I have a 28 year old 026 and am replacing the filter and fuel line for the first time (the saw runs fine, it just seems like it is time to do this). It has that same short line that you pulled out of this 028. According to a bunch of arborist forums that I've checked, the J-shaped replacement line won't fit into the hole in the gas tank unless it is enlarged, which I don't want to try so I found the short OEM fuel line on E-bay. I'm trying to figure out how to put the filter on the end of the line after the line is installed in the tank, I guess it will have to be stretched quite a bit and I'm hoping that it doesn't tear.
The "S" shaped hose will fit without drilling out the hole: just put some 2 stroke oil on the tapered part of the hose and push it in place. A lot easier to remove/insert fuel line by removing carb first. And, yes, every non Super 028 I've seen came with the very short fuel line.

I didn’t want to stretch that out that much . The one I put in seemed to fit in place

The line being replaced was OEM. The replacement part is not. It is too long on the carb side and interferes with the throttle linkage.
Yes that is a original gas line
