I am a 70-yr old FM, Stage 3 CKD, one (genetic)functional kidney, eGFR mid/lower 40’s. Ionated contrast left me with AKI, eGFR 28 and creatine sky high. All cleared in about 48 hours, much to my relief. I am not eager to repeat that experience.

So which contrast is used for a Urogram CT with contrast? I've had two done 12 months apart ordered by my family Dr. Afterwards I saw my Urologist who said no more Urograms unless he orders it.

My elderly mom of 78 has CKD with GFR in the 30s. Her nephrologist ordered MRIs with contrast because she has renal cysts and he wanted to make sure they were not cancerous. She's had it twice. How often should she have one done, as I think he wants to monitor the cysts.

They used Gadolinium -- a compound frequently given as a contrast agent prior to MRI’s and CT scans. It's actually a heavy metal that chelates minerals out of the body. It also stays in the kidneys. There is a process to gradually remove this gadolinium.

Doc, could you tell us: is there any relation between painful toothache with holes and kidney disease? Why (not)?

I thought[estimated] GFR below 60 was worrisome, and ideal should be above 100.

What he mean is if your GFR is normal or around 60 you can get contrast dye for CT scan safely
      Please watch the video again

I think he's against the dye. He also said above 40 mL is normal. My issue is that below 60 is not normal. Above 40 could be 41 or 42. That is not normal to me.

Can you please tell a bit more what happened. Because a Ct scan with a dye completely destroyed my life too, but every one is telling me it can’t be true.

Accept Jesus Christ as the only begotten Son of God and pray. Once you have accepted Jesus Christ there is no need to fear challenges in this life or even death. From my research a plant based diet with little sodium and little to no carbs or sugar will keep the body optimized. Use whole grain oats for breakfast and use green leafy vegetables with meat. Snack on fruit and yogurt for probiotics. Drink teas like red hibiscus, hawthorn, dandelion and chamomile. Trust in Jesus Christ the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS and preach His gospel everyday you are alive until you go to be with Him as a believer and servant.

He is talking about studies without any solid evidence of contrast safety.
Hence it is too much general.
BTW, this guy needs only to comment on such topics, provided he himself has gone through ckd
