA 2 features on highway and off the highway features ? I would really appreciate that
Aunyeonghasaeyo! Ok, ok, I can wait a little bit more. But I saw a snippet of what you and Mrs were trying to do with a measuring tape, and I was quite worried. Please remember, it is the height of the opening of the rear trunk ie. at 10:27 where you put your left hand. Measure from here down vertically to the sill. This is the height that I need to know please. Just imagine that you are loading in a big box into the trunk, and hopefully you will know what I mean. I am so in love with this hybrid Santa Fe now that you have reviewed it, and I am keeping my fingers crossed for my mini motorcycle to fit into the trunk with the rear seats folded down. Many thanks again for another thorough review of the Santa Fe.
That was part of the measurements I've done, will come in the video to follow. Think I also have it - finally - on the latest video with Palisade comparison.
I see another youtuber had a santefe (not hybrid) cook two transmissions. Any news on that situation? Any possibility that problem will cross over to the hybrid?
I'm wondering, I'm talking about the arrangement with captain's chairs, on a daily basis I need two seats in the second row and a rather larger trunk for the dog, but the hole between the seats irritates me very much - firstly, because anything that falls from the second row falls under the folded seats. third row while driving, secondly, anything loose, a shoe or a bottle from the trunk flies into the cabin. Isn't there something standard or optional that would cover this hole?
I wished they design the key Fob square-ish to match the car. I loved everything about the car, and the rear oversize hatch helped seal the deal for me.
Hi, Under the hood I noticed that the liquid for the cooling system of the hybrid system is not blue anymore and there is only one cooling tank not two like in the Tucson/Santa Fe 1.6 HEV 230HP.
Great detailed videos. Can you please do a highway only mpg test at higher speed. Would love to know how efficient it is in long freeway commutes. Thanks
I completely don't care that the real lights are lower. I'm actually leaning towards the Limited over the calligraphy. I do prefer a bench, and it looks like the only thing you miss is an extra wireless charger and heads up display. I dont think we're getting the ergo motion seat in north america.
I have the 2024 hybrid. We the car is turned off and locked the lights on the fingerprint scanner and the usb-c ports are illuminated. Is that normal or can I turn them off in the settings? Thx.
so how does the battery charge in the hybrid only while driving ? is there an option to charge it at home as well , also how is the power compared to the conventional engine ? thanks
Your videos are great. Thinking about getting the new 24 Santa Fe. Do you know what trim doesn’t come with a sunroof? I’m 6’5 and typically can’t fit in a car with one.
I would really like to know how the drive feels with at least four people and some luggage. Does the hybrid engine have enough power when it’s loaded up? Looking forward to more reviews. Thanks!
Direct conversion, will certainly be more than this: 38,880,000 to 46,210,000 KRW is approximately 32,830 to 39,000 USD. Approximate exchange rate of 1,183 KRW to 1 USD.
Compared to gas, how is the acceleration to come up to speed such as 0 to 60 miles. The #s on paper seem weak and I am hoping in real life it is peppier than the #s indicate.
Will the USA 2024 Santa Fe come in 5 Seat configuration? I have been talking to local Hyundai dealer and all indications from them is 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe will only be offered in 6 & 7 Seat configuration. Please advise??
Local dealership ought to have clearer and more realistic info on it. Sales and types do depend heavily on the market, especially Hyundai USA. The only answer I can give you is that it is available from Hyundai.
Great SUV! Will the U.S. version come in a 5 seat configuration as well -- two front seats, 3 seat second row bench? That would be ideal for me! I don't need a third row, it's a waste of space for my purposes; my current Dodge Durango has those, and I never use the third row.
CSK...Thanks for all the videos. Hyundai, start working on rear lights 2025 Santa fe. Bring lights up to row of "H" Hyundai badge. No changes needed for front. You guys almost had a hit. Love the car, but not where the rear lights are situated.
I can’t believe that thing has a manual sunroof. My 2017 Hyundai Tucson has the entire panoramic sunroof and I love it of course it’s all automated well. I’m not gonna be buying this model this year. I’m gonna wait I was gonna buy, but I’m gonna wait for the next three no sense and that kind of money and then having a bummer item like that.
Those mileage numbers are very similar to current EPA numbers. I thought this was supposed to get better mileage than outgoing one? We never got hybrid calligraphy previously in the US - was that available in Korea previously?
Excellent video, very infromative as usual, thank you. May I asked what is your opinion when compared to the 2.5T Gasoline, same drive train (AWD) ,Caligraphy. Have you tested one yet ? Thanks.
Hybrid vs ICE heavily depends on your lifestyle with and around the car. Hybrids do take about 2 years minimum on an average to compensate the more expensive price tag comparing it to ICE.
I really love that gentle start and complete silence at red lights, there's a lot of constant stop's and go's here in Korea, so hybrid for me. But most cases, Gasoline would just fit great for many.
@@CarSceneKorea Thanks, in my case I will go for the ICE. Where I come from, not a lot of stop an go and I do long distance travel at highway with 4 occupants from time to time and I appreciate that extra power. Thanks once again 👍
Nice car except rear lights. I don’t agree that lights low means more rear storage. They could have raised the rear lighting to a normal position and changed nothing with rear hatch
@CarSceneKorea, can you please add some details to explain trim levels for Hybrid and how they are compared with non-hybrid trims? Do we miss any luxury or essential features if we opt for Hybrid model eg: whats the equivalent of Caligraphy in Hybrid mode?
any height difference in the 3rd row seat in the hybrid model compared to gas, due to the little hump for the battery placement? Gas and hybrid, are they both DCT speed? Thanks
Not sure down to decimals, but I couldn’t really notice the difference. Gas gets 8spd wet DCT, hybrid gets 6spd auto. Could be different on regional markets.
You can get pretty close to Tesla self-driving and actually better in some ways with a comma device. This car will likely be supported. It takes some tinkering but it will be much better than stock HDA2.
There isn't much difference in straight lines, but turns and corners, quite an upgrade. There often are times where HDA2 would clear a highway exit without losing it.
Another way in looking at this is - imagine the rear trunk is opened. Step back about 20/30 feet from the rear of the car and what do you see? An almost square opening isn’t it? Well, please help me measure the vertical height of this “square”. Thanks.

@@CarSceneKorea One TH-camr has video explaining how he had to have Wet DCT replaced after only a month and others claim it lags on stop and go traffic!
Do you have a video showing cups fitting in the cup holders…. Different sizes of cups
I carry my Yeti 30 oz tumbler everyday and it fit this size of a tumbler w/o a problem.
Is the ride smoother than last years model and is the suspension different than last year?
Can't really say since it's literally been years since I test drove the last model and the suspension, bushings will wear & tear, the newer one has got to be better in every single aspect.
best car news channel in the world. Greetings from Israel!!!!!!!
Thanks a million 🥰
@@MrPlanetshaker Cool. No update from my dealer... Can't wait to check the new Santa Fe in person!
The designer did mention that they work down to 1/1000 digit, so your guess is quite valid I'd say.
Great video, but one important thing you did not mention,, what is the colour of that vehicle?
In the description :)
@@CarSceneKorea thank you for getting back to me.. however, the colour is not mentioned in the description on my screen. I had to scroll through all the comments and I finally found it.. It would have been nice if you had typed in the colour in your response rather than "in the description."
@@gloriavalvasori6155 I am terribly sorry the color of the vehicle shown in the video is Pebble Blue Pearl. I misread the comment.
@@CarSceneKorea Thank you!
Hi. Your videos are so detailed. I love it. Can you have detail video on HDA 2 features on highway and off the highway features ? I would really appreciate that
There's a timestamp about it here :)

What is the towing capacity of the hybrid? Will the U.S. get hybrid XRT?
3,500 pounds with 2.5T standard, 4,500 pounds with XRT trim. Couldn’t find numbers for hybrid.
Dziękuję za wspaniałą prezentację.
Dzięki za oglądanie!
My preferred colour. As soon as pre-orders opens I'll be ordering mine - top spec AWD HEV in this colour.
It is Pebble Blue Pearl(페블 블루 펄) with Obsidian Black interior :)
Hi do you know if the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is made in Korea or the USA?
Not sure 🤔
The ones sold in the US are sold in Alabama
Hybrids have 6spd auto at least 🥲
I'm wondering, I'm talking about the arrangement with captain's chairs, on a daily basis I need two seats in the second row and a rather larger trunk for the dog, but the hole between the seats irritates me very much - firstly, because anything that falls from the second row falls under the folded seats. third row while driving, secondly, anything loose, a shoe or a bottle from the trunk flies into the cabin. Isn't there something standard or optional that would cover this hole?
How much is this car (hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid?
Great video... do you know if the Hybrid will have a an off road model?
I wished they design the key Fob square-ish to match the car. I loved everything about the car, and the rear oversize hatch helped seal the deal for me.
Valid point! Design over practicality 🙌
2:10 they actoually could make the rear lights vertical, would look 100 x better
Korea also lefthand drive the Hyundai extended bonnet pickup/bakkie should be named Hyundai Arizona it is based on previous Hyundai Santa Fe .
Thanks for your video, please try to make a video with the 2024 Santa Fe parked with the 2024 Palisade
I actually have it, will be edited soon - hopefully.
Hi, Under the hood I noticed that the liquid for the cooling system of the hybrid system is not blue anymore and there is only one cooling tank not two like in the Tucson/Santa Fe 1.6 HEV 230HP.
It's been some time now since HMG changed it to pink, I know it's an upgrade, but can't specify off my head what the upgrades been made on those.
Great detailed videos. Can you please do a highway only mpg test at higher speed. Would love to know how efficient it is in long freeway commutes. Thanks
It is really close to what’s said on the paper, check description :) It was also done under cold weather so would be higher during warm times.
I completely don't care that the real lights are lower. I'm actually leaning towards the Limited over the calligraphy. I do prefer a bench, and it looks like the only thing you miss is an extra wireless charger and heads up display. I dont think we're getting the ergo motion seat in north america.
Sure does sound competitive 👍
I have the 2024 hybrid. We the car is turned off and locked the lights on the fingerprint scanner and the usb-c ports are illuminated. Is that normal or can I turn them off in the settings? Thx.
I believe that will go away after a few seconds. It might be tied together with the head light escort system.
Add to the basket :) Can't wait till it hits Europe.
Is the hybrid sacrificing the under-carriage spare tire for the battery? This is critical for me as I need a spare.
Gave you a reply on the other vid!
so how does the battery charge in the hybrid only while driving ? is there an option to charge it at home as well , also how is the power compared to the conventional engine ? thanks
That would be a PHEV you are referring to. This hybrid actually charges the battery on its own 100% automatic using the internal combustion engine.
@@CarSceneKorea and how is the power compared to the petrol version..
Does the Sport mode also affect the steering feel?
Nope, not to the N level at least.
Your videos are great. Thinking about getting the new 24 Santa Fe. Do you know what trim doesn’t come with a sunroof? I’m 6’5 and typically can’t fit in a car with one.
That ought to vary depending on the market, so please ask your local dealership :)
The SEL version doesn’t come with a moonroof.
Any chance Hyundai will make a PHEV variant?
They did already, will be introduced to selected markets. Korea never was one.
Will the 2024 New Santa Fe be offered in USA with a 5 Seat configuration?
I don't have info on that, but at least it comes in one 🥲
I would really like to know how the drive feels with at least four people and some luggage. Does the hybrid engine have enough power when it’s loaded up?
Looking forward to more reviews. Thanks!
That's coming!
You still need to charge hybrids after use or risk running on ICE only if battery is flat.
That never happens, the car does it all automatically. I wasn't even able to drain the battery below 50%
Thank you again for an informative video. 😊 Do you happen to know pricing in USA for the hybrid?
Direct conversion, will certainly be more than this:
38,880,000 to 46,210,000 KRW is approximately 32,830 to 39,000 USD.
Approximate exchange rate of 1,183 KRW to 1 USD.
Compared to gas, how is the acceleration to come up to speed such as 0 to 60 miles. The #s on paper seem weak and I am hoping in real life it is peppier than the #s indicate.
Late 7 seconds, ought to be faster for AWD. Didn't have the chance to measure this 🥲
@CarSceneKorea that is good to hear bc prior to this I was hearing estimates of 9.8secs which would not be good.
Never that slow, nope.
What is the update on mpg for the hybrid Santa Fe HTrac?
Specs for Santa Fe driven in the video:
2024 Hyundai All-New Santa Fe 1.6 Turbo AWD
235 PS, 37.4 kgf.m combined
- 180 PS engine 27.0 kgf.m
- 47.7 kW motor 265 Nm
13.0 km/L combined (30.6mpg)
- City: 13.3km/L
- Highway: 12.6km/L
Calligraphy trim, 6 seater configuration
Tell us also about the music / sound quality.
I don’t really go over audio in my review bc I don’t have much knowledge about them and good amount of bass is all I need :)
What about the price
Great review! I would love to see you review the xrt model.
Would love to, but XRT isn't available in Korea 🥲
Will the USA 2024 Santa Fe come in 5 Seat configuration? I have been talking to local Hyundai dealer and all indications from them is 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe will only be offered in 6 & 7 Seat configuration. Please advise??
Local dealership ought to have clearer and more realistic info on it. Sales and types do depend heavily on the market, especially Hyundai USA. The only answer I can give you is that it is available from Hyundai.
do you have the video for 2-3-2 seating arrangement?
There should be plenty on my channel. I cannot pinpoint one yet, but kindly follow the links in the pinned comment.
Does the hybrid have a camping mode where it will use the battery to run the climate control while the car is parked?
I couldn't find anything close to that, I cannot guarantee, but am pretty sure it doesn't'.
@@CarSceneKorea Thanks! Missed opportunity if they have the battery, especially since they're marketing it as outdoorsy
I will come back to this comment if I find anything about it, but I couldn't digging through Korean forums and such.
Does the hybrid come in Caligraphy model
Yep, this very Santa Fe Hybrid is one.
Great SUV! Will the U.S. version come in a 5 seat configuration as well -- two front seats, 3 seat second row bench? That would be ideal for me! I don't need a third row, it's a waste of space for my purposes; my current Dodge Durango has those, and I never use the third row.
Most likely, but will depend on Hyundai USA.
Thank you for your quick response! I hope they will... Also, thank you for your excellent and thorough reviews! @@CarSceneKorea
My pleasure, thanks for watching and dropping a comment :)
We in the US only get the 3 row models.
That's a shame! @@JT-fq2bl
What is the towing capacity of the hybrid vs the internal combustion engine? Thanks!
3,500 pounds with 2.5T standard, 4,500 pounds with XRT trim. Couldn’t find numbers for hybrid.
How do golf clubs fit with the 3rd row folded down? Can you fit 4 bags?
It fits transversely too without the drivers. I googled and found 5 bags fitting, 3 straight and 2 transversely without drivers.
When will the dealers have these to sell ?
It typically takes about six months to reach other parts of the globe 🥲
What are the interior color options for the calligraphy hybrid in the U.S.
It would be different from Korean ones, check the website or your local dealership please.
CSK...Thanks for all the videos. Hyundai, start working on rear lights 2025 Santa fe. Bring lights up to row of "H" Hyundai badge. No changes needed for front. You guys almost had a hit. Love the car, but not where the rear lights are situated.
Thanks for sharing!
Why does no reviewer mentioned anything about the spare wheel, is it a space saver tire?
It’s been a while Genesis, Hyundai and Kia for domestic Korean models stopped getting spare tires. The US spec does get a spare tire though.
Does this trim have the windshield HUD?
Yes, it does.
I assume you are referring to the fabric shade part? And that's automatic on your Tucson?!
Is the hybrid Plugged?
For selected markets, yes.
Those mileage numbers are very similar to current EPA numbers. I thought this was supposed to get better mileage than outgoing one?
We never got hybrid calligraphy previously in the US - was that available in Korea previously?
Yes, it was available in Korea. MPG could differ based on the measurement, since the MPG in description is based on Korean govt measurement.
Excellent video, very infromative as usual, thank you. May I asked what is your opinion when compared to the 2.5T Gasoline, same drive train (AWD) ,Caligraphy. Have you tested one yet ? Thanks.
Get the gasoline version , it’s safer on highway .
Thanks once again 👍
what is the model (package) within the hybird did you test on this video pls?
It is Calligraphy, fully loaded model, 6 seater. The trim name is different by markets.
What colour is it . Can you get it this colour in Australia 🇦🇺
Pebble Blue Pearl.
great video ... thanks for the info
Glad it was helpful!
What is the name of this color from Hyundai's offer ?
Pebble Blue Pearl.
Nice car except rear lights. I don’t agree that lights low means more rear storage. They could have raised the rear lighting to a normal position and changed nothing with rear hatch
Is that the Ecotronic Gray Pearl color?
Pebble Blue Pearl.
what color is this? Hampton Grey?
Pebble Blue Pearl.
Can’t wait to see what trim hybrid models they bring to USA I hear SEL limited caligraphy
@CarSceneKorea, can you please add some details to explain trim levels for Hybrid and how they are compared with non-hybrid trims? Do we miss any luxury or essential features if we opt for Hybrid model eg: whats the equivalent of Caligraphy in Hybrid mode?
You get all the goodies you could with other trims on hybrid. I did go over those on my last video, which its a bit backed up on editing priority atm.
Im curious what the differences for the US market will be. Cant wait for these to finally be released here.
Seems like it finally arrived a few days ago. I saw them on Hyundai USA channel.
@@CarSceneKorea yea I saw a few reviews here state side. Still can't configure one on the website tho. I'm so impatient 😂
any height difference in the 3rd row seat in the hybrid model compared to gas, due to the little hump for the battery placement?
Gas and hybrid, are they both DCT speed?
Thanks
Not sure down to decimals, but I couldn’t really notice the difference.
Gas gets 8spd wet DCT, hybrid gets 6spd auto. Could be different on regional markets.
Boot space wise , Santa Fe with third row down Vs Kia Carnival with all seats up or down
SF with third row down is far spacious than latter.
What color is this Santa Fe?
Pebble Blue Pearl.
Another set of questions: does HDA2 do a better job at steering than original? Any autonomous ability in future?
You can get pretty close to Tesla self-driving and actually better in some ways with a comma device. This car will likely be supported. It takes some tinkering but it will be much better than stock HDA2.
There isn't much difference in straight lines, but turns and corners, quite an upgrade. There often are times where HDA2 would clear a highway exit without losing it.
@@paulgemperlein626 comma device?
In which review you show spare tire in new Santa Fe?
There isn't one for domestic Korean market, but will be available for the NA market and a few selected ones.
Another way in looking at this is - imagine the rear trunk is opened. Step back about 20/30 feet from the rear of the car and what do you see? An almost square opening isn’t it? Well, please help me measure the vertical height of this “square”. Thanks.
Hope the latest video helps :)
