I also have the onkyo 6050 and it's a great reciever. It has everything you talked about except the pre outs. Great reciever the onkyo 6050 is strictly sold only at Costco for $499 or if your lucky catch it on sale for $439. The 6050 is the excatly the same as the onkyo 6100 but is 90 watts a channel and the 6100 is 100 watts a channel. Highly recommend this reciever and the on screen set up menu is the best in the business. Very easy to set up fully explains every thing your doing with pics and verbiage.

I concur. The explanation of what all those numbers attached to AVR's is top drawer. A lot of those numbers have been a mystery to me for too long. This video has solved a lot of the questions I had around AVR's and I can now more easily make decisions on what I might want to purchase in the future.

My head is spinning from all the information. Then I watched how to use the DIRAC, and I got dizzier from the information overload. Maybe I will just stick to a nice 2 channel stereo setup. All I want is to listen to a good smooth jazz music, not be bombarded by all the techno babble. " A man has got to know his limitations "........Dirty Harry Callaghan.

I bought an Onkyo TX-NR6050 to replace my TRS-700 and ended up with the Yamaha being hooked back up. The Yamaha fills the sound out as the Onkyo remains flat no matter the adjustments made. I need an AVR that supports 4k120 10bit, which the Onkyo without a doubt supports and works, but having had the TRS-700 for a while I now know my preference. Having a complete Emotiva 7.1 system the difference between the two are night and day to me.

I have Emotiva speakers and the Denon S760H from Costco .. sounds good but not enough. Now i am tempted to upgrade to a Denon X6700 for the additional channels and preouts. but man, so much more expensive than the Costco Denon option. Anyway, sometimes having a sensitive ear/discerning tastes is a bad thing, lol.

Hello 👋 Guys. I'm in a dilemma between buying the Costco package:
    A) Kilpsch Bookshelf + subwoofer + onkyo TX-NR 6050 7.2 channel
    $800 +$200+$450= $1,450 Total.
    B) Kilpsch 5.1.4 + Onkyo TX-NR 7100 9.2 channel
    $400 right now in my Costco +$1,100 = $ 1,500
    C) Cheapest option, but loosing 2 unfired speakers.
    Kilpsch 5.1.4 and the Onkyo TX-NR 6050 7.2 channel
    $400+$450=$850.
I leave in an apartment and I don't think I could expand to real home theater system.
I think I can accommodate the tower speakers system in my living room, but there's a $650 between options ( A or B compared with C). I have seen your videos, and I think in one of them you mentioned that if you have only a 7.2 channel receiver, you won't sacrifice a lot if 2 of the height Atmos speakers would be disabled.
I'd appreciate any input because at any time the 5.0.2 or 5.1.4 would be out of stock from Costco, especially not having a 9.2 receiver available in the stores.
    Regards from Houston.

Thank you for a great video. I have a rather old setup. Denon avr 4308 with good B&W speakers. The reciever isn't up to date with video resolution, so I only use it for sound. The videofeeds goes straight to the screen. Have been superhappy for about 15 years now. My method of calibration is using the built in audyssey, repeated at all listening positions. Then I make small adjustments to the channel volumes. The equalizer settings is always spot on.
I can't see myself upgrading the system in the near future, but it's very interesting to see some new stuff, and to see that my knowledge is up to date.

    • @TwoGuyzTech
      @TwoGuyzTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Thank you for watching! If the 4308 does everything you want and your happy with it then there's definitely no reason to upgrade. I'm still using a 12 year old A/V processor in my theater and love the way it sounds. The only reason for me to upgrade would be to get Dolby Atmos which will happen soon.😀

I have a weird problem. I use a mac mini to watch everything. I have it hooked up to my Sony STR-DH590. There is only one problem i have with it. Whenever i play a movie or tv show i downloaded and try to play it on VLC the AV unit will shut down. I reset the unit as per the instructions to clear it, but it still did it. Now it wont happen when i am watching TH-cam or anything like that. Only shows being played on VLC. I also tried another program and it did it with that one as well.
Its kinda like maybe the power audibly is too much for the AV Unit to handle. Its the only thing i can think of. Im going to get a new heavy duty HDMI cable to see if that helps or not. Ive been doing this for years and never had this problem. My Onkyo receiver died and i used this Sony as a backup.

90 watts per channel is fine. I use 1 Behringer EPQ for a pc, and that is 40 watts per channel. Do not think you need 200 watt for reasonable volume. That said, some reserve if you can get it is fine.
The one thing I am not fond of (I'd say hate but that is a bit much) is 0 to very little flexibility in choosing channels. If I want fron height over overhead and set the rears to front wide instead of rears, I cannot do that.
Also very hard to find anything but a big box, while I kept my pc small (1.5U). There is the NR1711 but €899 for just pc sound and it still is big. I will see.

Is there anything you can tell us about the next level up receivers? I wouldn't mind spending a little more for that extra quality. Plus, if you're buying a receiver at say 100 watts with only 2 channels driven, doesn't that mean if you're powering 5 to 7 channels you're getting far far far less wattage per channel equating to a substandard system? You know what bothers me in this vid is you don't explain the wattage on the receivers that say 90 watts per channel which is untrue if you pay attention it says 2 channels driven that means if it's 90 watts per channels it's only 90watts x 2 =180 watts that's it so realistically its like 25 watts per channel so if it's 7 channels so 25 watts rms per channel that's it you should of mentioned in the video it shows in your example 2 channels driven not all channels driven

Hello, i have a Denon X2600H for a 5.1.2 system and i don't really like it. For music in 2.1 the receiver and my L/R KEF Q350 speakers performs OK but for movies in 5.1.2 the sound is not dynamic, muddy, not a good separation! Why is that, because of low wattage per channel? If i buy a better model with pre outs and i add a power amp for my front stage will the sound be better?

When you are dealing with Klipsch, just make sure you subtract ~7-8db sensitivity from their advertised rating. They are giving chamber ratings and not room ratings. Plus, when actually tested against other manufacturers, Klipsch consistently chooses selective sections of the frequency range to pull their ratings from. If Klipsch claims 96db sensitivity, you can assume that it will actually perform at around 89-90db. They should develop a FTC for sensitivity and speaker performance.

Thanks for watching! We'd say that all depends on your room, whether you want ATMOS or not, and what kind of speakers you're using, etc. But a general rule of thumb is if you have the space, more speakers are usually better. Hope this helps :)

@@exovitae I tend to agree that a 5.2.2 with height Atmos channels is the way to go for most rooms up to a medium size. A few room treatments can also be helpful especially if the room has some odd configurations as opposed to just a rectangular room.. The 2 subwoofers I find make quite a difference in reducing dead spots and filling out the room that with only one sub you sometimes get. The subs don't have to be as large when you have two of them if they are of a decent quality. I'm a big believer in some of the newer SVS subs. SVS customer support has a toll free number you can call for recommendations for which of their subs is best suited to any given room dimensions. Full disclosure,I have no connection whatsoever with SVS I just believe in their products.

I cannot stress enough the video barely covered the real problems with HDMI 2.1. The Yamaha reciever they link in the description does state "HDMI 2.1 with firmware update" but with all the faulty chips this will not caryy a full bandwitch of 48gbps. It will instead push half that at full run at 24gbps. So compressed chroma/luminence. Bottom line: You need to spend a grand to be future-proof with next-gen consoles for 120hz and HDMI/DV 4:4:4.
