Thanks Dan, I did consider the Kiev 60 but like you say, its a tank (2kg!!!), my Yashica is only 1kg. I really do fancy a decent interchangeable medium format camera one of these days but their prices are a little out of reach for me at the moment.
The Seagull is probably going to need a CLA before I use it again.....there is another 2 or so videos coming up featuring these cameras. Thanks for the kind comment and glad you enjoyed it.
I've had about 4 of those Balda cameras off ebay - built into two working cameras now, one non-rangefinder and one Mess. The shutters always need cleaning out with solvent to un-gum the slow speed mechanism. The models with Enna lenses were the ones to look out for (Ennagon excellent cheaper triplet lens, Ennit more expensive Tessar-style).
Obviously I would have liked to get a triplet lens cameras or even a Tessar/Tessar Style but as always these days, collectors who probably have no intention of using the camerass have snapped up these cameras sending the prices soaring....the Balda in this video only cost me £25 so was worth a punt and I think the results came out pretty well for a first time use. Thanks for watching and the comment.
@@ChrisEdgecombePhoto Even the cheapest of the Balda Baldix models had a triplet lens and they're all good. Think I paid around 30ish for each of mine a couple of years ago, the bellows seem to be much sturdier than say the Zeiss folders (though those tend to be a couple of decades older). The ratchet wind on is really nice and the loading/takeup mech is solid. Worth learning how to clean and service one of these.
Hi Chris another interesting video and comparison between the two cameras they both seem to take good images, you can see the difference between the film and digital images, keep up with the interesting and informative videos.
Thanks Robert, I'll do some research but I am tempted to send the Seagull in particular off for a CLA by someone who knows what they are doing as will become apparent in a future video.
Nice vlog Chris. Was the Balda lens sharper, viewing the vlog on my phone it did seem to be crisper. It seemed to have a little more contrast in the images too.
Thanks Andrew. I would say from my two copies, the Balda is slightly sharper. Another couple of videos are coming up featuring these two cameras again as I struggled with compositions at this location. As you will from these other videos, there are some reasons why the Seagull isn't potentially reaching its full potential.
As a general rule I always plan to be on location 1 hr before sunrise. Had too many times when the colour has been at its best before the actual sun comes up.
Can't believe I did this video back in May. Anyway, I've added some chapters as it was a little long.
Nice photos Chris, Lovely location's. Always enjoyable 👍👍. . . . Must drag out my kiev 60 sometime, that's a real tank of a camera.

I love folder cameras. I have a Mamiya folder, sadly I don't use it enough because I think it's CLA and the light seals replaced. Good shots!

The Balda is brilliant
It is indeed, thanks.
I randomly got recommended this video and I subscribed now
Weird, but thanks 😁
Watching this on the phone but really enjoyed the video.
Makes me think about diging out my old folder, think it's another Seagull but not sure.
Thank you, despite liking the features of the Seagull and even after a CLA, I'm not wholly convinced with it's IQ.

Thanks David.
Hi Chris. I've had stuck timers. Usually a little bit of lighter fluid will cure that. Worth a try.

Been really enjoying your channel and videos - great stuff :)
Thank you 👍

Good spot!
@@ChrisEdgecombePhoto 🙏Fine video besides the tiny error 👍
@Martin_Siegel thanks.

The aim was to shoot B&W so I wasn't overly bothered as it wasn't the main focus of the video but it's always a bonus 😀, cheers Huw.
