The dance is impressive, but to I would rather it have been more historically correct in tune with the actual style of dance for that society in that period. Although based on a novel, guess I am just a stick in the mud that prefers historical accuracy to flash. It may as well have been a cartoon.
No cartoon could ever have given us the complexity of movement and expression of feeling. I think it is legitimate to remind modern viewers that those were times when dance was the only legitimate physical contact between the sexes outside marriage. At the time the novel is set there were still people alive who remembered how scandalous the waltz had seemed at the start of the 19th century. Do we really know how they waltzed in 1870s Russia? I don’t know the novel, but in those days dance was never trivial, not in life and certainly not in fiction. Edit: Some, not all, of the arm movements are historically accurate.
Does your nose get the same yucky scrunch when a man marries a woman who's 23 years younger? His wife is a celebrated film director, so it must terribly boring for him after 13 years of marriage to still be with such an intelligent, fascinating woman. Poor dear.
Agree, this is a very poor representation of Russian aristocracy. The women are not graceful enough, sorry. You should see a Russian version of this film… or Sophie Marceau as Anna Karenina…
I've read the novel twice, and it's powerful, dissecting the workings of Russian society at the time with finesse and human psychology with daring. This film is so disappointing. Nothing works: the actress isn't right for the role of Anne Karenine, her lover is a joke. It's one of the worst adaptations.
I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed this film! Thank you for including the train scene, as it’s a small but important part for context.
Every woman there in beautiful pastels and Anna in her black gown..
@@Marketsolo and Kitty in her pure white…Wonder what that means? 😉
Lovely foreshadowing!
I loved this movie. The first time I saw it I didn't understand the manner of the film and paid it no mind. Fast forward to now, 2025, it's brilliant.
I don't see why Aaron can't be the next James Bond, that man is fine.
Agree. I think Aaron would make a great James Bond
Agree
Completely agree! He's hot as hell!
Very very fine !
Because Henry Cavill is better!
WOW, simply WOW
What a beautiful dance, so graceful who choreographed it ?
Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui
It is gorgeous, everyone looks beautiful. I love the stylized way everyone freezes when Vronsky and Anna dance.
For some reason the book she was reading was written in Hungarian. It was about a "miracle painting", an oil painting.
Has Alicia Vikander have a history of ballet? She moves like one
Yes, she does indeed.
Yes Alicia,is a trained dancer.
That was my impression too.
Well, good to see Mr. Darcy got better at Dancing...
😅 aptly noted 💯!!!!
What is the name of the movie? I wamt to watch the entire thing.
Anna Karenina. ATJ made an excellent Vronsky. Great film.

I agree! What’s up with stranger arm movements? Bizarre
Oh man!
What movie?
Anna karenina
I prefere the movie with Sophie Marceau !
Anna Karenina
It looks like they’re wrestling, not dancing. And what’s with the toy train?
It’s an Art Thing … never mind.
I can't look at Aaron without thinking of his creepy wife and my nose gets all scrunchy and hurts my face.

or.. all you know about Russia is Putin
I have never worn black but I am thinking about it. My mother never wore black, my daughter never wears black and my granddaughter hates it.
I love black I wear it all the time 😊
Her acting is terrible, although the dance is beautifully done.
Your opinion. I think she's amazing, and I'm extremely picky as someone who studies film.

Agreed.
This movie is a joke.
I don't remember anything about this movie 🥱
