    You can get those same sorta watches on Wish - they come is all sorta styles but their mostly all based off cheap MTK arm chips - meant to be clones of the DZ09 or genuinely go into the U8. From what I found it is possible to modify some versions of the the chips they run to run another smarthwatch (linux) OS over the top of the existing one (coined nucleus by MTK IIRC) - However as the bootstrap is not open source and almost all chips have pitiful storage - with the latest versions using proprietary compression by MTK to get the size even smaller.
    As far as I have found it is very difficult if not downright impossible to flash a linux kernal on these devices and most of what you would consider "modding" would just be customising binaries or writing apps for the godforsaken things, although again, you will not find much documentation for using their chips.
    Fun fact - a watch for 10 bucks on amazon 4 years ago was the same damn thing you hold today.
    P.S. - Great BT headphones: iWalk "Crazy Duo", got em for 50 total:
    Capacitive touch "buttons" and each bud can play independently so you can listen to one while the other charges - case It came with charges via 2 contact pins for each bud and has a segment display for the battery percent and a usb out to be used as a battery bank. Fits in coin pocket.

    Yes, back in the 50's Fisher was making quality products. Then someone bought them for the name only and started selling crap under the name. A good name brand that people had heard good things about so had a half a leg up on other junk devises. Most items were made by the same junk manufactures but sold at a slightly higher price point. Increase those margins on a clueless public. Sunbeam and others did the same.

      @@electronerd These things really aren't all that expensive to produce, not even the higher end ones, they just shove a bunch of other tech in them (and a better screen, screens are expensive) and that runs the price up. Plus with how old the tech is now I'm not surprised at all to see one this cheap. Then the software development and marketing of the devices really ramps up the cost. But the hardware itself? Pretty cheap to make.

      @@BenHeckHacks like i said in my other comment, this smartwatch might be a cheap solution for an elderly person who says they hate cell phones(I've worked with seniors for almost 17 years now, and I've had, and still have clients like this), just to have on them incase of emergency with speed dial numbers programed into it.

      @@CommodoreFan64 I think there's better watches for elderly people. This one is too small, has too fine of print, the interface sucks, and elements are too small to tap. • @mawamatakama5150
      @mawamatakama5150 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is not the charge controller, it's the power supply that you use. It needs an USB adapter that provides 500mA or less. Basically you need to charge it from an 2.0USB port from your computer.

    • @_DSch
      @_DSch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mawamatakama5150 The actual issue is not that it gets hot while charging its internal battary, the issue is that the dcdc boost part in that shitty chip gets really hot after some time while charging the earpieces.

    That startup chime on the watch is exactly the same one that a cheap "phone watch" from 2006 had, that I bought out of curiosity. It was bulky and ugly compared to this one and MUCH more expensive! It had a resistive touchscreen as well and a little stylus that you could store in a small compartment on the strap. I guess those things will never cease to exist :D

    Menards, for a few straight years from 2015 through at least 2017 sold a totally unbranded projector with built in DVD player on Black Friday for around $30, and I managed to buy one. It's cheaply built as expected, and the projection quality isn't that great. But, it's region free, can play MP4 files off a USB drive or SD card, and has a hidden feature... NES emulation. I was able to get a ROM of SMB to start, but the emulation was pretty bad and the particular projector that Menards sold that day covered up the two USB ports needed for game controllers.
