Back in the 70s and 80s, before crack and everyone carried a gun, we used to hang out at night like this all the time. But the vibe back then was love, peace and unity. I feel so sorry for the generations of our society that will never know what that feels like.

Where did you grow up? The violent crime rate in most large US cities was insane in the 70s and 80s; e.g. NYC averaged 1,500-,2000+ homicides per year in that time period, compared to 438 in 2022.

I grew up in one of the "Soviet satellite countries" in the 1980's, but even under communism we didn't have hoods and social breakdown like THIS. We were poor and oppressed, but we had our dignity. The streets were clean, people respected each other, and it was perfectly safe to take a walk downtown at 2AM if you wanted to. This BS is on another level.

What you're seeing in these US ghettos is more poverty of the mind than a true lack of opportunity; well, that and where people end up due to desperation from their addiction(s). I'm from a mixed black and white family and there's a ton of drama over who remained in the hood versus those who "got out", and it's hard on those who choose to get out because they're looked at as sell outs, especially if they don't "rescue" their other family members.

When I worked housing police in Louisville Kentucky this was everyday. We used to joke that day watch had it easy because the natives don't wake up till 4 in the afternoon. I worked late watch so this is what I dealt with daily. As a Caucasian I was respected though. The unit I worked on was respected because we did not go in and try to play the role. They knew where we stood as Police officers and we knew where they stood as citizens. We gave each other mutual respect. They knew if they screwed up we were going to bring the world down on them. I think that's what is lacking in today's law enforcement community. There's no mutual respect on either side. There's some bad apples on both sides and in turn here we are today.

Native Atlantan here -- not all of this is the hood. The beginning looks like Edgewood Avenue and those are the people who weren't gentrified out. The part on Joe Lowery is close to The Bluff (open air H market). The part on Hollywood Road is near a hood club. The pawn shop next to Family Dollar is in the area where Micro$oft *WAS* going to come gentrify, but that plan is suspended indefinitely (that's Bankhead Highway). Then there is a short part by West End (where the concrete beams for the train are); not the best part of town but they are trying to gentrify that. That Atlanta Wings *IS* in the hood (Ashby/Lowery and MLK); that is a hot area and has always been a hot area. The area of James P. Brawley and Joe Lowery has always been the hood (that area used to be Simpson Road). Something happened one day and many of the houses on James P. Brawley burnt down and suddenly, they are available for developers to buy... near the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and a black college. Gee, what a coincidence.
What's funny and unbelievable is those locations are not in the poorest district in Atlanta. The poorest district actually has two high 6-/low-7 digit housing priced communities, access to 3 large grocery stores, access to 2 freeways and is 15-20 minutes from America's busiest airport, *AND* at least 2 mayors live there.
EDIT: I read the comments, and not surprisingly, the Destroyers of Everything -- white people -- are talking crap. Why do you all sh 00 t up schools and delete kids? Why do you try to overthrow the government then talk about minority crime? Why does the world have to hold its breath white two white people -- Putin and Zelenskyy -- duke it out and threaten the planet with nuclear war? Why is there NO PLACE ON EARTH where white people can go and say "I created peace here where there was none."? All you all create is destruction.
