"Why isn't there a difficulty option" coming from someone who's never played Pokémon before really speaks volumes considering Gamefreak's insistence on dumbing down the games to specifically cater to non/casual Pokémon fans. The fact that losing to the first gym leader in Black and White presented you with a challenge that increased your determination to keep playing is so telling of how out of touch Gamefreak is it's hilarious. I won't go into all of it, but in general it's very interesting that you brought up a lot of criticisms fans themselves have of the games.
I agree. I kinda wanna try this with my friends who only know pokemon via pokemon go. I'd be interested to hear their opinions on the mainline games. 🤔
What the heck are you talking about? First off, the first gym in gen 5 is mad easy, first type is normal and second one that trumps starter. The person in this video used level 3/2 pokemon (from the first route) against pokemon 10 levels higher while he skipped trainer battles and catching stronger pokemon. Of course you would lose, as long as you don't rely on starter, you can win the first gym easily (especially since you can get a type to beat the first gyms pokemon easily). And the people here only played literally the first few hours of each game. Not really a good way to see it's full difficulty nor scope of the games (since it's rare the first boss of any game is hard). But most of all, the games have always been easy for the most part. And honestly, difficulty doesn't completely determine if a game is better for me or determines if the developers are out of touch. There are MANY easy games out there and some easier than pokemon but they still are heavily beloved. Unless you're purposely trying to convince yourself or others that a decrease in difficulty is hindering game, I don't think you're gonna have a problem. No, it really doesn't. The comment is coming from an adult who is more interested in games like GTA (based on the channel's content) and is not the target demographic for this game. @@senatorarmstronger475 I'll bite to keep papa nintendo off their back. Ninty can be cruel when it comes to stuff like that, which im 100% sure is why they said it and there was humor behind it. But that seems like more effort than necessary. Not that it matters, but the only reason I push back is that the video is sharp as hell with true whites and blacks and stretched with no border (cardinal sin imo, but to each their own). Considering the Super gameboy for snes, pokemon stadium for n64 and the transfer pak, and gameboy player for gamecube all produce a standard definition video signal maxed at 480i (thats being generous for the other 2 options, and we are assuming he has the $300 gamecube component cables or a knock off hdmi solution), 4:3 with some sort of border which takes away from the image quality of the base game even more (and would have to be cropped out in post production to achieve what we just saw), and the above sources applying the gameboy "color" pallet of everything having combos of red and green for red versions "color" gimmick pre gameboy color games (for the most part, I'm unfamiliar with the super gameboy snes solution, very familiar with the latter 2), vs black and white defaults that most emulators run, I would say its possible, but a statistically low outcome. If they are using a clone console like a retron 5, that just dumps the rom from the original cart, and you are just emulating software from the original source on different hardware anyways. if they are using a 3ds with a modded capture card (please let anyone in the universe know if they have one of these for sale, like not even kidding I want one so bad) the version on those games is just a rom running on a gameboy emulator nintendo created in-house anyways. To channel Rick and Morty for the latter 2 options, that's just emulation with extra steps. There would have to be some things going on behind the scenes that would be entirely inconvenient when compared to having a 16mb file on a program that can run on any pc, found easily on the internet in a matter of minutes, and easily captured at any resolution you choose. Granted, your upressing a very low base quality, but thats why you see such pixel perfect video, when putting your snes to your capture card could only do that in the sweetest of dreams. We are talking some sort of modded hardware witchcraft doing something that a pc from 1998 could handle with ease. why go through the effort for the game thats, by far, the easiest to emulate, and the one that has the most merit in doing so, seeing as the original cartridges are beginning to either fail or lose their saves, and was released on a console with no backlight, and the only convenient way to send said video to screen would be with cords that would lower/darken the image and not produce those true whites and blacks simply due to the limitations of their time? I’d go as far to say there’s no way, at the very least the 3 original Nintendo produced options to bring this game to television or capture card would produce an image in the state it’s in. But again, I'll bite, if nintendo is reading, they didnt emulate any of the games, please leave them alone.
If only they could do Reaction videos to some rom hacks/modifications! It would make a lot more interesting scenarios: AshGray version & Clover version would both produce vastly different reactions from Todd & Coach. AshGray is about re-writting the story from anime, Clover is all about the jokes of the internet!

@@JoshSweetvale Earlier games yes. But ever since gen 5 the options you get for the early game pretty much eliminate any difficulty differences for starter choice in the early games of the more modern pokemon games.
@Raviz, Cherry Mae it started as a two fold idea. 1) They couldn't make all the Pokemon fit on the small memory of the first cartridges. Having the game hold extra data for more Pokemon locations just wasn't an option. It takes less space to just have their battle data. 2) they were collectors and remembered how fun it was to trade with friends and wanted to simulate that same feeling in Pokemon so made two versions to incentivize trading. By now I'm pretty sure it's just because it's a Pokemon tradition and it increases sales.
@@tuckinatorinator787 pokemon locations are nothing more than a lookup table. The stuff that actually takes up a lot of space are sprites, animations etc. The maximum Cartridge size of the gameboy was 8 MB, and Pokemon Red/Blue fits on a 1MB cartridge. Even if they didn't upgrade cartridge size, a single entry in the lookup table probably is a byte big (this is pure speculation, but since it comfortably fits in a byte and those are nice and easy to program with, it's probably what they used. Even if they didn't upgrade cartridge size they could probably fit about a hundred more pokemon locations in there, and if they moved to a bigger cartridge they could add in over 7000 more locations. In other words, don't talk about stuff you don't know or understand. The second point was a nice gimmick back in the 90s, but nowadays in the age of the internet it's just a scam
@@tuckinatorinator787 all the Pokemon DO fit on the cartridge. They can be traded in and fought against. It's just Encounter tables and that basically takes zero space
This sentence hurt my soul. I feel like newer players just don't have the knowledge to just things like that. "Lol do you expect them to animate 800+ walking animations?". They... litteraly already did that.
it def started out as a trade gimmick but has evolved into a money grab. I highly doubt red and blue was a money grab. To be fair, pokemon company has always tried to use their games to promote unity and health in community. Like red and blue promoting trading (meeting and making new friends). even things like pokemon go and pokemon sleep. Any mobile pokemon game wouldve been popular they did not need to include excercise and sleep to do it
I believe at first their intentions were really to get people to trade Pokemon but after first gen they understood people would buy both versions and they made more money that way so they took advantage of that ahah
I would say there intentions were always money which wasn't bad they basically almost went bankrupt with the first game. Honestly I think it was "Hey people are still buying 3 versions of the game . ." "Should we just make one" "Well there willing so...." and that's how capitalism works honestly if people early on didn't buy both this wouldn't have become a trend.
I'd be really interested in seeing Trip continue through one of these files to the end of the story, the fact they were playing the first half hour of gameplay in each really skews the experience of what the games are meant to be like, as no matter which generation you're playing that part of the game is still keeping you on the tutorial railroads before things really start to open up
The world of Pokemon is like How to Train Your Dragon, it's more practical and humane to tame some, battle with each other for practice, and go about your day as normal than to hunt them to extinction for your own safety.
I feel like we missed out by not having him play gen 3 somewhere in there. From how you're introduced to the region, to how you get your starter, to being the only game to give you a father figure, I feel like it would've been a refreshing enough introduction to maybe pique and keep his curiosity. Though with that being said, and not to milk this idea, but I would absolutely love to see you guys play through the entirety of a single Pokémon game together. I want to see Trip's reaction to even more Pokémon he's never seen before. And when the game's finished, please critique it. Rip the game to shreds for all I care, just give credit where it's due. It would make and interesting viewpoint to see someone's opinion who's never played a full game complete one, in my honest opinion.
I mean Black and White in particular DOES have a really good story, but when you only get as far as the first gym you haven't really touched on it yet.
This is the best thing I’ve seen on the Internet in awhile. I genuinely lol’d so many times watching this video. “Can I sell, like, skins?” was probably my favorite part. I died with the comparison to Red Dead Redemption. Hope to see some more funny Pokémon content like this at some point!

When they finally make VR pokemon, I’m going to live in it. I wish Pokémon was real or I could’ve been born in a alternate world where they are.

I was pleased to see the Water type being picked two out of three times, as well as Charmander NOT being picked.

"Why is there no difficulty setting"
Good question. Not even GF can come up with a good answer and they implemented it (somewhat) in Black and white 2
And the execution was just poor from both how you unlock it and when you play it because of the new XP system Gen 5 games use...
Or multiple saves
Hoping for a new game plus so we can keep poke one yet have harder challenges
The difficulty setting is the starter.
@@JoshSweetvale Earlier games yes. But ever since gen 5 the options you get for the early game pretty much eliminate any difficulty differences for starter choice in the early games of the more modern pokemon games.

He really loves Scratch. Wait until he discover Slash.
1:15 Because it IS a scam, Trip.
Welcome to the gaming industry
It was a genious concept either way
@Raviz, Cherry Mae it started as a two fold idea.
Well yeah, otherwise the dual versions thing would have disappeared as soon as they introduced the GTS
It's just Encounter tables and that basically takes zero space

ever since gen 5
Exactly, they *had* every Pokémon up to Gen 7, and then jumped to _more powerful_ hardware.

This sentence hurt my soul.
I feel like newer players just don't have the knowledge to just things like that.
"Lol do you expect them to animate 800+ walking animations?".

it def started out as a trade gimmick but has evolved into a money grab. I highly doubt red and blue was a money grab. To be fair, pokemon company has always tried to use their games to promote unity and health in community. Like red and blue promoting trading (meeting and making new friends). even things like pokemon go and pokemon sleep. Any mobile pokemon game wouldve been popular they did not need to include excercise and sleep to do it
1:20
It's simple Trip it seems like a scam because it is
I believe at first their intentions were really to get people to trade Pokemon but after first gen they understood people would buy both versions and they made more money that way so they took advantage of that ahah
@@Zartak00 exactly
Since Gen 4 introduced Wi-Fi to the series and you could connect wirelessly to others it should have been the Gen to stop 2 different versions.
I would say there intentions were always money which wasn't bad they basically almost went bankrupt with the first game.
Honestly I think it was
"Hey people are still buying 3 versions of the game . ."
