Thank you for letting us in. What a fabulous apartment, and the drum tech you've got is amazing. If your neighbors only knew the legend next door to them. 🤘🔥
Great Vid. Nice visual. The way I can see your fingers bounce the sticks with the window in background. I'm trying to learn that technique. 1st time I saw one of your Vids. Excellent. ThankYou.
I went and bought the L80s after seeing you play them. I'm new to jazz and the clear stick sound is great for novice players. It lets you focus on keeping a steady ride and a strong chick on the hats. Additionally, I'm using Sensory Percussion triggers so my practice kit can also be an electric kit. Thanks again for the inspiration!
Great shape your in Steve. Still trying to get down your Journey fills after all these years. I have over 370 songs I have covered on youtube. Seperate ways gets me everytime..hehe..🎵🥁🥁🎵🎵🥁🥁
Hi Steve, Thanks so much for sharing insight to what and how you practice. Funny, I was doing the same thing to Journey’s Escape album. Trying my hardest to emulate that drummer and try to reproduce that same incredible feel and groove that he plays. 😉 I guess we all learn from the masters! You are always an inspiration. Take care and stay safe.
Nice switches to left side riding - inspiring stuff. The stick flips....I’m almost embarrassed to ask, but I’ve always enjoyed that-especially the way you do it in your hi hat solo Jo Jones tribute. Any chance you wouldn’t mind dedicating a video or two to stick tricks/throws/flips? Thanks for your consideration.
Great stuff Steve, love your feel, grove and creativity (as always)! Would love to see you play along (in tribute) to some Chick Corea Light as a Feather album (i.e. Spain, Captain Marvel)?!
I did two things differently. First, I picked up an L80 20" ride. It feels closer to my real rides. I also got a BlackHole pad for my snare. there isn't as much of that trampoline thing happening on that so I'm at least able to get decent feel out of the snare and ride. I use the 18" crash/ride on the left side and the 14" on the right. At least I can do my thing downstairs while my wife is on the phone or doing a Zoom meeting and the neighbors can't hear me. There are some interesting hacks here on YT for getting a tad more tone from the Silentstroke heads. I was a bit worried about the springy-ness of the bass drum head but I'm using an 18 and a strip of tape on the beater contact point and some experimental "tuning" gets me a fairly accurate feel there too. It's a great practice tool. I'm dying to get back to gigging on real drums again soon though.
Steve Smith it wouldn't bother me much. Because Drum's🥁 are the Best, it's a shame I'm not your Neighbour. Because I'm beginning to think you have bad Neighbours that don't like drums or 💭something🤔 Peace ☮️ Brother✌️...
Even if neighbors heard him play well and were bothered by the noise and would like to come down to knock the door, once they find out that it's Steve Smith they would no longer ask him to stop playing, but rather to play louder 🙂
Thanks for sharing Steve your so humble and considerate despite being a drumming legend !
Amazing that steve is both a jazz and and a rock drum legend at the same time
Steve Smith is now a youtuber?! Hell yeah YT thank you for bringing me here!
Thank you for letting us in. What a fabulous apartment, and the drum tech you've got is amazing.

LOVE this but I have to be honest I was seriously drooling over that Vital Information shirt! I STILL love that album!!!
Great video, thanks for sharing . Nice kit! Fab apartment! Cheers
Incredible drummer! One of my favorites! Could listen him playing all day.
Great Vid. Nice visual. The way I can see your fingers bounce the sticks with the window in background.
I'm trying to learn that technique.
1st time I saw one of your Vids. Excellent. ThankYou.
Thank you Steve for sharing. I wish this type of information would have been available to my when I was younger.
Bravo! Such finesse!

Steve Smith has a land line telephone. He is a phenomenal god-level drummer but I’m more impressed that he has a land line.
My drummer definitely needs this kit !
Grand Master ...!
Yeah, swinging for sure, cymbals sound fantastic.
Great playing! I like the transitions from matched to traditional grip and the triplets on bass drum.
More videos like this with the silent kit, please!!!

That was Kick-Ass !
Thank you for playing so many of the songs that inspire me as an aspiring drummer
Excellent!!
Ohh that's cool.
I made the switch to full electronic but this seems to be a great alternative
Jimmy Cobb is the king of swing! Highly underrated drummer.
That’s real cool!
Love it!🙌🏼😎
I do this in my apartment! Wow, celebrities really are just like us.
what a great person!

Nice work

Buenìsimo !!!
The best 🥁
Vital Information T-Shirts!!!
amazing as always! cheers steve have a nice day!
Very kool!
Nice!
Amazing! 🥁
If I was a neighbour I'd be saying crank that up haha!
what a badass
I can't see how anybody could ever be bothered by YOU "swinging out on the drums"! Very considerate, though, Steve.
Steve, I take your kick pad all around the world. It’s the best AND the lightest. What the mod you did here? Just wrap it in towels?? Thanks!
Good video Steve
0:27 Nice to see Stick Control on the music stand.
Nice.
Steve Smith it wouldn't bother me much. Because Drum's🥁 are the Best, it's a shame I'm not your Neighbour. Because I'm beginning to think you have bad Neighbours that don't like drums or 💭something🤔 Peace ☮️ Brother✌️...
What’s the drum throne brand/make? I like the gear I might have to upgrade to this when I downsize to an apartment
Cool as a cucumber.
Even if neighbors heard him play well and were bothered by the noise and would like to come down to knock the door, once they find out that it's Steve Smith they would no longer ask him to stop playing, but rather to play louder 🙂
If I was his neighbor, I'd tell him to buy an acoustic drum kit :)
Nice video
A nice Masonic building!
Nice Crib
Maravilhoso 🥁🏆
Need one for my house... tho being a metalish drummer I don’t think the silent heads will matter much 😕
I see you and Jojo share a snare 😊
You are a badass
Are the top and bottoms both silent stroke?
Folks, can you help? I can see the perforated cymbals & high hats, but what makes the drum heads quieter?
Mesh construction lets a lot of the air escape from the drum, reducing the amount of reverberation from the bottom resonant head.
😍😍😍😍
He'd probably sound good on a box of Cheerios too... Nice.
why did this video end ?!!
What is that strange thing hanging on the wall starting @1:10
Would Love to be your Neibor!!!
Thanks for this, Steve Smith. If you can, could you next time get from an angle that we can see your feet "dancing"?
Nice drumming. Should consider turning pro
I'd love to be your neighbor
Nice!
