    Thank you, Becka for making this video!
    This topic has been on my mind for quite some time and I hope you can give me some feedback on what “I” had come up with, based on what I had learned from you before and others and from my little research.
    I came up with these:
    1- Lettering is the umbrella term which is, as you also said, drawing the letters.
    2- Calligraphy (meaning beautiful writing) is one branch of lettering “if we consider writing a specific way of drawing,” meaning it has some basic rules based on the style. This I think can help differentiate between mono-line calligraphy and cursive writing too (both are beautiful writing but with different rules). And I believe the most important rule for calligraphy is being divided into basic strokes (then we can say mono-line calligraphy is calligraphy too although there are no line weights).
    3- Typography/fonts are the standardized way of writing (that is, each letter is the same in any repetition). I think if you have the muscle memory and skills you can write a font with hand too, am I right? (Like master penmanship people)
    4- And all of these could be done either by hand or digitally.
    Does this make sense to you too?

      I agree with you for the most part, except for the fonts. I think that typography and fonts require a machine to execute it, not a human drawing it. If I practice my copperplate enough to get the same results over and over, it's still not a font to me, you know? Other than that, I completely second what you've said :)

      @TheHappyEverCrafter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Much of this is correct but like the other commenter said, fonts/type are digital. No matter how much practice you have. That being said, you CAN turn your calligraphy or lettering INTO a font!

      @@TheHappyEverCrafter Thanks for your feedback! I think my confusion for the fonts come from my first hand lettering practice book I bought on Amazon that had Sans Serif and Serif practices. I believe those are fonts that the learner would practice by hand. Now I think even if you write a font by hand it'll be called hand lettering not that font.

    thanks for your video it was very good. can i ask, if you use just by hand lettering or calligraphy, how design or write your book? it is my biiiiiig question. because if you write all the book by hand, it doesnt like each others!
    thanks

    Uhm sorry but your using a brush pen for calligraphy, generally the use of a fountain pen and a totally different letter style is actually considered calligraphy. Brush lettering and hand lettering have the same concept of various artistic script and the like typography, with a brush pen or actual brush for brush lettering, and lettering. or pen for hand lettering. Typography is just any digital made or digitized handwriting. That's how I was taught atleast. Almost no one uses calligraphy anymore, it's very distinctive in its style. Not like your brush lettering.

      She literally said those are her definitions and didn't you read the disclaimer 0:38

      Awesome! :)

    • @unboundbytiffany
      @unboundbytiffany ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But I heard her use calligraphy loosely and interchangeably quite frequently whereas it's not traditionally the same as brush lettering nor would be used with a brush. Hence my comment. And all I was saying to help educate others further ;) sorry I should have put a disclaimer on my comment too I guess 😅
