This is the most refreshing self-improvement content I've ever seen. Everything on social media is about becoming a millionaire bodybuilder, but the majority of men could vastly improve their lives just by becoming a non-obese thousandaire. Getting past this low bar is the first step to shooting higher.
ienjoyapples I like your comment and I agree. Best thing about James's message is that you can do the work and reap the rewards; it's all within your reach.
Chest 42- waist 30, more income than the average stated, more than than $1,000 set aside- NO pharma even no OTC. Healthy, great labs, living MY life . But, I'm 72. Great channel and wonderful goal. I applaud you.
@njabd71 thanks, I've seen athletic most of my life. Still no dentures and a full head of brown and gray hair. I stopped drugs when I left Vietnam and stopped alcohol at 27 years. Health is deliberate and a choice. Good 👍 luck.
James, of all the videos I have watch of you, this is one of the best. It is practical that includes goals that are not out of reach for most men. Thankfully, as a young man I ventured out, I travelled at twenty one, from Ireland and lived in Belgium, travelled a lot and my live has been full of adventure. Many men enviously realize that I'm different. I found that many men don't have the inward strength to be who they want or should be. I have two sons and I have raised them to be their own men. Now at fifty six, I can honestly say that being the guy that dresses more upscale (without paying a hight price), wheres the nice colognes, knows how to cook wonderful meals, listens to classical jazz, is well read is something that I am very comfortable with. I thank God that he made me who I am and I'm very comfortable with that. -- You are influencing men and thank you for your courage to do so. - Have a blessed Christmas.
I’m 64 so lived my life. 34 inch waist reasonable body mass index and can still do 25 push ups Saved well over £1000 I’m not on any medication I’ve lived a great life and broken with convention. I lived on a sail boat for 11 years. Travelled all over the world and learned French. Great advice James, I’m glad I tick a few of the boxes.
Another inspiring video, James. I agree with you that being better than the average man is a great benchmark for most men who are hoping to or indeed are gentlemen. I am under 40 inch waist, but I am trying to get my stomach down. I have access to short-term funds but have not travelled out of the UK since 2017. I'm building my wardrobe and am looking for online work, too. I continue to convalesce and detox and eat healthily. I have not had any takeaway food for four years, and once abstained from coffee for a whole year. I continue to watch your videos and love your content. Thank you.
suggestions for reducing belly size and weight: Eat ONLY when you have true appetite, ignore times for eating when its "merely time to eat". I tried that, after some adjusting to it, I feel a lot healthier, sporty-er, more astute, and I became trim and fit and still have all the energy I need. Also, keep yourself busy with projects that make you forget food you don't really need, and don't snack. When you occasionally do intermittent-fasting, going from breakfast until dinner without food in-between, that also helps a lot.
I have or do all these things. Though I do not wear a suit every day. After living a life accumulating things only to see junk pile up. I want to travel. I am tired of seeing the world thru a computer screen. Last summer I climbed a massive mountain in Wyoming, and it was fun. I want to do that more often.
You never fail to deliver, my friend. Thank you for the invaluable advice-it’s always practical and on point. Also, I must commend you on your impeccable suit game; it’s truly top tier these days, sir. Keep it up!
I can do two at once. Gain a waist below 40 inches, and then live a healthier life style. I already have been taking my vitamins regularly for a long time, and I had my blood checked a few months ago to see if I was lacking anything. Now I need to change my eating habits, and exercise regularly.
I am under 40" waist, but I want to get it lower. I agree with Dave Ramsey in most of his teaching. After you get $1k, then pay off the credit card debts, save up to 3-6 months' worth in the bank for emergencies. I need to work out more. It isn't a new year's resolution, a now resolution. Thanks for the video. This is the advice I wish I heard when I was in my 20s.
Early in my career, I received good advice to include clothing costs in my monthly budget. I didn’t purchase clothing every month, especially on my income, but I did buy things quarterly to keep improving my wardrobe. It helped me to be mindful to allocate money for career necessities.
I signed up. Always looking to be better, also in the past I had a brush with dressing well etc. I actually enjoyed it, and now as I am older I’d enjoy going back to it but in a much more involved way. Finances I have a handle on just climbing the ladder at this point, goal is to work less make more so I can free up time for family. ATM my looks are of a straight blue collar truck driver, jeans, boots and tshirts and or button ups. Much more while on the job is a risk, my professional career being over the road and it can often destroy clothing quick. Off time though is wide open, got a lot in the works just waiting and working while it coalesces.
One thing I should do is drop a few pounds. I'm 5'7" and about 183. I could easily lose if I would moderate my eating. It's not so much the meals, but the snacking, especially late night before sleeping.
I completely agree with this video & every point you have made Moving away from people is advice my good friend took so she can focus on her modelling dream at age 20 I am currently only one in our group that encourages her and trying financially help her get started I told her to have best chances at achieving your dream just don’t tell your family or girlfriends what are you working-on
Hello James, I started to train when i was young (16-18) practice boxing, but right now at 30 yo, im doing nothing, i started again, and want a better psyque, right now on 60kg at 5`11 and want to end up in 75 kg. Great video about begin a better man.
interesting to think what the reality is for most men who watch your video and actually try to make changes. My experience is seeing men who are hardwired to be irresponsible and lazy who rarely venture far from their next bad decision. It's as if they sabotage their own success with immediate gratification and short term thinking.
Check to all, except passport. I always said I will go to England, dont know when don't how. Your video reminds me to take a first step, so I will begin by getting a passport, thanks Great video.
Join one of the armed forces reserve, if you want to travel One weekend per month, and two week training camp per year. Chat to someone who has served in the reserve, and listen to the Countries they have traveled to for free.
I've done all these things and I still feel way below average. Good advice, but I see how many other people seem to be doing well in life and what I've done just doesn't seem like enough. Sometimes I feel like a total loser!
You are *not* a loser. You are NOT a loser. You are *NOT* a loser. Sometimes, our feelings are not an accurate gauge of our reality. Consider talking to someone about this feeling?
To every man who's at this channel taking notes, believe me as a woman, a knowledgeable gentleman will ALWAYS attract more women than a gym finance bro!
I’m a pharmacist and see firsthand how people rely on medication to fix completely avoidable conditions. I’d happily retire tomorrow if people would just take care of themselves.
So, are you saying problems only arise due to people not taking care of their problems, and health problems don't arise many times due to things which are out of control?
In Italy, most of young men live with their parents until they get married, I'm moving from my actual house when the works in the new apartment will be completed
I have been trying to get James to do a John Wick vid for awhile,as I think the character's style is interesting, and Keanu Reeves seems to have a kindness that is admirable. But James explained that those kinds of vids, often don't do well.
You don't need to outrun the bear, you only need to outrun at least one other person. Sure, you always want to improve, but don't hold yourself to impossible standards. Seek to continuously improve incrementally.
50% of Americans don't have $1,000?! I'm 38 and British and have well over £500,000 in savings, and that's with our crazy high taxes and property prices 😮
50% seems really unlikely? Like how on earth would people be able to survive with basically not even a week or two's wages in savings? I'm not exactly rich and earn a very average wage but I am also from the UK and have about ten year's worth of annual salary in savings as well as owning a house mortgage-free. Are Americans just very badly paid?
I'm from England and am under 30 and I have about £28k in savings. Not sure what the UK average is but surely 50% of Americans can't have less than $1k? That means literally half the population would have virtually nothing saved!? Unless it is literally 50% of Americans rather than 50% of the _adult_ population but seems a weird way to take an average on savings if so?
Personal trainer/nutritionist aside, NEVER, ever ever EVER, focus on the numbers on the scale. Focus on your image in the mirror, and the fit of your current clothes. Muscle always weighs more than fat, and skinny muscle is very much a thing! BTW I'm 225 and FIT. I do not deny reality, nor should you!
a gentleman doesnt have to compare himself to others nor should it be his intention to be better than other humans. a gentleman does pu the cause above himself and his ego
To amplify the $1K in savings and being true to yourself maxims I would add that living well beneath my means for decades has afforded me both options and control. When you have funds to fall back on you can both take risks that serve your interest and escape mundane choices in which others are trapped. Control your finances rather than being controlled by them. I retired at 45, yet am set for life 19 years later. Living well is the best revenge.
How? @Gent.Z Tax deferred (401k) + moderately aggressive diversified funds + time = Easy Money. Start as early as you can, max out your automatic weekly contributions then ignore it except for annual rebalancing to maintain your selected percentages in each type of fund. Funds with low expenses are critical. Don't try to beat the market. No one can. Then let the magic of time and compounding work their miracles.
What about if you create content that is for both, gay and straight, men; most of your viewers are gay; as I, myself, my husband and our friends, peers, colleagues, business partners, relatives and acquaintances; all of these gay men watch your great channel
Europe is cheap now in comparison to the US. Groceries are triple the price in the US. For example, I live in Ireland and a bag of organic oats is €1, in Florida it's $11. Insane prices there.

Applying this wise advice to my daily routine thank you
Good advice. Mostly achievable goals for most men. Moderation in everything
I’m 64 so lived my life.
34 inch waist reasonable body mass index and can still do 25 push ups
Saved well over £1000
I’m not on any medication
I’ve lived a great life and broken with convention. I lived on a sail boat for 11 years.
Travelled all over the world and learned French.
Great advice James, I’m glad I tick a few of the boxes.
How was it living on a sail boat? Its on my do list too
I loved it but uk winters were hard. Much easier in a warmer Climate

this is quite a good video, very interesting, putting everything into detail, love the pinstripe suit by the way, very dashing👍👍

The mountains and forests in western Wyoming are beautiful. Been a long time since I passed thru there. Glad to hear you conquering the Rockies.
The first thing to go with age is your memory, I can't remember what the second was.
You never fail to deliver, my friend. Thank you for the invaluable advice-it’s always practical and on point. Also, I must commend you on your impeccable suit game; it’s truly top tier these days, sir. Keep it up!

I’ve travelled to a few developing countries for my job, certainly gives perspective on life and how different people can be.

Valuable advice, especially traveling. Travel is the best teacher.
Once you make those improvements, you will see the outcomes it brings among peers outside your circle.
Didn't expect it at first, but these are all actually no BS advice!

Wow, I figured average was a low bar, but I didn't realize how low...
Im 26 and by these metrics I think I’m doing well but I smoke weed and drink a bit more than I’d like.
The drinking has to go for me and travel more
i am SO EXCITED to DEMOLISH my mediocrity !!!! 😍

I switched to special occasions then after a year I quit all together.

Gold bless.

Waist size also depends on your height, dude
General rule of thumb: your waist size should not exceed your inseam. Yes? No?
The left side of the thumbnail.

How to >BE< better than the average man, yea? ................................................
What is that thumbnail pic man 😭

@maddyg3208 Of course, but 1000% more expensive??? And I said that was an example, the overall prices there on most stuff is crazy.
Hi James! I think you meant to title the video "How to (Be) Better Than The Average Man". Love your stuff!
dave ramsey - no!!! 😞
I don’t think a person that has AHDH should stop the drugs tbh
Mr. Bond, that suit is perfect.
Aside from that, waist size will be limited to pelvic-bone frame.
30" would fit me when I was 18, but now it won't fit even my bare skeleton.
an immediate thing I can do (m15) is save 1k.
Don’t forget the comma in one thousand, $1,000. A Gentleman is literate and punctual - - he aspires to be hopelessly impeccable in his field(s).
In some places in Europe, Germany for example, the comma means the decimal point.
I have $1 saved up. (Don't tell anyone, they may track me down and scam it from me.)
Best compliment in my life came from my late wife's father: "You are a gentleman".
If I shared their family (our) legacy, you would need an air-sickness bag.
How do you better a man? 😂
BE better by remembering BE
The title of this video makes no sense. How to "better" than the average man? "Better is not a verb.
I think I’ll set myself a race to get an actual waist measurement of 34”, rather than just fit into the trousers, against a goal of putting by a store of £1,000 for emergencies.
So it’s back to the KETO diet. I expect to be back to 13 st 7 lb ie 98 lbs by next Christmas. I’ve got a few expenses going out this year, so it will be a challenge.
Starting just right for a New Year’s personal challenge.
As I persevere with those 2, I’ll try to build in the healthy side of things re :- Diet; Exercise and Sleep.
As for my preferred life style, I am aware as to how I need to get away from You Tube and do more.
As a single 70/year old, life is tending to slow me down. I don’t like it. I think it’s the time to fight back.
I’ll take today’s date as the starter. 14th Dec ‘24.
This time next year Rodney…….
Thank you for the key to kick start the idling engine.
Good luck, Dave.
The USA is a big country what if every state had its own language and customs and you needed a passport to travel into the other "countries" (states) that's why most Americans don't have a passport OMHO and only have one language
if you are in the top 50% of men, then you are still 30% below that women consider to be "average"
You got |THAT right ! 😎
You can’t just “decide to be better than average” you need the right genetics.
Completely untrue
Ubermensch!!!
Übermensch ALT154 = Ü

Like you mentioned most other videos out there set unrealistically high standards where everything is focused on the top 1%, but if you are in the top 10-25% of man in meaningful metrics like health, wealth and relationships, etc. you are doing very well overall, and it’s still somewhat achievable or rather something to strive for.
E.g., with waist size where you said
